Pretty awesome.

The Sunshine Mill has a long, colorful history. The Sunshine Mill has milled wheat on this property for more than 130 years, and was the first building in The Dalles to have electricity, powered by a Thomas Edison Motor which can still be seen in The Mill. It is also the only designated skyscraper in The Columbia River Gorge.

The Sunshine Biscuit Company once owned this property and the wheat milled here was used to make everyone's favorite cracker, the Cheez-It!

They will be converting the silos into a hotel. I'm hearing that a ferry from Portland to The Dalles is in the works.

PS: The Copa Di Vino is an awesome idea! They just signed contracts with Madison Square Garden and The Rose Bowl.

I expected to open this thread and see this

The city of The Dalles (really, a rather backwards and redneck community) was going to tear down the facility - silos, and all - to the tune of around $2mil. Prior to doing that, (fortunately) they made a last-ditch effort to sell it.

Fortunately, the Martin family stepped up, purchased the mill, and has now "re-purposed" it into, hopefully, a successful business venture.

When I think of this concept (re-purposing a bit of history into a present-day business venture), I think of what the McMenamin brothers have successfully been accomplishe.

My uncles a legend in The Dalles.

I spent a couple summers there and there is nothing to do but eat a lot of cherries and shit a lot. Oh, and go get shaved ice.

It's going to be amazingly popular. Wish I would have thought of it...

Yes and no. There have been '187' bottles around for years from E and J Gallo (who I worked for for 3 years) and Glen Ellen. What they have lacked is quality of wine in those offerings. I hope it works out for the Oregonians! I'll try to find one this week at a store and give it a shot. It's odd that someone would compliment the merlot in a review and diss the cab, which is what I've read, but maybe they don't know wine. A Columbia Cab is delicious. A merlot is a merlot, and tastes great with Petite Sirloin or Round Steak. ;)

I hear ya. Nonetheless, it's a pretty cool concept...

The Dalles is a small dusty pile of roadside trash in the gorge. It has 2 temperatures, stifling hot and bitter cold. The wind tears at your skin all winter long.

Their official bird is the housefly, and it will go home with you and haunt your car for weeks. If I won a free vacation to The Dalles I'd give it to my worst enemy.
