CHRISTINA KIM TAKES LEAD AT LPGA VOLVIK CHAMPIONSHIP WITH OPENING ROUND 64
On Thursday, patience paid off for Christina Kim, who took the lead on day one of the inaugural LPGA Volvik Championship. Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan is a relatively unknown venue for players, but Kim seemed to figured it out quickly, opening with an eight-under par, 64 to finish the day one-stroke shy of the course record. Kim leads Ariya Jutanugarn in solo second at seven-under par.
ARIYA JUTANUGARN MAINTAINS LEAD AT LPGA VOLVIK CHAMPIONSHIP
After a roller coaster day in Ann Arbor, Ariya Jutanugarn managed to maintain her lead at the LPGA Volvik Championship.
Firm and fast conditions greeted players on Saturday at Travis Pointe Country in what was a dramatic change from the softer conditions players enjoyed on Thursday and Friday which allowed players to go low. Only three players who started the day in the top-10 were under-par on Saturday
Ariya Jutanugarn's strength and skill helped her become the first player to win three straight LPGA Tour events in three years.
The 20-year-old Jutanugarn closed with a 5-under 67 for a five-stroke victory Sunday in the Volvik Championship. She's the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win three consecutive tournaments and the first ever to make her first three career victories consecutive.
