Vonleh - is he becoming a solid player?

He proved himself in tonight's game 3 loss. On the other hand Evan (Too Much $) Turner absolutely SUCKED.

He's not too much more athletic than a young Kurt Thomas. Very similar game, but I don't think he's as good as Thomas yet, the Knick version. This is his ceiling.

A few things are clear IMO:

*Vonleh isn't a starter
*You re-do that draft and Vonleh is a mid-first pick.

I actually thought Vonleh was really good this game. His ability to switch on to guards is crazy. Steph tried to take it at him a few times, failed, and then started passing after the switch. His real issue is he clearly lacks confidence on the offensive end. If he wants to be a starter in this league, he can't be afraid of the open 15 footer.

His first two games were stinkers though.

Crabbe and Harkless much worse. Turner has actually been decent this series imo. He's effort defensively is consistent and he's at least not afraid to shoot (can't say the same about harkless and crabbe)

Imo he's a clone of Kurt Thomas.

Kurt Thomas much of his career would mid range you to death. I don't see that as much with Noah, its a possibility he could develop that. Most Noah's buckets lately have been off energy and cutting to the bucket. Its kinda weird, because Noah showed a lot of skill and touch in college. It seems to be a confidence issue.

He played really well. I just wish he would believe in himself in more. It's so obvious he's afraid to make mistakes. The only time he doesn't really have to think and can just go (rebounding) he shines. Just have to remember he's only 21. At least he's progressing unlike he who will not be named.

That's going to be his game - p&p from mid-range with a few garbage putbacks sprinkled in.

In college he was a legit inside/out big. He wasn't afraid to take the big shot. He was also much bigger than most bigs in the country - 6'9" 250 lbs, at 17/18 years old. Both his game and his physical profile seems to have plateaued there at Indiana.

Since the 2013 draft when looking at prospects I put intangibles/cerebral-ness over anything. There was isn't a close second to that. The one thing that Vonleh doesn't have is a decent cerebral feel for the game. That's an intangible thst you can't teach.

I do think he'll be a very good backup PF/C while getting near starter minutes.

His high school turnovers caused their momentum to steam roll u.s

Vonleh can start on this team, but we would need to upgrade our SF position if he does. I love a lot of what he brings, defence, rebounds, but he needs another big offseason to develop a number of areas of his game.

We need talent upgrade at every position, especially PF

Ummmm.....

I don't really know what to say to this...

Troll? Or maybe you didn't mean it literally? Perhaps you are omitting the obvious talent we have at the 1.2 & 5 as you feel that goes without saying?

Thanks... I was about to say alot more. lol.

I agree. PLus Crabbe and Turner are the larger contracts we need to move... and Leonard. Aminu/Vonleh will be fine with a healthy Nurk and Davis I think(Davis might need to go and an upgrade at backup C), and thier contracts are MUCH more friendly. Harkless is still young and I think can be our wing stopper, but needs to come off the bench and we need a stud at the three. We make that happen and we are REALLY close to competing with the best because this process will provide another year of growth for all these young guys to gel together.
I would like to see us try t target Justin Jackson as our potential future three and let him and Hark duke it out for the starting spot. Use the other two picks to shed the contracts of Crabbe/Leonard(whoever we can, and then look for a better backup C.

I have no complaints about Vonleh last night...he was a great defender on Curry, Green, everybody...Turner and Chief also....defense doesn't get enough respect...as to shooting....we didn't run plays for anybody really besides Dame CJ and Chief....if you don't touch the ball..you don't put it in the basket. I think we defended the Warriors about as good as you can defend them in a loss...Mo and Turner had a rough night trying to make layups...

I really think Vonleh is a great fit for our team either as a starting or reserve PF. There may be room for upgrading several positions on the team, but I truly believe Vonleh is a keeper.

At 21 I'd say he's going to be part of our rotation for a long time....I think he'll start and when he can just play PF he'll shine next to Nurk....this series he's playing center and it's not his position.

Lineup versatility will work to his benefit as long as he's willing to play solid defense at the 4/5 positions.

I think he will work as our D Green style small ball center lineup too. But that is something we shouldn't do often because we are too small in other positions. Compare GSW smal ball lineup to ours. Vonleh may be bigger than Green but that's about it. Everyone else on our team still has a size disadvantage, so that only works if guys like Hark, Crabbe, Aminu, Turner are all hitting shots. Small ball only works if shooters are making shots. We don't have enough consistent shooters to play small ball in my opinion now, so that's why Vonleh didn't look good at the 5, but add another great shooter or two at the 3/4, and he would be much better I think.

I liked what I saw of Vonleh last night. He looked like an NBA player, and looks like he's going to get better given more PT.

He's no replacement for Nurk, though, and that cost us.

I just hope we don't end up losing him down the road because of our bad contracts, and see him become an all star elsewhere

Agreed. I'd also like to see our team add a defensive player in the backcourt as a key reserve for Dame and CJ. Having a key defensive player (perhaps in the mold of Patrick Beverley) would go a long way towards improving our perimeter defense. It would also add another dimension towards our lineup versatility.

Yeah, I used to think Turner would be that guy, but its obvious he cant play great D and provide a solid leadership role as a backup PG.
Someone like Wes Mathews off the bench? I also wasn't fond of him coming back at first, but contract for contract for Turner or Crabbe? Might be something to consider. ESPECIALLY if we can get them to take Meyers.

Vonleh hasn't got paid the big bucks yet

I'd seriously talk to the Grizz about taking on Meyers contract ...he's played his best ball against Memphis and with Gasol, he could take Zbo's spot..they need 3 pt shooting about as bad as any team in the league

This and we give one or two picks draft pick or two might answer most of our problems no?

then we just need to shed Ezeli and Aminu so we can resign Nurk. Give those guys up for future picks to teams with cap space.

We get our 3 and D guy to back up CJ and Dame.
We get a bigger PF to back up Vonleh. Or they can compete for the start.
We get rid of a couple bigger contracts.

This move would give Dallas a guy they might think can learn from Dirk, in Meyers, and an expensive ball handler in Turner, but they get a couple of picks to open up their options.

Would it take all three picks? Not sure I wold do it if it cost that, but I might, if other options didn't show up.
