LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 2010 Season End (March - May 2010) - Duration of internship will be based on performance and/or business need.
HOURS PER WEEK: 15
FOR COLLEGE/GRADUATE SCHOOL CREDIT ONLY - Non-paid, instructor approval required. Other employee benefits; relocation expenses will not be covered.
POSITION CLOSES: February 26, 2010
PURPOSE: The trailblazers.com Sports Reporter will be responsible for developing unique multimedia content for the Portland Trail Blazers in an online capacity.
Learning Objectives: The student will have the opportunity to explore, observe, and participate in a variety of departmental activities including:
* Gaining practice and experience in writing AP style sports stories under deadline
* Becoming proficient in the writing and editing of online articles/previews/recaps
* Learning to interview players, management and staff for online features
* Gaining practice in reporting by attending a certain number of games and practices
* Creating multimedia web content by utilizing audio, video and still pictures
* Learning to integrate writing, photos, audio and video into a singular web-based feature
* Researching new ways to provide web content to fanbase
* Receive training in digital photography and editing, basic html and blogging
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
* Must be currently enrolled in a college, earning credits for a Bachelor’s degree or Graduate school with high preference in the area(s) of Journalism and English
* Minimum GPA: 3.0
* Must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar)
Skills and Abilities:
* Must be able to work on Mac and PC platforms
* Must be able to provide writing samples
* Must possess an understanding of AP style writing
* Able to meet deadlines
* Excellent organizational skills and attentive to detail
* Proactive problem solver
* Creativity a must
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
* Must be a quick learner and enjoy a fast paced environment
* Able to work effectively independently, with a team and with clients
