What are the taxes?
4th generation in this here neighborhood. TONS of friends and family, great restaurants, breweries, art galleries and shops within a few blocks of us. Great school district. Walking distance to both sets of grandparents. No freeway driving whatsoever. I damn sure know I could get a damn mansion out in the suburbs, but that's just not our style. Can't do strip malls. No BS here homie.
We moved last year from montavilla over to South tabor and had the same thing. We can go out to happy valley for what we're paying and get a pretty nice house, just a personal preference thing though. I've never liked the feeling of neighborhoods like that, subdivision type spots.
We pay 0.86% but have great government services including a fire department that has already saved my life. They got here in less than ten minutes and gave me a life saving IV. Also, out police department is second to none, I won't even get into our other great services. People are different here. You dont see garbage on the roadside. You've got a lake and a major river near by as well as one of the most beautiful scenic areas in Tryon Creek state park where my grandmother once caught a 3 lb. steelhead in a knee deep pond in the creek. They have a few parks all of which are beautiful. We've had deer grazing in our yard and we sometimes have to avoid them when driving somewhere in the early morning or in the evening just after sunset. We have tremendous schools and in the five years that I've lived here there has been no crime at all in our neighborhood. Perhaps best of all, no barking dogs anywhere to be heard. No vandalism. People drive more carefully. On the negative side is higher taxes nearly twice that rate. You gets what you pays for.
I like your neighborhood a lot. Just like I like my neighborhood (Overlook). I could get down with some sort of huge lot out of town, I guess, but I love the city, love the east side (love the forests on the west side).
Thing is, I’d rather live in the inner city and be able to walk to things. It’s a real neighborhood vibe. I don’t like strip malls, just can’t do it. Where the bank looks like the Panda Express that looks like the dog groomers that looks like the dry cleaners. With a big parking lot in front. May not be even be something people even think of, but I don’t want to be surrounded by thousands of cookie cutter houses. To each his own. I like the character AND diversity of our 100 year old houses and people in my hood.

I live a block off the Alameda ridge with views of the entire city bro. And this is exactly whats wrong. Nobody is questioning if you guys have good food, it’s how its served. In a damn parking lot instead of an old house. I love the charm of our hood. Like I said to each his own. And I have kids, you don’t yet. Since you grew up out there, maybe you won’t. But there is something about these shops and neighborhood vibe. It feels like a tight knit neighborhood, not a freeway exit
And for somebody like yourself that likes hip restaurants and shops.... I’d think you’d dig my area. That and we are about 20 blks from Alberta st
But that’s just it son, we don’t have bums and tents in our area. Don’t understand why people are factoring that in. Obviously I see that downtown and in other areas, but I don’t live there.
