War Enthusiasts

[NTC]

Got any war enthusiasts here? I've always been intrigued by the subject, but recentley I've started taking more of an interest in it, having gotten Call Of Duty 3 on Playstation 3 and I'm currently watching the "Band Of Brothers" series (which is very very good I might add).

I've been reading up about World War 2 on Wikipedia, its just such an interesting subject.

We studied it in Year 11 history.

WW2 was quite interesting because of how Hitler rose to power.

Love Band of Brothers, absolutely fantastic mini-series. You know the producers are making a series based on the Pacific theater of the war, It's due out in 2009. I'm stoked for it.

I love studying WWI and up, the wars before that (Revolutionary, Civil) I can't get into. I find them extremely boring.

Learning about the US Civil War back in school was boring as hell, but when you learn more about it from enthusiasts it is far more exciting then WWII. I met this one guy in France who is an enthusiast of the US Civil War and he had so much stuff from it. Boots, clothing, weapons, surgical tools, and all other sorts of authentic stuff from that War he's been collecting. Crazy that most of the people who ultimately died from that War was on account of infections and disease. That guy told me at least 80% more then what the school ever did.

I've experienced very similar experiences. Living in Virginia for three years, there were Civil War buffs everywhere. I don't even remember learning about it in school, everything I know comes from people in Virginia. I don't know, I still found it boring.

I do have some flags, bullets, clothing, and some other things from the Civil War, though.

I know what you mean because I've met enthusiasts here too, but this guy just really made it interesting. Can't help to explain more since there is no way of you actually being able to talk to him. I'm sure you'd agree afterward.

When I first met him, which was at an exhibition in France (more on that in a sec), I was like, "Oh please, not Civil War fanatics here too!" Then when I seen the stuff he had and he had so much to say it was really interesting. The guy had thousands of pages of pictures and other stuff.

About that exhibition, it was great. They had all these interesting people there that had things from old cars from everywhere in the world to model train cities. Yeah, not sets or little towns, I mean massive cities. Anyway, enough about that. Don't want to hijack the thread.

It's about the Civil war, I don't think it's hijacking?

That does sound interesting, if I ever get the chance to catch an exhibit like that, I for sure will.

I enjoy reading about the politics surrounding war.

I like reading about the technology developed during the time of war and the various strategies they use in battle. What I cannot stand are people who glorify war and look to fighting as the first option.

war is depressing, it results in thousands of deaths, it creates more wars through martyrs and leaves people without a home and without food and water. anything that tries to glorify such a horrific thing, i try to stay away from, im not saying that others cant have fun playing these games, but i just cant go near them.

i still find it interesting to read up on what ww2 was all about and looking up people like hitler in wikipedia is very intersting, did you know that hitler might have been 1/4 jewish?
