It's not about being scared.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

- Sun Tzu
We aren't the enemy. They want us scared so they can pick and choose any enemy they want and profit the most.

So Russia could theoretically nuke us so fast we wouldn't know what his us at first? So what? We'd still have subs and silos to launch a counter attack eventually.

Wake me up when Putin can kill us all without Russia suffering as well.

We'll catch up to them if we aren't already way way ahead...which we probably are.

Americans cheered when we took out ubl this guy has been responsible for many American lives over the years. War lord that was planning to attack more Americans.
I’m also glad we sent Marines in to protect our embassy. Something that should have been done in Benghazi’s.
I’m not a trump supporter at all and I have a son in the region but I favor tracking down terrorist.
There was no time to get any military aid to the Ambassador when he was killed in Benghazi. Before that his security detail said he shouldn't go to Benghazi and when he did go he refused any additional military help. During the attack the NATO commanding general and the commanding general of the U.S. in Africa all said that once the conflict began there was no time to get aid to the Ambassador. This was echoed by the CIA, the State Department and other U.S. military generals.
(OBL) not (UBL).
Read what acting director of the CIA, Michael Morell, had to say about this. I've posted it at least three times in here.

Let's take a complete overview of this situation.

1. Iran started it with the attack against our embassy in Iraq.

2. The guy we just killed was an evil piece of shit.

3. Trump does not read briefings or listen to experts.

4. Trump has a very short attention span.

5. We closed all diplomatic channels when we pulled out of the Iranian Nuclear Deal and imposed sanctions.

6. We as a nation are in a very difficult position with questionable leadership guiding us.
Gotta agree with every point except the first one. It started before the attack on our embassy. The attack was just another in a long series of criminal acts.

Come on all of you big strong men
Uncle Sam needs your help again
he's got himself in a terrible jam
way down yonder in old Iran so
put down your books and pick up a gun we're
gonna have a whole lotta fun
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is old Iran
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die
Come on wall street don't be slow
why man this war is a go-go
there's plenty good money to be made by
supplying the army with the tools of its trade
let's hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
they drop it on the Revolutionary Guard
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is old Iran
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die
Come on generals, let's move fast
your big chance has come at last
now you can go out and get those 'heads
cos the only good Shia is the one that's dead and
you know that peace can only be won when we've
blown 'em all to kingdom come
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is old Iran
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die
Come on mothers throughout the land
pack your boys off to old Iran
come on fathers don't hesitate
send your sons off before it's too late
and you can be the first ones on your block
to have your boy come home in a box
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is old Iran
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die

Saw him perform that song at The Crystal Ballroom I think 67.

WTF, doesn't he need Congressional approval before doing this?

He just started a freaking war.

Get him out of office already.

How much do you want to bet this was purely political for Uncle Donald? Drop a bunch of bombs, claim this is for "their freedom" and then restore his place as the world's policeman.

Yup...@Natebishop3 said essentially same thing in the post # 2 of this thread.

I imagine the rules are different if the target is a high-ranking government official, but I could be wrong.

That could be a point, but he was on the US list of known terrorists, as was bin Laden. Obama's decision to take bin Laden out involved actively committing US forces and equipment to operate within Pakistani territory without Pakistan's approval. At least in this instance, I believe the US has authorization for military actions in Iraq.

I think that the Dems are pissed because they were not briefed and some Reps were.

Understandable. I would say that current tensions between the White House and Dems in Congress have trust at an all time low.

I think the issue is not about whether the US had authorization to act in the specific location, so much as whether the action against the specific individual might reasonably be considered an act of war. An operation against OBL really couldn't, whereas this certainly can.

I remember singing that song early in the morning on a VA bus as a few of us Vietnam vets were headed to the hospital. I haven't felt a bond so close to a group of men in decades. One of those men fell hitting his head at home. They took him to the hospital where he died from brain swelling while he was in the ICU. That broke my heart and I cried.

Sorry about your buddy!
I was conflicted big time about how our service members were treated during that time.
I’ve always and still do support our men and women who serv!

I get the last part, but I think had Pakistan wanted to, they could have claimed that unauthorized military actions by a foreign power within their borders constituted an act of war.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. On one hand, the fact that Trump is a wacko Commander in Chief of the armed forces and has the power to push a button that could get us all killed, scares the shit out of me....but on the other hand, when a POTUS gets intel that would enable us to take out a terrorist leader, it must sometimes be done stealthily and very quickly.

We all know who he meant. Your first guess is almost certainly right.

Trump? Is he really advocating for someone to put a bullet in Trump? Assuming that is who Calvin Natt was referring too.

I hope he wasn't.

We need some clarification here.

You know what? Even my hippie friends treated me nice. The only time I got shit was once in a PCC writing class and again right in here in the Off Topic Forum. Someone in here once called me a baby killer. It was so absurd that I didn't even feel offended. I felt like that person had a serious problem that had nothing to do with me.
I too have always supported our men and women in uniform. They do their jobs protecting me and mine while we sleep safe and sound in our beds at night regardless of their politics Left or Right. This is another reason I chose to go, Had I chosen to flee some other average guy would have had to take my place and maybe not even gotten to go home after they completed their tour. I had to go, like it or not.

While we're on it, I knew so great guys who chose not to go. I had one friend who was all the way through Officers' Candidate School with just the etiquette part to go when he realized that he was a conscientious objector. I've never respected anyone more. What we choose to do has to come from the heart and not because of the fear of the consequences.

Of course it helps to not be stupid. I volunteered to be door gunner on a helicopter. I said I was young, did not say I was smart.

Are there women in Iran? Seems every take I see on TV only shows men. Are women so suppressed in Iran they are not allowed to mingle with the men?
We had a gal piloting the B2 that flew over the Rose Bowl. I don't understand how people can support regimes that treat ladies like they have zero rights. Maybe Rose should move to Tehran?

That's a BINGO.
