Watch a man break the sound barrier for the first time

So, if they can't fix his face visor heater and it's unsafe for him to jump, how does he get back down safely?

That was pretty cool to watch, and very nicely done. Awesome photography.

CNN broke away and did not show it live "in case something went wrong".????

WTF kind of way is that to run a "news" station? They lost any and all credibility with me by that one retarded and puzzling decision.

...the "LIVE" youtube feed was also on a 15 minute delay for the same reason :dunno:

Stands and claps for Felix Baumgartner!

Balls to the fucking wall! Just to be traveling 800+ MPH with no vehicle... MAJOR PROPS.

Anyone know why he pulled his shoot 10 seconds before breaking the longest free fall record? Did he just miscalculate the time or was there another reason for him pulling it early? I still can't get over the fact that someone in 1960 had a longer free fall. I'm assuming that guy started a lot lower (obviously since this was record), so he must have released his shoot at a really low altitude.

Anyways, this was really exciting. I didn't realize that the youtube feed was on a 15 minute delay. During his free fall the video cut away from him to mission control for about 10 seconds, but it didn't seem like they knew they were on camera. For those 10 seconds I thought something may have gone horribly wrong.

Yeah that was very cool to watch 'live'. At one point I was worried when he was in a spin but he got in under control. Makes me jumping from 12,000 look like riding a ferris wheel. Mach 1.24 is crazy.

if he was torn apart limb from limb and had his entrails devoured by the evil thetans living in our substrata, i doubt the lizard illuminati would want us sheeple to see that

His comment on what it was like to be moving at that velocity was interesting, though -- without a stationary frame of reference, he had no way to "sense" that he was moving that fast!

Baumgartner said traveling faster than sound is "hard to describe because you don't feel it." The pressurized suit prevented him from feeling the rushing air or even the loud noise he made when breaking the sound barrier.
With no reference points, "you don't know how fast you travel," he said.

The spinning part would have been freaky though, no doubt.

An excellent point, I hadn't thought of that.

Not only the sound barrier, but also the speed of light! :MARIS61:

A) Why move from Discovery to CNN during the jump? Discovery kept on him the entire time, as did the internet feed. Seems like Maris made a dumb move just to prove some weird point.

B) I was prepared for any end result, as were my wife and kids watching it live.

What's dumb about having both the TV on cnn while watching the live feed on redbull.com? :dunno:

PapaG, you're like a pit bull. Attack anything that moves, without reason.

From your bomb shelter, no doubt.

Awesome. Awesome, indeed.

You weren't the poster who moved from FoxNews to CNN during the descent? I can't keep up with you crazies anymore.
