Watford signed; DSJ waived!

Just out of curiosity, if Watford were to continue to improve in the next few months (as a 2-way contract player) would we have had his rights this summer? or would he have been a free agent? I am wondering if they wanted to make sure he was locked up before that happened.

I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on some G-League dudes, tbh.

For example, Wenyen Gabriel is ballin down there, and I really liked him.
I say we "kick tires" on the guys we have rec'd in trades like more minutes for Hughes and Keon who is hopefully almost healthy

Can the Blazers pick DSJ back up in the summer? Happy for Watford and the Blazers.

we can do both. I've long maintained Olshey's reluctance to do anything with the GLeague was a massive missed opportunity.

Neil never seemed to like to have depth. It's funny because we're talking about Wenyen, and the whole reason why Wenyen was able to play with us a couple years ago was BECAUSE Neil wouldn't go out and sign any other bigs. The guy made some great moves, but he also was just dumb as a box of rocks when it came to other things. I'll never understand it. I guess it can always be attributed to ego and hubris.

im referring to him repeatedly dismissing having a GLeague affiliate (i believe we are still one of the only pro teams without a GL farm team). It's not only a good way to identify potential rotational talent for the roster but also for coaches or as a way for players recovering from injury to work out kinks, etc etc.

Sure but I attribute to that depth as well. Outside of guards, we were pretty horrible at developing bigs, and to me it's about having a good developmental system which includes the G League.

Any centers in the G league? I wouldn't mind kicking that tire just so Watford can focus on the PF position.

the ones that are available (that I know of) are more like watford than traditional centers. Doubt any of them would play but it’d be nice to have the depth just in case. And it’s always good to take a look at guys you could possibly develop for the future. We’ll have plenty of roster spots next season. I think Freddie Gillespie is good enough to play in the NBA, for example.

I think Casey is a bit confused. We needed a roster spot to convert Watford's two-way.

Now we can always bring in another two-way.

bledsoe might get some PT

might

I'm still thinking that Bledsoe probably won't play unless Dame is returning. But if the Blazers are making a decision to go for play-in seeding, Bledsoe could be 'activated'

getting Watford for 1.8M/year on a 4 year deal is great for Portland. Good for him

if I had been paid $150,000 month in my early twenties, the number of stupid decisions I would have made would have been legion

In his last game against the Lakers, he had 11 assists and six steals in barely 20 minutes.
I refuse to believe there isn't a rotational spot for him somewhere.

he’ll get a contract somewhere for sure. Question is will it be more than the minimum?

But they still have Blevins so all is well.

Bledsoe is underrated. He started on two Bucks teams that had the best record in the league and he’s only 32.
On January 1st, Bledsoe scored 27 points in the Clipper victory in Brooklyn against a Nets team that had James Harden and Kevin Durant.

Watford reminds me of Brian Grant at times. Has a good motor and knows how to block out down low.

Eric Bledsoe was an NBA all defensive first team member in 2019 and an all defensive second team member in 2020.

He's always been a very solid player and Ive seen him numerous times over the years go off on us. Injuries have been his issue plus he isn't as fast.
He can still shoot ok.

Blevins is SUPER cheap for what he is. Which is Dame loyalty points.
You do have a point.
I wonder if he’s also some kind of super soldier bodyguard type as well?
You know safety on the bench.
