And, ATL just beat the Lakers and MIN lost to Boston. A pretty good night considering we didn't even play!

Nobody could have realistically predicted that we would be #1 in the league after 25 games.

It's never the predictions I take issue with, it's what people base their predictions on: ignoring (if not disregarding) training camp, what players are saying about each other, what new players bring to the table and how they fit, anything good from pre-season, and even the wins that keep piling up.

All these people that couldn't smell their own poop on their knees, are wearing the heck outta the "no one could have expected this" mantra, and the "we were surprised." There is no "we", and NO ONE is saying they expected Portland to be #1 after 25 games. But I, and others, expected them to make the play-offs.

If "you" said Portland was going to miss the play-offs, then "you" ignored and disregarded significant factors that have contributed to Portland's success that were KNOWN if you were paying attention and understand the game. People always get defensive and take this personal rather than being accountable. It's silly.

If "you" said the Blazers were not a better rebounding team than last season, after pre-season, "you" ignored and disregarded The Lopez Effect that I and others were well aware of after letting Hickson walk and bringing in RoLo.

This isn't about saying people were wrong, it's about understanding and accepting why - and then shutting the heck up before blurting out another stupid "the Blazers will miss the play-offs" article.

I knew they were going to make the playoffs. I figured maybe 4th or 5th in the west. I never in my wildest dreams thought we'd be #1 in the league at any point this season, and I would be highly skeptical of anyone who said they did think it would happen.

Preach it!

I wouldn't even make this post if the jackass "experts" weren't so emphatic about how much they know. They get all butthurt and defensive when you question them, then play the victim/ad hominem card when you call them out for being emphatically wrong in WHY their prediction isn't accurate. If "you" think the Blazers are a poor rebounding team, then "you" have no business projecting your "expert" opinion, or getting defensive when someone says that "your prediction is based on crap."

All they had to do was look at the acquisitions, and how good our starting unit was last year, to know that the team was going to be much better. Plus there's the natural progression of guys like Dame and Nic. The thing that really caught me off guard was how good LA has been. I really thought that LA had peaked, and he wasn't going to get much better. That's still a really good player, but I didn't think he'd take that step to superstar. He has definitely surprised me.

I will say this though, you can't really take what the players are saying at face value. I've talked to enough pro athletes to know that half of what they say is crap, and the other half you can't print.

Sam Amico just said on Courtside that every single Cav he talked to today said we would finish in the top three in the west.

I wonder if these are the same people that thought Anthony Bennett was a great pick?

Amico was pretty cool. He doesn't think Cleveland will make a trade.

This is so true, and very well said. They (the athletes) have to be on guard now a days with anything they say. With the instant news now, they have to almost be on damage control before the damage is even there.

When guys say Joel is the MVP of training camp, I listened. When they talked about how selfish JJ played last season and how unselfish and huge Robin was, I listened. When they said they were changing up their entire defense to cater more toward keeping Lopez at the rim, I listened. When they talk about the interaction and how well they get along, I listened. When they said LA looks as strong and ready to play like it was mid-season before training camp even started, I listened. One can distinguish the sincerity between "both teams played hard" and "this team is gelling really well, coming in to training camp in shape and hungry."

Listening is the difference between sounding like you know what you're talking about, and sounding like a clueless Homer. If my opinion sounds informed, it's because I was paying attention. I don't think that's asking to much from "experts" with far more access to the players than me. ;)

I told a friend a few games into the season that this was a playoff team, and a 52-57 win team. He laughed and said no way that was going to happen. He was right, I really underestimated them. ;)

I also mentioned that this team reminds me more than any other of our one and only championship team. It is just the way they play as a *team*. No one is forcing it... it looks smooth and easy.

In general, players are guarded. But this season and these players are different. And you can tell they are with how candid they were on media day. It wasn't just the stereo-typical fodder. I was excited as I ever have been and loved me some media day for the first time in... ever.

Why did you think they were a play-off team? These kind of answers are what are interesting for me. ;)

I think this is amazing. Don't be surprised if we are hoisting up a banner Oct of 14.

We did something last night versus Detroit that Indy couldn't do this evening. And they had the tired team.

Think it suggests something.

You know the only thing that sucks about this season we're having........I'm going to have to work NEXT Christmas day again! It was nice having the last 3 off.

That's a good problem to have if you're a Blazer fan.

Ya, but not if you have 2 little ones. There was a stretch that we either played or traveled out on 4 straight christmases, it was tough.

46 wins and I'm sticking by it!

man, 46 wins would suck. That'd mean they went 25-32 the rest of the year. Obviously a possibility, but good grief that would fucking suck.
