sick of all you cheery fucking rainbows up in here.

down 0-2 against a team we should be able to beat pretty easily (best matchup)....would be shit. still pissed that we pissed game 1 away. totally winable game.

The playoffs are all about streaks at the moment.

FOCUS!

Yes, it would be shitty.

No, it would not be over, unless by "it" you mean the regular season.

"cheery fucking rainbows"

that is good stuff el jefe . . . and yes percentage of winning series after losing first two are very low.

I remember when we were down 0-2 to the Sixers in 1977. That turned out okay. We were down 0-3 to these Mavs in 2003 and would have won Game 7 if Pip wouldn't have gone down during the game.

It ain't over 'till it's over; this Blazer team has shown us that countless times.

thank you for rational post

In theory, it isn't a "must win" game. In practice, going down 0-2 overwhelmingly stacks the deck in favor of the Mavs.

...until we come home and win the next two and return to Dallas for game 5 tied 2-2...

Portland needs to take one in Dallas. Doesn't matter when, so long as it happens before Dallas wins four home games. I just wanted a split of these first two games, but it's not disastrous if they don't win one of the two. Losing the first two games is disastrous for the home team, not the road team.

From 2008-2010, only 6 of 24 playoff teams have advanced to the second round after losing the first game.

Hate to see the stats for losing the first two . . . hopefully won't have to look at that stat.

I'm thinking if the blazers go down 0-2...they'll just lay down the rest of the series...maybe win a game...but it seems par for the course for this team. just seen this scenario with the blazers so much.

Not just the Blazers, you lose the first two games in the first round, unlikely you can recover.

But hey there is this:

Here’s the interesting part: since 2000, only one team has lost its first game and then went on to win the NBA championship. That team? The Spurs, who did it in 2003, 2005, and 2007. That’s right, the same Spurs who dropped their first game this year to Memphis. Bad omen for the other teams looking for a title?

Blazers are often compared to the Spurs (somehow) . . . maybe this is the start of the Blazer era a la Spurs of the 2000s . . .

That type of stat can be slightly misleading, in this way: Usually the better team wins game 1. So once you have the superior team also holding a one-game edge, the chances for the weaker team become pretty bleak.

Now, if you believe that Portland is better or evenly-matched with Dallas, that stat becomes a little less meaningful, since the better team didn't take a lead. Of course, if you believe Dallas simply is better, then it is as bleak as that stat suggests. ;)

It's pretty rare to have the home team win every game in a playoff series. I think some people are assuming we are going to sweep the games in Portland but I'd really expect on average we are likely to lose one of the three.

Getting the game tonight allows us to either put their backs against the wall or have the series even out in Portland. Losing tonight means we will have our backs against the wall or the series will even out in Portland.

It's a little easier to win all your home games when you don't have HCA, for the trivial fact that 3 is smaller than 4. This, of course, assumes you aren't playing a clearly better team.

I think Portland is likely to lose one in Portland, but there's a reasonable (though not the highest likelihood) chance they can win all three in Portland. I think Portland is a slightly better team than Dallas and therefore should be heavy favourites at home.

On the other hand, I heard that Dallas was the worst home team among the Western Conference playoff teams and the best road team. So maybe Portland had better plan on winning at least two in Dallas. That, at least, means that if it goes to a Game 7, it's still well within the realm of possibility that Portland can win.
