Are we out of the Rose Bowl race? Stanford did lose to Utah, but would a loss agains them propel them to the PAC-12 championship and we are on the inside track for a BCS bowl? If so, which BCS bowl would accept us?

Fiesta against Baylor?
Sugar against some SEC team
Or Orange vs Clemson?

Re: If we lose to Stanford...

If we lose to Stanford and both UO & Stanford tie for the division, then Stanford plays for the PAC-12 title as they won the head-to-head game. I think there is no question we'd get an at large selection to a BCS game at 11-1. But, if at the end of the season 'Bama, OSU & FSU are undefeated, then "Bama/FSU play in the natty, OSU plays Stanford in the Rose Bowl and UO probably plays in the Fiesta Bowl against whomever.

Re: If we lose to Stanford...

I wouldn't complain then. Who wouldn't want to see that scorefest of Baylor vs. UO?

Plus it's another BCS bowl to continue our streak

Also, for some reason, QBs who win a Natty don't really do well in the NFL. And I do want Mariota to succeed in the next level.

But if we win and get to the natty, I'm not complaining.

It would be the Big 12 champ again, although there is a chance that the Orange Bowl could take Oregon as an at-large, since I believe they have first choice of at-large teams this year. There is a chance that the Ducks could be left out of a BCS game, though, is Northern Illinois or Fresno State qualify.

Let's say Oregon loses a game to Stanford in this hypothetical, and the other unbeaten teams win out.

BCS title game: 'Bama/FSU
Rose Bowl: Pac 12 champ/tOSU
Fiesta Bowl: Baylor/BCS at-large (2nd choice, I believe)
Orange Bowl: AAC champ (Louisville/Cincy/etc.)/At large. A one-loss Clemson would be the Orange Bowl's pick, I believe. They then would get last pick (NIU of Fresno?).
Sugar Bowl: NIU or Fresno/At large. Assume that either LSU or Auburn will be BCS eligible. One of them gets the bid.

In this scenario, teams in the mix would include Wisconsin/Michigan State/Oregon/Stanford (if they lose Pac-12 title game)/Oklahoma??? Oregon would be selected over Stanford, based on fans traveling, but a 2-loss OU may be more attractive in terms of selling seats than a 1-loss Oregon for the Fiesta Bowl, considering Oregon played in it last year.

It's possible that both Oregon and Stanford could be shut out of BCS bowls if Stanford beats Oregon, then loses to ASU/UCLA/Arizona/USC in the Pac 12 title game. Meaning Stanford would be in the Alamo Bowl, and Oregon would likely end up in the Holiday Bowl.

It would be interesting, to say the least.

Losing is not even an option! We win and win in style! Stanford is a great team but we are elite this year!

Marcus's name on the Heisman with this game!

Re: If we lose to Stanford...

After last year's NIU debacle I am not so sure Fresno State or NIU get a sniff.

If we lose to Stanford, I'm going to go fuck someone really hard....

It one (or both) of them is in the BCS 12, the higher ranked of the two would be in a BCS game automatically, or if they are in the BCS Top 16, and the winner of the 6 automatic qualifier is ranked lower, then the higher ranked of NIU or Fresno would get an automatic bid. Neither will get an at-large bid, but if they hit the above criteria, they can't be denied a BCS bowl, no matter how terrible they are.

That's whack.

Sorry, the thread title was really bothering me.

We can't lose to Stanford two times in a row, can't let them knock us out of the title race 2 years in a row, they've not looked nearly as dominant as us this year. To beat them at their place will be so sweet!

Indeed it will. Indeed it will.

Could be a long day tomorrow. That Stanford defense worries me.

their D Line is banged up and lacks depth. In a rivals chat with the main Stanford writer, he said that the D-Line rotation for their 3-4 only has 4 guys left in their rotation. Pretty much guaranteed they'll be gassed by the 2nd half

I'm expecting a comfortable 20+ point win

How are they going to be gassed if they've hardly been on the field?

Don't be a douche Stomp. No one is more upset about this than I am, and turning on your fellow fans is no answer.

The team didn't lose this game because Mariota tweaked his knee. This game was lost in the trenches. Both our running game and run defense were blown up. While Colt was a disappointment as a receiver, there is no doubt in my mind that we miss his blocking.

right... :rolleyes2: pot / kettle

Easily Oregon's best player this season has been Mariota. He was injured going into the game and neither you or anyone here was aware of that being anything but a rumor. It certainly wasn't something you sited when you threw out a pessimistic prediction about the Stanford game very similar to what you've expressed about most every big game. With MM's injury contributing heavily you turned out to be right... now you're gloating and calling me a douche. Classy!

Stomp: I apologize for using the word "douche." That was uncalled for. I stand by the rest of my statement.

Mariota's performance - 250 yards, 2 TDs, no INTs - would have been enough to win....if the running game hadn't been crushed.

apology accepted, but MM's running threat has been a huge part of their running game. The read option is their bread and butter play and when there is little threat that the QB will tuck it and run the D can focus on option A. That was a major factor in why the running game was crushed.

I'd like to see Marcus rest it/get healthy, and next man up be it Lockie or Jake

We are a running team, and when we can't run at all, that puts a serious crimp in our game plan. Not many teams can do what Stanford did to us.

I understand what you are saying, but consider this. With the way the O-line was being out-played, would Mariota have just been turned into a punching bag?

consider this, I think you're having real problems recalling the rest of the season. Mariota has deftly played Ole! with any defender who poked through the line, turned on the jets and flew for 1st downs and more. He was the Heisman front runner for a reason. Thursday with the knee he was pedestrian and couldn't move. If you don't understand why a zone read based offense is a whole lot less effective if you have a QB who the D knows can't run just say so and I'll explain it
