I think your examples are lacking. Christopher Lee resigned almost instantly - maybe he was "pilloried" after that, but there certainly wasn't time to pillory him beforehand. And if I remember correctly Larry Craig's issue didn't even hit the press until a couple of months later, after he had admitted his guilt in court.

You don't find a congressman's Blackberry, Facebook, and Twitter accounts simultaneously being hacked as newsworthy? Some recent college grad is sitting in jail for hacking Sarah Palin's yahoo email. So, Weiner claims he got hacked, but that he regained control of all of the hacked accounts/items in a matter of minutes, and he doesn't want the FBI to investigate the identity of his hacker? Plus, he retained lawyers and is "considering" legal action. That isn't his decision to make, is it?

Mmmmkay. Cool story, Weiner. So he sent a junk shot to some hottie. Just own it if it isn'[t a big deal. Or, if he did get hacked, prosecute the hacker to the fullest extent of the law. I'm thinking he probably made up the hacking excuse before thinking of the ramifications of what an investigation may bring. Filing a false police report would be a start, but what's on his Blackberry is probably a bit embarrassing, and what has been sent from it. So, now he needs to find a way to take back his "hacking" story and hope this thing goes away.

What I don't understand is... why they are only considering legal action? This hack was a serious breach of a sitting member of congress. The FBI/Secret Service should have been contacted immediately and any evidence retained. I would have thought it would be automatic, that when a member of congress reports being hacked that there are protocols in place that just happen whether someone wants to pursue things or not. Twitter should have been notified immediately as well so that they could assist (which didn't happen since he never lost his "verified" status as occurs in the case of hacks). This should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Who hacked it? How? Weiner has a top security clearance. My guess is that his lawyers are trying to calm down the FBI before they uncover Weiner's lie about sending his weener. They'll have to tell the truth eventually. It's not a GOP issue. The guy that hacked Palin's Yahoo! account literally went to prison. If a congressman's accounts can be hacked this easily, the FBI should find out why. I don't really think it's newsworthy, no. Facebook friends of mine get phished on a regular basis, and they're not public officials. Unless he's using a hard password, it seems likely that it's just a matter of time until he got hacked. People who don't use hard passwords often share a password between multiple accounts, so multiple hackings are pretty common.

If he has his shit together, someone would have let him know almost immediately that he was hacked and then he could change his password and he's no longer hacked. No big deal in any case.

Worst case scenario: he was having an affair and he's lying to cover it up. That's simply not a big deal to me. He's not my representative and I don't think it's really my business.
