This is like the Black Friday of the NBA where teams go batshit crazy. None of these deals make sense - D'Angelo Russell to the Warriors? Al Horford to Philly? Jimmy Butler to Miami? All of them would be much more useful somewhere else.

I still can't belive fucking warriors got russell, they were blessed with extremely good talent and now their best player walks out and they stil get a very good player. Fuck this league

Russell disappears for huge stretches and needs the ball in his hands. Their D will suffer having to eject Iggy due to the cap. This reeks of a panic move.

That being said, he a good trade piece for them to use down the road.

Instead of losing KD for nothing they got Russell by just getting rid of Iggy and his terrible contract. I think it's a great move for them. Russell is a player they can trade in the future and get a good return, he is still very young.

Also remember he plays for Kerr who has made guys like Cook, Livingston look pretty good at times. Russell was better than nothing. Can be shipped out anytime, if he doesn't fit.

A crazy free agency. So many players on the move and many to teams you wouldn't suspect. Felt like free agency for the mock game we are playing on here.

I dont understand how they got Russel for free.

There's no other team in the league who wants a young, all-star PG and is willing to give useful assets for it? why are Nets trying to contend and help the Warriors at the same time?

None of this makes sense.

Warriors gave up a future first. And once D'Lo knew that the Warriors wanted him, I could see him telling the Nets that if they wanted to get anything for him, the Warriors would be the only team to which he would agree to a S&T.

It actually cost them two firsts (one to unload Iggy)

Rough trade

Russell is actually a great move.

He'll replace Klay while he's out for the injury and once Klay come back he can be a useful piece in trades.

The alternative would have been to lose KD for nothing since the Warriors does not have cap space.

I disagree with that. Russell appears to have turned into a very good player over the last year, but, not only does he not seem to fit into the Warriors usual system very cleanly, you have the problem of what do you do when Klay comes back. Is Russell the 2 and Klay now is guarding 3s all the time? GS suddenly has concerns guarding in the backcourt.

The other issue is, with the amount of money Russell got, the Warriors bench might be even thinner than it was this season. And there's so much turnover on that roster. They basically have to get all their moves right.

Russel will get a ton of opportunities, will put up good numbers, the Warriors will still win quite a few games, and his trade value will be quite high to some team thinking he is the shiznit.

Short term getting Russell is a good move, gives them insurance if Steph has ankle problems (which has become pretty common), gives them another solid scorer while Klay rehabs his acl.
In the long term its a strange fit, does Klay move over to the 3? Does Russell’s game really work in their offense. How much does it hurt their defense now that they have two guys to hide (steph and Russell) instead of one.

However longterm he’s become a talented piece thats put it together, he could be be used as a trade piece to stock pile assets and depth or to balance out the top of their roster. It makes sense if they’re gonna lose KD to try to get something for him.

I imagine the Nets look at it as, they got Durant for Russel. Since they were bringing in Kyrie separately, Russel was the odd man out and moving him for someone they were giving a max contract to, anyway, preserved cap space that probably went to DeAndre.

From that perspective, trading Russel to any other team wouldn't have brought back more value, as it already resulted in the best possible outcome they were seeking.

Getting Russell is a great move for the Warriors. They can play with 3 solid guards and force other teams to match up, once they start launching 3. Is he ideal? NO. but this is the best they could get after loosing Durant.
They can always trade him later, if he doesn't fit.

...what I dont understand is all these deals that Woj bombed then turned into S&T deals? Is this the most S&T deals in any offseason ever? Was it really just due to the sheer number of free agents or what? :dunno:

It was a weird draft, so following it up with a weird FA, doesn't really feel weird.

Not a fan of what SAC is doing for example. It's like they came close to making
the playoffs, so they made sure THAT won't happen.

The Warriors with Russell better hope they can get a 6-8 seed.

They are gonna be a SIEVE on defense and we're gonna destroy them.

Understand this between your incessant whines.

I agree. The Warriors got someone to hold the fort until Klay comes back - and a trade asset after. The Warriors are far from done - they still have Steph, Klay and Draymond. They just need to retool around them. They will be fine.

Can Stotts beat them with Whiteside ?

That draft pick is worthless, i wouldn't want the 30th pick just so i can meet them in the finals (not that i think they have a shot at the finals).

Anyway, i don't think Klay's injury was that bad. I've never seen a player running, shooting and jumping right after this kind of injury.
They got Looney,Green and their moving screens back...still one of the best teams in the league and i wouldn't put money on the Blazers to beat them in a series.

I think Nurkic was a big problem for the Warriors last year, even when they had KD. I am not familiar enough with Whiteside to tell you if he will give them the same kind of problem Nurkic did.

Mistake. That first round pick can be packaged to move up on draft day.

Prove it.

Prove it.

I just read somewhere that Steve Kerr mentioned it that without a healthy Cousins this was the biggest issue the Warriors had against Portland - as they had no-one to neutralize his presence in the paint. This is about as good of a proof I can give you, I do not maintain a cache of references to everything I read throughout the year.

This thread really needs Kelly LeBrock.
I assume you mean this version right?
