Barring a trade, Portland's roster is essentially set now. They have all 15 roster spots filled with players on guaranteed contracts, and one open two-way spot that will likely remain open at the start of training camp as they either see who earns it in camp or who comes available throughout the league when teams make roster cuts ahead of opening night.

in 2022-23 he was 14th on the Spurs in defensive rating and 15th in DBPM
in 2023-24 he was 13th on the Spurs in defensive rating and 6th in DBPM
last season he was 8th on the Spurs in defensive rating and 7th in DBPM

in all 3 seasons in San Antonio, he had a worse defensive rating than his team. And he has a negative career DBPM. In fact, after all the shit Dame has got over the years for his defense, his career DBPM is -0.9; Wesley's is -0.6. And Dame posted that number against starters while Wesley went against backups and scrubs. Those aren't good indicators for his defensive chops.

Camara-Jrue-Avdija-Thybulle-Rupert. Blazers do have some good perimeter defenders. Where Portland is weak is in shooting. Last season, the Blazers were 26th in FG%; 24th in 2ptFG%; 26th in 3ptFG%; 26th in FT%; 25th in eFG%; 23rd in TS%.

sure seems that the Blazers could have found a player at Wesley's level on defense with some actual shooting skills. No big deal, obviously, he's the 15th player in the rotation and will rarely see the floor...probably

He's a 3rd year player that showed some 3&D flashes at the end of the season, would you like it if it was put like that? On a one year deal it's literally a nothingburger.

So Portland rarely caries 14 players on the roster throughout the season....
I may have been wrong on which season we last carried 14 players -> but the point remains that carrying 15 guys is the norm.

On a positive note it's not Keljin Blevins who went from Calgary Canadian hoops to playing in Indonesia last season....Lamar Hurd said, see you soon to him a few days ago...people were starting to worry but maybe he'll be a Remix allstar in the future....I'd take BW over KB for that 15 spot.

1. you literally said 5 years.
2. You’re counting two ways they converted into full time during the season, like duop
3. Spotrac only shows the end of the season contracts. You’ll see traded players like in 21-22
3. 22-23 had 14 throughout the year until they signed jeenathan Williams at the end, which you included

it’s not really that hard to find that the blazers usually carry 14 going into the season. They literally talk about liking the flexibility of having 14 for trades all the time, when usually it’s just a cover for saving money

I admitted that I didn't remember carrying 14 players through the 2020 season. So instead of 5-seasons in a row, I should have said 6 of the last 7. It could be more, but I'm not going to investigate it further.

The response I was replaying to said, "We never carry 15 players"... which is obviously false.

If it's not hard to find that Blazers usually carry 14 going into the season (which was not the conditions of the discussion) -> then please provide the evidence of that.
 
I thought we signed the guy who was trying to take over the town in "Roadhouse," the one Patrick Swayze was fighting to stop. But then I remembered his first name wasn't Blake.

Mays and Minaya were two ways. Ish Wainright was picked up right before the season began on waivers (During preseason I believe).

Last year was the first year in awhile where they've meant to carry 15 into the season. I think they carried 14 into camp last year as well, but had Dalano Banton and Devonte Graham fighting for the last spot.

Blake Wesley is a star in the making. He wasn’t the most heralded recruit coming out of high school but is having a big impact at Notre Dame and looking the part of a future NBA draft pick with lottery potential.

Wesley has great size and a NBA worthy frame. He’s agile, quick and has the ability to penetrate into the lane, using his great burst and solid ball handling abilities. He’s got a nice in-between game and nice touch in the lane and from mid range.

Wesley has room for improvement as a playmaker/facilitator. Right now he’s wired to score the ball – and does so at a high level. He also has a lot of work to do as a shooter and it is likely going to take him a few years before he becomes much of a 3pt threat the next level.

Although his game is raw and unrefined it’s incredibly rare to find an athlete of his caliber who has the ability to take over a game with his blow-by speed and ability to penetrate. Even by NBA standards he’s an elite athlete.
