I'm asking if Monk was available because i saw the draft show and Adam Silver said "The Kings Select...", which made me think the Kings made the selection for us and we had no choice but take Collins.

This is horrible, i think i'm off "Olshey Island".
A General Manager selecting the inferior player based on 'need' is just awful, what a fatal mistake.

We wanted Zach Collins, identified him as our draft target. We arranged with Kings that if he's still not off the board at #10, we are taking that pick from them and giving them #15 and #20. It doesn't matter who else is available, we took the player that we identified and wanted.

Also, Olshey does not believe that Collins is an inferior player at all. He's very high on his potential.

Some dolts on this board are talking about Collins not starting. But Karl Anthony Towns only averaged 21 minutes per game in his one year at Kentucky. And these 2 players put up very similar numbers. With Collins actually being much better and 2 and 3pt % 67/48 vs 58/25. Rebounding, blocks and points were almost identical.

KAT is a pretty good comparison to Collins. But I think Collins will be better defensively. We could well have gotten a better version of KAT and people on this forum are bitching about it.

If he's anywhere near as awesome as KAT I'd flip out.

You may want to take a deeper dive before you call Collins a poor man's Cody Zeller. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Based on their collegiate performance, Zeller would be, at best, a poor man's Zach Collins.

Start by looking at advanced stats, like TS%, TRB% and BLK%. Collins wins on all counts.

As freshmen, Collins averaged almost as many rebounds and 50% more blocks in 17 MPG as Zeller did in 28 MPG.

And Zeller was the 4th pick in the draft, making Collins look like a real bargain at 10.

Collins wasn't even a starter for his college team. He was a bench player. His numbers are inflated because he was playing against second string players in a weak conference. I love the Blazers and hope I'm wrong but I just don't see him being much of a impact player in the NBA. If he was really a better prospect that Zeller he would of been a starter.

I am anxious to see our new WABPF in summer league. I know they played SOME quality teams, but I really hope his numbers weren't inflated due to competition.

Anxious to see his twitch muscles.
Anxious to see his defense
Anxious to see shot release speed

I am impressed! You are maintaining very good, even though he's a WAB. I fully expected something like this.....

A lot of times, coaches in college play their freshmen about 20 minutes per game. That's how much KAT and Rasheed played their freshman year for example. If you're worried about the competition in Gonzaga, look at what Collins did in the tournament.

In the final 2 games, against North and South Carolina, he played 37 minutes total, had 23 points, 20 rebounds and 9 blocks.

Good fucking night.

I'm trying. I'd rather not draft tall white guys born in America, but maybe drafting a bench player from a small school in a weak confetence will pay off?
NO sure seems sold on him. The more stuff I watch and read; the more I like him. Who knows though....

He sure looked like the best player on his team in the tourney. There was a major difference when he went off the court. Im a big believer in watching how college kids play against other great players and he looked damn good in tourney.

ZCO!

And if he sucks we'll call him Z-D'OH!

He seems intriguing.... hopefully he can contribute right away. We don't need another 19 year old project.

Moe has definitely shown improvement since we picked him up. Last year was definitely his best. He just needs to keep on grinding in the gym and working on his handle and 3 point shot (which are already looking better each year. I'm rooting for the guy.
I think Harkless is the perfect SF for our team at this point in time. He's the one player we have who knows how to cut to the basket, and when he does receive a pass he knows how to catch it and go up quick with his shot. He's an opportunistic scorer who shot 50%+ from the floor - that sort of efficiency from the 4th/5th option is terrific! Offensively, he fits perfectly with Dame/CJ who do 60% of the heavy lifting from everywhere on the court and Nurkic who has the vision and passing ability to hit players on the move, and PFs in Vonleh/Collins who can stick the mid-range. Nurkic really opened up the offense for our SF/PF positions, and the addition of Collins further solidifies what Vonleh started building once Nurk commanded interior attention. I'm getting very excited about our growing core:

Dame
CJ
Harkless
Vonleh/Collins
Nurkic

If both Vonleh and Harkless continue improving upon what they showed in their limited time with Nurkic, and if Collins pans out, that's a great 6-man core, and terrific 3-man front-court rotation. I didn't like Turner at all last season, but will be interested to see how he fits with this group if he's not traded.

Depending on the continued development of Harkless/Vonleh and Collins, we could be 1 or 2 players away from a really solid 8-man rotation!

I think this is a hilarious take... And we don't know if Monk is or isn't gonna be an All star.... He hasn't played one NBA minute and you think you know what he's gonna be... Goodness...

Welcome Zach, you've got one season to impress me or you can rot in hell, the choice is yours!

Dafuq are you? In the words of The Great Dame:

"I'm tryna figure out why you think your opinion carries much weight :smiley-hmm:"

I already addressed this. He was a 19-year old freshman that came off the bench behind a 23-year old 7'1" 304 lb. 5th year senior.

The last Zach we drafted wasn't a starter in college either, and he turned out to be a pretty decent NBA player.

Do you realize how many great NBA players did not start as freshmen? Russel Westbrook did not start as a freshman at UCLA and one played 9 MPG averaging 3.4 PPG. Jimmy Butler did not start as a freshman. Draymond Green didn't start as a freshman.

As far as playing in a weak conference goes, did you see how he played in the NCAA Tournament? He may not been a starter, but he was named 1st team all tournament. He played against some pretty good competition and played very well.

We don't know anything.

The draft is a gamble.

What i expect from Monk:
-To be a great scorer/shooter (Easy bet).
-To be athletic enough for the NBA (He is).
-To be explosive enough so he can penetrate and get easy baskets (good bet).
-To be an above average defender (Shown the potential, even though he's not a good off-ball defender).

What we need from Collins:
-To be a good rebounder against big NBA players and not children (who knows).
-To be quick and agile enough so he can switch and defend NBA guards (big bet).
-To be able to put a body and block NBA players in time (big bet).
-To be a good shooter (easy bet).

I just think Collins has more unknowns in this game, i see him as 10 and 7 guy AT BEST.
Maybe i'm jaded after seeing so many tall players like him who ended up being failures.

I think it would have been easier to get Monk and trade him for a proven PF down the line.

No you don't get it. Olshey didn't draft Monk, so he will definitely be an all star. Huge mistake. Huge.
