We need a point guard and you can not just give up a starting spot like we do at SF.

We are still going to be FUCKING awesome and we'll be the #2 seed next year... But this is a MASSIVE MASSIVE wake up call...

And hey,

See ya Tuesday

hmmm basically why i wanted a trade so badly.

we need to upgrade PG and SF....

beating a dead horse.

i don't see why we give up the SF spot. why does batum only play his 14 minutes and he sits? he can do things if given the time.

i dont really agree about the small forward part. batum only plays like 16 minutes a game(please nate play him more!!)...outlaw and roy make up for whats lost from batum, IMO.....

but i agree with point guard. i hope bayless really works all summer on his game, so eventually he can take over steve blake as the starter, and move blake to back up...unless we sign somebody like andre miller and let bayless sit on the bench again(summer league anyone?)..

dude... get a clue....

we need a vet at pg....did u watch brooks vs blake? i just hope blake accepts the backup role

Fair point, but I don't think we should have to "make up" for our starting SF.

I like Nic very much, but we give up a lot at that position IMO... too much. We don't have an starting NBA SF.

We don't.

We have 3 guys trying to patchwork together that spot. They've done a pretty good job considering, but it's never going to be enough to take the next step.

i agree with the patchwork part...the team isnt fully built yet...but do you consider martell a starting NBA SF?

Why are you guys so down on your team? Its just 1 game guys, there are still many games left to be played. I am sure the Blazers will come out with much more intensity in the next game. You guys are acting as if you got eliminate. Damn, just down 0-1. Rockets were up 2-0 beating the Mavs at Dallas in the first 2 games but went on to lose the series in 7. Anything can happen still.

why was frye playing tonight? trav should be the 4 and play batum more at the 3

Well when Dallas lost in the first round after that 67 win season, a part of it was because they changed their game for the first game to what they thought would help them beat the Warriors rather than making the Warriors change to them. I would rather play our game first and see how that goes then make adjustments when needed, than throw things off before they need to change. I don't think it would have made that much of a difference this game, but just on principle...

Agreed.

Panic seemed to set in pretty quick tonight, although it may have been planned, it didn't feel right. The sub patterns changed etc.

I'm fucking gutted, but I refuse to lose it until I see what happens Tuesday night.

This is only 1/7 of the fight.

channing loves portland but portland doesnt love channing! thank god we only have a few games left of him. no way they resign him

Fucking unbelievable that Frye played 20 minutes tonight. When Joel picked up his 3rd foul in the first half, we were trailing by 9 points with 3 minutes and something to go. GO had 2 fouls. But guess what? Nate decided to save GO and subbed in Frye. We fell behind by 19 points by half time.

Good post.

Big mistake, and hopefully all parties involved on the PDX side learned a few things tonight.

And we did learn tonight that Roy truly is a fighter and a leader. Still too young to make it all happen, but the team is in good hands with him as the head.

I can't believe he got what he got today in three quarters, despite being guarded by two different great defenders, and having virtually no one else (other than Greg) help him out.

Yep. The balls of an elephant.

Blake IS a vet. Been in the league 6 years.

He is a vet, but he isn't really a PG.

Blake, when he is on, has value as a designated shooter....though in game 1 he wasn't even a factor in that department. We need a *real* PG - someone who will keep the offense running even when the other team plays tough defense. If they would make half an effort to guard their counterpart on the other team, that would also be nice!

Yup. That is why I picked Roy as the biggest matching advantage for us in that thread. I was also surprised that so many picked LaMarcus. I had a bad feeling that not only would Scola neutralize him, but will outplay him. LaMarcus MUST step up in this series.

LMA was horrible tonight - but he had company. LMA/Outlaw/Frye combined had fewer rebounds than Scola alone (and barely outscored him).

As for Roy, he barely outscored Artest, despite taking twice as many shots. He didn't embarass himself, but he didn't exactly step up and carry the team either.

The beauty of a long series against one team is you get to look at game film and make adjustments.

I might consider starting this lineup next game:
Roy, Oden, Joel, LMA, Outlaw (or Batum)

The extra big defender (Oden) could help give Ming a difficult time scoring out of the blocks.

The matchups?

Roy guards Brooks.
LMA guards Battier
Oden guards Scola
Joel guards Ming
Outlaw or Batum guards Artest

that would probably do well, but then who would we sub in at center? and if all th bigs pick up a couple fouls, we would have ruffin and frye playing...not good.

dude... get a clue....

so brooks/2nd year player > blake/6 year vet, but we need a vet? because brooks is better than blake?

???

You're not going to play that lineup for 48 minutes. You're going to wait until they rest Yao and then sub in Blake or Batum/Outlaw for one of the bigs.

Seems to me the key to being in the game is to prevent Yao from getting out of the blocks strong. It'd take away the inside/outside game they played so well in game 1.

I'm not going to get all down on the team just because of one loss where they pretty clearly forgot what it was that got them in the playoffs in the first place, but this is the reason there were so many rumors about KP trying as hard as hell to get a point guard through trade. Blake is a bit like Joel in that he'd be the best backup at his position in the league if that was his role, but thrust into the starting lineup he's got some deficiencies you can't quite mask against an elite athlete like Brooks and especially against an elite defensive team like the Rockets.

Then you have our backups:
Bayless has the elite body to match another opposing point guard stride for stride on the defensive end, but his offensive game is so raw and un-NBA ready that you can't count on him to be out there either

Sergio has elite passing ability, but not the strength to fight through picks, or to prevent post-ups from bigger guards so he gets pushed around and in a starting role wouldn't be able to prevent an opponent from getting to their spots.

Look on the bright side (such as it is) the playoffs are going to reveal this team's warts in full living colour, and give KP a pretty clear idea of what needs to be addressed in the off-season -- this is where we find out who they are.

is brooks better than bayless? if so what the fuck are we doing? if brooks is a legit starter, we need to do a better job of drafting pgs.
