Wenyen Gabriel?

Gabriel removed being a Blazer from his social media. He's gone

That's too bad. He was probably the 3rd best defender on the team last year (Ariza/Trent) and probably the best big at being able to switch out on to the perimeter. He showed he had the ability to hit shots and should be able to improve on that. Was hoping he would be back in some capacity.

Agreed.

Olshey is right up against the tax line (~$600k below) with how the roster sits right now. He's not going to make any more moves until near the trade deadline.... I was hoping that he'd bring Gabriel back on a min contract and giving CJ2 a 2-way contract.

Is Gabriel even eligible for a 2-way at this point?

I like wenyen but he was very raw.
Nobody has signed him yet...that should tell you something.
Harry Giles is a big upgrade. We will soon forget about wenyen

No question about who has more skills. Giles just hasn't been able to stay on the court.

Well, if anyone loves to take chances on injury prone big men, its the Blazers

I liked Gabriel, but it's not like we're missing out watching the next Jermaine O'Neal. He looked so good because of who he was playing up against (we had a year of seeing Tolliver, Bazemore and Mario...almost anyone would appear to be a huge improvement).

It wasn't just his play that I liked about him: he was a genuinely decent person and actually seemed to find playing basketball a joyful experience (contrast: Anfernee). Yeah, I know that counts for jack shit, but there you go.

So...? Does Harry Giles mean Gabriel's gone? I hope not - I think he did enough in the bubble to deserve coming back. He would be a lot more useful than Melo, for example.
Hold on homie...... did you just type that Wenyen would be "more useful" than Melo? In the NBA? This season? You are going to have to follow this up with some reasons as to why you believe this right?
Ask Dame who he would want on the court with him this season.
I wish there was a button to push that could kick you off this site! I'd push it!

Oh damn you think Simons doesn’t find joy in playing basketball?

Right. Neil talking today about how he was focusing on getting defensive players this year and then he forgets about Gabriel? Maybe it's Gabriel's choice; maybe he has an offer from a club that can use him more? I wish one of the reporters had asked Neil something about him.

Wenyen is the superior defensive player and I was excited to see his contributions this season but Giles is much more talented.

You're damn lucky there is no such button! :)

Granted I didnt watch a ton of the Bubble, but I definitely watch the majority of Blazer games...and the Wenyen Gabriel fandom is surprising. Seems like a a great dude. They have had to let a lot of good guys go, just the business. But as a player, with this roster and the depth, Gabriel would be playing 0 mins a night. If he could be a 2 way guy, that'd be great. Otherwise, this doesnt really impact the team unfortunately. As surprised as I am about people's reactions, it still doesnt come close to the Ed Davis meltdown.

Melo is an inefficient ball-stopping scorer and nothing else. If Melo was anything other than that do you think he would've been out of the league when we threw him a lifeline? Wouldn't he be paid more than the minimum? His re-signing is a PR stunt at best. Wenyen, on the other hand, blends in and hustles. And he shot threes at about the same rate as Carmelo in the Bubble.

If such a button existed you wouldn't have access to this site any more to push it.

The fact that Gabriel saw playing time in an NBA playoff game shows just how incredibly short handed we were as a team. Nice kid, but hustle only gets you so far.
