And I think Nic has put up very nice numbers when he has started at the 2 in the past.

He has, but I thought they were more productive than the 3 position. I looked it up and his play was still good, but not as nearly as good when he was 3.

I would hope that Stotts slides Batum at SG and start Wright at 3 until Wes comes back. He will most likely start Mo though.

Funny, I thought Batum didn't have the ballhandling skills to play full time SG in a game?.

I would be surprised if Wes did not start opening night. If he doesn't I would guess they would go with the extra ball handler. Dragic is not going to over power a smaller sG. So Mo would be my choice.

It's not who is the better player. Sometimes you need that scorer off the bench.

Aren't both Wright and Mo Williams about the same in that regards? Either way they will have that scorer off the bench.

^^What I was about to say. I don't think there's any issue in Wright's conscience about being a gunner off the bench.

Yeah that's true. I was just thinking that Wright is more of that "pure shooter" that would work better in the starting unit. Mo is a streak shooter; like Crawford is. I would rather have that type of player coming off the bench, than the one that can drain open threes (something they would get more of playing with Aldridge in the line-up)

It's the last preseason game, but FWIW:

. @wessywes2 (atrial fibrillation) is out for tonight's game vs. Warriors. Will Barton @WillTheThrillB5 will start in his place.

A-fib can be a nothing, or it can be a big deal. They might shock his heart back into a regular rhythm, or it might not work, or it might work for a short time, when go back to a-fib.

We're pull'n for ya Wes!

I just want to point out that the Oregonian had an article a few days ago that said this was going to be the first game in which all five starters would actually play together. There were some comments made that the article jinxed the team, and then the next day Wes has this happen.

Bad joojoo people!

With that in mind: this will NOT be the year we win the championship...

It's preseason. Makes sense to start Barton. If Wes' heart issue lingers -- and we all hope it doesn't -- and if Barton bombs, then we can think about a Batum / Wright line-up.

I am kind of curious to see Will with the whole starting unit. I know he has started a few preseason games, but not sure if it has been with Lillard, Nic, Robin and LMA. One of the things I like about him is he likes to cut to the basket. With or without the ball. Certainly can't spread the floor like Wes, but he is a better ball handler and a better finisher. Playing with the starters he may not find the need to force things. Could be interesting.

The thing that worries me about Will the Thrill playing with the starters is his decision making and ball hoggeshness. That's just how he rolls -- or at least he did last year. It can work with other subs, against other subs, but that's clearly not his role tonight. I hope he's gained some maturity to understand and execute his roll with the starters. This is how you find out, is by starting him in preseason. I wish I could watch.

Yeah I don't think it would take more than one game for the starters and/or coaches to point out what his role is with that unit. Hogging the ball will not be an issue. My concern is he will do just the opposite and be afraid to do too much. But that also would be pointed out after a game or two.

I wonder if any of this is related to Wes looking a little and not having much lift so far this preseason.

I'm sure if he's not getting as much oxygen as he should to his muscles, it would cause some problems!

Portland G Wesley Matthews has been cleared to return to practice today after experiencing an irregular heartbeat earlier this week.
