Obviously that seems to be where this is going. Our division will make sense after we move to Vegas.
what?
Seriously? Wth. I had someone tell me there was a realignment, i went and looked and posted.
Wow. Cant believe I really never noticed it before.
Only need 1 team to move to the East to realign. We currently have 30, 15 and 15. If we add 2 to the west, it's 17 and 15. So only 1 moves. I have to imagine Minnesota makes the most sense. Even if Memphis is further east, they are at least close to N.O. and texas teams. Minny isn't close to anyone. Except the Central divisionYeah, won't be a realignment again until the next expansion. When the Sonics get added back and Vegas gets a team, there will be some shuffling. Grizzlies will head to eastern conference with OKC moving to SW division. Sonics will take their spot in NW division. The Timberwolves will also likely head east, meaning we get the Kings or Vegas in their place in the NW division.
Alternatively, Grizzlies and Pelicans move east. Suns and Thunder move to SW. NW inherits Sonics Pacific inherits Vegas. Minn stays in western conference in the NW.

I'm assuming they drop the East - West format altogether.Only need 1 team to move to the East to realign. We currently have 30, 15 and 15. If we add 2 to the west, it's 17 and 15. So only 1 moves. That would end up being far more travel, unless they still kept the schedules the exact format, in which case, why eliminate.I'm assuming they drop the East - West format altogether.
I think 4 4s is most likely. 2 8s would be cool too. Although really I'd prefer they just eliminate divisions all together.Oh right
So both conferences would have one division with six teams.
Or both conferences create a fourth division and each division has four teams.
With 32 teams. they go to 4 conferences of 8 teams. Way easier and they don't have to increase the amount of games the season has which is already too long. That would end up being far more travel, unless they still kept the schedules the exact format, in which case, why eliminate.
No, I don’t think so.I'm assuming they drop the East - West format altogether.
The numbers get sketchy staying with two conferences. Maybe stay with east and west but just go to two divisions each? Course they could go with 4 divisions each also? No, I don’t think so.
With the cup the NBA now doesn't schedule 82 games - they schedule 80 and then add two for cup play.So let's say they added the Vegas whatevers and the Seattle WeLoseOurTeamsALot.
That means each conference would have 16 teams.
So 15x4 = 60.
They play the eastern conference now 32 times.
That means they have 10 "extra" games.
This creates weird issues with an even schedule.
out of conference games (32). 16 teams = 32 games
50 left. 50 doesn't easily go into 15 (the # of opponents).
It's well above my pay grade.
They should just get rid of East vs West.
There has been this ridiculous imbalance for 20+ years between the East and West.
Make it the top 16 teams. Done and done. Take out the playins.
So maybe an 87-game schedule? Each team plays the other 29 teams 3 times a year.....and then they alternate each year to see who gets 2 of the 3 at home? Worth a shot. I would get rid of pre-season games
The current format actually in many ways helps the west stay superior. The west gets 7 lottery picks every year regardless of the east sometimes having a far higher number of crappy teams.I just think East vs West isn't working. It hasn't in a long time.
If they add two teams something along these lines will have to happen. There will have to be a way to divide it by 32. Now as far as the amount of games is concerned I highly doubt they go with less than 82. More likely they go to 88.How about change to 4 divisions of 8 teams? We had 4 divisions for decades previously.
Play all 16 teams in other conference twice.
Play 7 division opponents 4 times.
Play 8 teams in other conference division half twice and half 3 times
Wild variation would be to have first two rounds of playoffs only within each division.

I think that ship sailed. 7 games series is more money. No less than 2 home games for each team.If they do that I'd like to see 5 game series' in the first round.
They stay with 82 games with the cup. So that means 80 games scheduled same as this season. If they add two teams something along these lines will have to happen. Yep, I liked the 5 game first round but zero chance that returns. If anything they make playin best of 3 or Finals/CF 9 game seriesI think that ship sailed. 7 games series is more money. No less than 2 home games for each team.

It just seems the league doesn’t make moves that reduce profits.I agree with you KJ, that the ship has sailed, but if not, I'm with Hail on this.
