His behaviour off the court directly affects team chemistry. Look at how many chemistry problems the Nets have had since the year 2005? How many times have we read "off the record" quotes from players lambasting Kidd? Kidd is the best player on this team and the greatest player the franchise has ever witnessed, but it was time for him to go and this is was an excellent deal for the Nets.

I don't see why carter is still here though. Time to ship him off. Build around a core of Krstic/Harris/RJ. Thats a solid nucleus, if you can add some young pieces for VC.

Stack signed a 3 year deal in the offseason. If we buy him out it's a disaster. No cap space. He has roughly $3.5mm left on this season plus $16.8mm over the next 2. That will be eating into our cap beyond Kidd's current deal.

I don't believe we are buying him out. I think that's why Wright is in the deal.

1/2 months, doesn't equate to 3 years; nor are you going to find a perfect teammates ever. There is always bound to be tense for 1 reason or another when you spend that might time with people. Imagine working 8/10 hours a day w/ someone, traveling w/ them, and then even sharing a room 10 feet down the hall.

I'm not gonna put more stock in what Dave D said then the guys who spent time w/ Kidd on and off the court.

I have to say I think this has been brewing for over a year. When the Nets started 2006 season like crap and it later came out about the Kidd divorce. Then the Laker stuff was rumored. He's been wanting out since the divorce. He's passive aggressive and he wants to be as far away from Joumana as possible. I don't think he even cares that it moves him away from his kids. He wants a new start.

That's the point, though, Petey. You aren't saying that the assets acquired are directly going to get you there. But the Nets are acquiring a LOT of depth that has at least some value. They have a highly regarded player in Harris. They have a young guy who's close to averaging a double double without having more than one or two plays a game run for him (Boone). They have another very young PG prospect who showed great flashes as a rookie but has had trouble as a sophmore because of injury, confidence, judgment, and PT problems. But he still will draw interest as a true PG prospect for a year or two because of the spectacular vision he has demonstrated on occasion. They traded one of the league's most ridiculed big men for a big man that at least has some tangible talents (Swift). They have one of the top 4 rookies in the 07 class and the best shotblocker to enter the league in many, many years whose potential seems to be extremely high. They have a 27 year old SF at the top of his game who is among the top 10 scorers in the league. They have a 24-year old center who, when healthy, could easily get any team 15 points and 8-10 rebounds a game and who appears finally headed to a return to form. And they still have a guy who, when healthy, is among the top 5 shooting guards in the league, as the player ratings indicate for Carter's last two weeks of play (he trails only Bryant and Wade in that period).

With the addition of the acquired draft picks and the Nets own picks, some combination of those assets could very likely be used to acquire one REAL impact player in a deal within the next year or two. Knowing that players the quality of Krstic, Boone, and Sean Williams (and possibly still including Marcus Williams) were all picked at 18 or later within the last 5 years, I still think this is at least a GOOD (if not great) trade for the Nets, not to mention the cap relief the trade brings for the next two years (assuming waivers or buyouts of some or all of the vets coming back from Dallas). It was clear from the length of time Kidd has been advertised as available that this is about as good an offer as one could have hoped for. And it's equally clear that the Nets as presently constituted are not championship contenders.

The true value of the trade may not be known for a few years. For example, if Lebron James opt out of his Cleveland contract and moves to Brooklyn with a sign and trade including some of the assets acquired in this Kidd trade (or the fruits therefrom), that's when you can finally judge it.

I don't know, many other teams didn't have the same chemistry issues. You also can't really point to the fact that other guys wanted him on their team as evidence of his value to the Nets- they're not analogous, because he'd on some level given up on his current team, in addition to the inherent overvaluing of something you want.

All that said, I usually enjoyed watching him play for this team during games, and that's about the most positive thing I can currently say about him.

And I think I got purplehaze confused with someone else.

I'm getting stuff off Mavs board that Mavs-Nets had agreement that Stack would be bought out. Cuban probalby pulled him to the side and told him to take a monthlong vacation. I think the Nets made out ,but if buying out Stack was part of it....then boy, that's going to be about 7 million stuck on the cap through 2010. Thorn's gambling that at least the 2010 pick will be a 20-25 area if not better. it's a good gamble considering that Cuban has said he would give Kidd that 20 million extension, taking him through 2010 at the age of 37....that's about 50 million committed to their big 3 and what another 12 million to Damp/Terry each? I think that pick will be 25 or better in 2010.

Wow. Just thinking about the potential of what could happen as a result of this trade is getting me excited.

Although IMO there's a 10% chance of Lebron coming here, everything else stated sounds great, and really realistic.

Nah man it sucks! but I was waiting for it to happen. When Stro got traded to NJ I wished Kidd would stay but I knew he wanted out...

As for Harris passing ability, I don't think it's great...we'll see but he's definitly a good baller.

My thinking is actually the complete opposite. There are tons of teams build around depth that have faltered and can't upgraded to trade for an impact player. Look at the Bulls of the past few years. The Grizzles past few years. It's hard to move for a impact player while at times 1 will fall into your lap (Gasol/Lakers; Carter/Nets).

While Thorn made solid late picks, he has made poor picks in the 1st third of the draft, and later parts too.

What you are talking about is a bunch of 'what ifs'. Moving quality parts for a bunch of 'what ifs' doesn't excite me.

i would hope swift could get in that rotation, swift >>>> diop, the only thing diop has on him is size, and as long as the opposing center isn't huge stro should certainly get time over diop.

If they buy out Stack, it probably won't be because they wanted to, they'd probably rather keep him, but it would likely be a condition of the trade that the Mavs otherwise may not have agreed to it. At least that's what I believe.

Not a huge fan of the deal and that is only because Stack's contract does not expire. If it did, then this would have been a steal. I wish Thorn tried including a 3rd team to include an expiring deal for Stack and maybe that 2010 pick.

Good riddance to Kidd though. Harris is only 24. Kidd is 35. Its ironic and funny, I hung out with Harris at a Gamestop convention over a year ago. He seemed like a nice enough guy. A little naive; he kept asking to meet Bill Gates. We talked and I let him know I was a Nets fan. He was surprised and cracked "they exist??". Little did I know that he would soon end up running my favorite team.

While fair to call him that off the court, his behavior on the court in any uniform after his 1st go around w/ the Mavs is pretty unfair. Look at the guys what want to play w/ the guy, and the list of guys that wanted their team to trade for him just the past 2 years.

What happens on the court reflects what happens in the lockerroom, too. That's one reason this was the best they could get for him. I can't believe I'm agreeing with purplehaze about something. I refer you to Dave D's recent trashing of Kidd.

1/2 months, doesn't equate to 3 years; nor are you going to find a perfect teammates ever. There is always bound to be tense for 1 reason or another when you spend that might time with people. Imagine working 8/10 hours a day w/ someone, traveling w/ them, and then even sharing a room 10 feet down the hall.

I'm not gonna put more stock in what Dave D said then the guys who spent time w/ Kidd on and off the court.

So the question I have is, assuming the way you feel about his history with the nets and the way I feel about his history with the nets is somewhat representative, does he get booed or cheered when he returns? My prediction is that he gets cheered, with a few wack jobs like myself swearing at him from the nosebleed section.
