Yes, the title of this post may have been ripped off (in a very corny fashion) from the UPS commercials. However, in my opinion, the question is very valid. What can Outlaw do for us? What can Travis Outlaw do for the Portland Trail Blazers this season? Reading his twitter updates he seems incredibly focused and ready to go to work. This is great news for Blazer fans. What’s the source of this motivation? The fan in me wants to think after failing somewhat miserably as the X-Factor in the playoffs, he never wants to feel that type of feeling again. The hoop knowledge in me says that Mr. Outlaw knows that this is THAT year for him: the contract year. As Ben from Blazer’s Edge so aptly pointed out, Outlaw wants that Beastie Boys, Intergalactic money. And he knows this is his year to do it. Even though the free agent market may not be as lucrative as it would have been, this is his chance for security.

And that’s where my inner debate begins............................

As I said in another post, when Blazer management drafted 2 guys who are known for toughness, I think the message was sent. Hell Frye was just plain sent packing. The team knows it will not make it any further unless players toughen up. The drafting of Pendergraph and Cunningham should have sent a very striaght forward message to Travis. Toughen up. If he does that, great. But I wouldn't even bet my lunch on it.

Hopefully Outlaw comes back better and more consistent! Doesn't seem like the type to fade after he gets his money either, but I think he's playing for a contract somewhere else.

Fade from what? Being an average player at best? That would just be farging sad. The guy takes 5 years to become an average player and then gets a contract and fades to below average? The consistency argument really only holds water in the scoring department. He has always been one of those players where if he isn't scoring, he isn't worth a shit out on the floor.

Wow your a dick!

Who's to say that dog isn't gonna grow into those legs and be the best darn baller around...??? Sometimes the late bloomer passes up most in the end anyway. . Everyone's hate is just fueling his motivation, I think he'll come around to be one of the Top 10 bench players in the league!

PS those Weimaraner dogs are $$$

one of the highest scoring bench guys in the league and hit quite a few game winning shots/plays for us. on a decent salary...if he plays well he might get a good contract, but i don't think he'll go all theo ratliff on the team he's on.

He can chuck.

He can gun.

He can shoot off ballanced jumpers

He can break down our offense

He can be constantly out of place on defense

Maybe he can play like it's a contract year, start rebounding like he should, and improve his trade value? Would that make you happy big guy? :pimp:

Yes and no. Delighted to see the effort, but disgusted that he only brought it in a contract year.

Plus all of the bleeding hearts proclaiming him arrived....after 7 years in the league

I think he has been in the league for six years . . . and he really didn't play much his first two years. In fact Oden played more last year than Outlaw did in his first two years combined . . . and for a season Outlaw didn't play as many minutes as Oden did until his 4th year (and Oden didn't play a heck of alot of minutes).

So it might have taken Outlaw longer to "arrive" (assuming he has arrived) . . . but he wasn't given much opportunity to get PT until 2 seasons ago.

I was speaking after this next season, so 7 years.

Maybe he didn't play much because he sucked.....if I remember correctly.

Oden has had a much better impact on the game than Travis ever has.

What can Outlaw do for me? The same thing most celebrities can do for their entourage... get them laid!

He's a quintuple threat!

That would make me happy. I want max trade value for Outlaw, whatever that may be. But I want him traded STAT!

Maybe . . . although I see a trend . . . the more minutes Outlaw plays in a season, the more wins the Blazers have.

Must be coincidence. :D

I think Batum is the best SF we have. If you can get another team to take Webster, I'd be okay with keeping TrOut. But TrOut is not good at playing PF, he doesn't rebound well or box out well. We need to develop Penderham at our back up PF. From this basis, TrOut or Webster must go!

I don't think it is. I think the same could be said about Shavlik and Ruffin. Those two were the reason we won 54 games.

The same can not be said about the other two. Travis can say that since the begining of his NBA career, he has played more minutes each season and each season his team wins more games . . . and that is not because he has only played for 2-3 season. He can say that and has been plyaing for 6 seasons. (I wonder how many other players can say that)

I'm not saying Travis is this great player. But when you said he didn't get much time because he sucks . . I simply pointed out that the more time he gets a season, the more his team wins . . . one would think if he sucks he would either get less time each year or the more time he gets the worse his team does because he sucks. In fact it is the opposite.

I do think much of this is the circumstances and not Travis . . .

LOL at much of it. I would say all of it.

Also, Travis' first 3 years, our win total actually went down as his playing time went up. Only the arrival of Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge caused our win totals to go up. Until this last year, we had never made the playoffs with Outlaw on our team.

He can go away. That would be the best thing he could do for us.

He's our third best player on the team!

the young Blazers, with Travis covering the backup forward positions, are already arguably the top rebounding club in the league. It's true that he doesn't get a lot of boards, but is his play really hurting that effort to an unacceptable level? When he's on offense he's usually well outside the key (and rebounding position) attacking from the wing. While he doesn't collect boards this way he does draw his man out of the key allowing teammate guards to swoop in and collect the loose balls. On D they usually put him on perimeter players too.

He's effective sometimes and far from perfect overall. He's also dirt cheap. If he leaves as a FA after next year I doubt it's nearly as easy to replace his contributions as some here contend.

He can share his marshmallows with the kids on gameday, since he's soft and all and marshmallows are soft and all and he is probably made of enough soft stuff to dish some out and all. You know.
