You're right, people are smart enough to know something is wrong, but they're not educated enough on the subject to make a decision on how to fix it.

Similarly, we can see something is wrong with our government when nobody wants Net Neutrality to end, but the FCC just does it anyway. So what do people do? They write letters that fall on deaf ears. They march in the streets. What does that accomplish? Nothing.

Recognizing that there is a problem is important, but understanding how to actually fix the problem requires knowledge and action in the right direction. Blindly calling for change doesn't fix anything. Look where that got us? We have arguably the worst President in the history of our country because people were blindly calling for change, any change, and he fed them what they wanted to hear. How is that "change" working out for us?

While I mostly agree with you, I don’t think one needs to be an expert to voice their opinion and hopefully get people whom they respect (theoretically) to actually be the experts and work on accomplishing something. You may disagree, but there are many experts who condone more gun legislation to curtail gun violence. If dumbo-Bob thinks banning all guns is a legit option he is very wrong (at least at this point in time) however his voice can be added to mine and others to maybe get some actual modest but beneficial and worthwhile actions accomplished. Dumbo-bob is still signaling to his representatives that he wants action and will hopefully vote accordingly. Maybe dumbo-bob ain’t that dumb.

This seems kind of drastic when the legal age to enter the military is 18. So we can trust an 18 year old with a tank.... or a grenade launcher.... but not a hunting rifle.

We trust them with training and structure, just as I recommend for those who are 18-25 with guns. I don’t want them to be incapable of ownership but I do want them to have to go through firearm training with an instructor that has to sign off, and possibly Sheriff/doctor/therapist/clergy, Simone whom we task with assessing the mental state.

I joined at 17. by the age of Nik Cruz I'd been promoted 3x, was leading Marines overseas and earned an appt to the Academy. Then I signed for custody of literally tons of nuclear warheads . at age 35 I was sent to Helmand to run around getting "info " from locals. I've never been arrested, have 1 speeding ticket, never used illegal drugs, have a pretty sweet security clearance and get a background check pretty damn frequently. I am a grad of advanced marksmanship courses in the military and some other interesting gov't work.
And I couldn't buy a pistol in CA. Your laws do not have the effect you intend or think they do.

very good but you probably also weren't posting on social media about shooting up high schools...age doesn't translate to maturity at the same rate for a lot of young folks. Accomplishments for young people are healthy...lost souls don't have that to form the same values sadly too often

I had military orders stating I'd moved to CA, a WA license, a military ID card, proof of residency (utility bills, etc), my weapons training qualification. Everything except a CA DL. They threatened to call the cops if I didn't leave their store.

It's the weird kid who is on prescription drugs for depression or ADHD or some other kind of mental illness. Let's not paint these people as though they're living in a perfectly happy little life until one day they snap. They usually suffer from bullying and/or an abusive home. These kids should be very easy to pick out and focus on. The most recent kid was already known as a threat. He had been reported to the FBI. We all knew these kinds of kids in school. I knew several kids that were horribly picked on because they were weird, and school shootings were fairly new when I was finishing high school, but those would be the kids that would bring a gun to school now.

The law not working correctly would be if it said you had to have a Cali license but they sold you a gun when you didn't have one.

If the law says you have to have a license in that state then that's the law. Not sure you not following the law is a strike against California.

Bad person steals gun from good person.

Bad person shoots up school.

No amount of background checks and safety precautions can stop someone from stealing a gun if they really want one.

There are safety precautions to stop the "bad person" from stealing a gun. I personally don't even have a gun, but I have a safe. That is an easy requirement to own a firearm, in my eyes.

That's not the law:

27540. A dealer, whether or not acting pursuant to Chapter 5
(commencing with Section 28050), shall not deliver a firearm
to a person, as follows:

...

(c) Unless the purchaser, transferee, or person being loaned
the firearm presents clear evidence of the person’s identity
and age to the dealer.

The CA DL meets the law. Then again, so does my federal military ID. There should be no reason for anyone in CA not to sell me a weapon. But these guys didn't, and threatened police action when I was pointing out that they weren't applying the law properly. They didn't follow the laws, b/c they thought they were following the intent of the law.

They had video of the kid playing and posing with a handgun. You cant buy a pistol until 21. So apparently gun laws didnt stop him, or even give the fbi probable cause to search him. Yeah, more laws will help!

For your continued education, bump stocks merely attempt to replicate a basic manual operation of a semi-automatic firing mechanism.

Anyone, with minimal practice, can manually outperform a bump stock's purpose of speedier firing.

I remember when i first got the high capacity mags for the ruger 10 .22 and went to the woods to blow off some rounds. I set up a target about 50 yards out and just emptied a bunch of mags for the fun of it. Ranger showed up within minutes to make sure it wasnt automatic. We both lol'd when he saw what i was shooting.

There's a big difference between a teacher or employee of the school having a gun in their room etc to defend themselves in case the shooter comes in the room and the same person chasing down the shooter throughout the school and getting in a gun battle. There is no easy answer to this problem. Trump saying it would stop or they wouldn't even try it because a teacher has a pistol is beyond insane. They usually want or at least know their going to die.

soooo this school had an armed guard, trained and ready to go with his weapon and when the shooter was inside killing kids he couldn't muster up the courage to go in. BUT - I am sure teachers who have no background or experience with a firearm would be ideal candidates to handle this situation.
