Oden's defensive fouls were well deserved.
Star players make a lot more impact in the NBA than in the NFL or MLB. Stern is not the only reason for lack of parity, it's just the nature of the game.
I don't hate Stern, but I'm not really that big of a fan of his either. I think his handling of the Donaghy situation of the lack of openness with regards to the refs are his biggest detractors. But all in all, a good run for the game.
How was it in the 80s?
Once Isiah Thomas, Dr. J, Bird, Magic, and MJ showed up......it took off.
The Doctor was 70s bro.
Do you guys know how bad the NBA was in the late 70's was?
Brain cramp...... thinking about those early 80s Sixer teams that were my favorite team other then the Blazers.
Not really, Why don't you tell us?
A lot of admitted cocaine use all around the league..... continued on into the early 80s. Also the TV deal was non existent. Finals games were tape delayed and cut short. No money was being made off of merch. Not a well run business. Stern, whether you like him or not turned that shit around.
By essentially copying the WWF.
Is that a good or bad thing?
Well, it just means it's entertaining...... but fake.
Serious question, why do you watch then, if you honestly believe it's all fake and fixed?
Options of stuff to do? Yeah, we have plenty of things to do here. And you can watch all sorts of sports on tv and online. I don't get why someone would follow a sport if they thought it was all fixed. It makes no sense to me.We don't exactly have a lot of options in Portland, do we?
I dislike Stern's arrogance. He always acts like such a cocky prick!

For readers here who wonder how Stern directs referees, influencing game outcomes, I linked to an article a few months ago in which the League Office said they would have the Chief of Referees go over some issue in his daily briefing which he gives to all his subordinates (by phone, fax, e-mail, whatever). This is how they trickle down the daily marching orders to refs as to how to call the games of that day.
Millions of Americans watch wrestling, knowing it's scripted. No one is saying the NBA games are scripted, just that referees know which players are on the League Office's shit list, and which preferred teams would make the League more money if they won a playoff series.
