What do you even do at this point?

Blazer fans unite. Pussies can go to the spurs board and swing from their nuts.

I've been bewildered at how Stotts hasn't even given Freeland a chance this series. It must be because he actually plays defense and we can't have any of that going around.

Stotts has been quoted as saying "Defense is a hell of a drug. I run a drug-free environment around here."

I plan to drink beer right until the bitter end. Nobody calls me a quitter.

I don't think it's just us. San Antonio has been shooting out of their minds. That's impossible to beat unless we shoot outof our minds too. We made a run in the second half because San ANtonio finally started missing. We didn't do anything different. They just stopped making every shot. Our only hope over the next four games is that their shooting comes back to earth. It's happened before (2011). And as El Presidente pointed out, the Spurs choked last year so there is a choking gene inside them. But we have to shoot well. Lillard should come out really aggressively. Look to score right away, build a lead and confidence.

I love that we aren't Blazer fans because some of us see little hope after leading in the entire series for a grand total of 33 seconds

What is there to lose by having hope? It hurts too much if we lose? Suck it up and have hope! Go Blazers. Believe harder.

I hear Meyers can make a lot of 3 pointers. Why not send him out there to jack up 3s, if he's hot, he might score 100 points.

If we found someway to stop "respecting" the spurs and start playing as hard physically as we did against Houston that would help. It honestly seems like we respect the spurs to much to try and physically overpower them and lay them on their ass.
Id like Parker/Leonard to get laid out when they drive into the paint. If there going to score given them a bruise for each point they score.

Un-fettered shooting. That's really the only edge the Spurs have had all series. We've taken a hands-off approach to defense. I've never seen anything like it before. Sure, they've been allowed unlimited use of moving picks on defenders and grabbing and shoving and bumping shooters, but the counter to that is knocking people down. Hard. Repeatedly. It's expected.

No team shoots well when they're being pushed around. I think this series has proven that.

Go big. 5 minutes of Barton/Nic/TRob/Joel/Rolo. Hit some people. Inflict pain. If nothing else, it would make them feel better.

I say put in Meyers to lay some wood on people. Just tell him to start swinging elbows.

I think Freeland is more injured than has been let on. He messed his knee up pretty bad.

The team is just not deep enough. Our bench, especially with Mo out, is really really bad.

This isn't news to anyone, but it IS something that can be improved in the offseason--Portland can use salary exceptions to sign solid players to flesh out the bench and/or younger guys like McCollum will improve.

The hard part is getting star-level players and starter-level guys... Portland has that.

Unfortunately, even if we add two solid guys to help with the bench next year, I don't think we'll have the kind of luck we did with (lack of) injuries this year.

Ed O.

We actually have some incredible physical talent on our bench, and nobody who can't become an NBA starter at some point.

We just don't have a coach who has any interest in developing players. Stotts is the offensive version of McMillan. Both coaches have tunnel vision and neither one wants to be a teacher. Neither one will ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Popovich.

If we traded benches with the Spurs today, in 4 years their bench would be their starters and ours would be on other teams or out of the league.

It's not so much the losing, but the getting blown out that's hard to swallow. It's pretty fucking sobering about where we are as a team.
Which is still way WAY better than most thought during training camp.

IMO we have 2 options. Overhaul the D, or bolster the Bench. Assuming we stick with Stotts it would be futile to put a lot of emphasis on defensive players as the players abilities wouldn't be maximized. Also our team wasnt the worst defensive team in the NBA, just about average middle of the road... but we did have the least productive bench in the NBA.
"Assuming?" Why would there be even a smidgeon of a shadow of a sliver of doubt?

Change the PnR defense. Go under on Parker more often, make him into a LONG jump shooter, not mid range jump shooter. Also, if you're going over, Robin's going to have to start showing on it or they'll just continue to make us look like idiots on it.

Every time Parker goes around a screen, the screener's defender becomes Parker's defender!!!

Run Parker through and into a shitload of Przybilla-esque screens. If you wear him out on D, maybe it'll impact his O.

Our screens are terrible. That offensive foul that Robin got for just wrapping his hands around the defender.. I don't understand what he was doing. That was ridiculous.

Robin hasn't been doing anything on PnR defense either. He literally is playing like I do at the local park, just stand in the key and wait for a miss. He doesn't even contest Duncan if they pass to him for a mid range shot. This is the second round against the best team in the league. You fucking kidding me?

Robin has to go out to Parker, Aldridge too! Agreed about not giving Duncan an open jumper - that's supposedly a "good shot" for us but it will be a MUCH BETTER shot if contested!!!

Yeah, it's terrible. But it's clearly what he's been coached to do.

The reason Robin doesn't 'show' on the screen is probably the same reason Stotts has him backing up toward the basket any time someone dribbles into the key area, thus leaving players wide open for mid-range jump shots. I guess they don't think he's quick enough to recover. On Saturday there was one play in particular where Robin needed to go out and challenge the ball handler, but he just kept backpedaling until (I forget who, not Parker), just pulled up and made an uncontested 12 footer. It's maddening.

Don't get me wrong. I love Robin. He's been great for us and a life saver. He's a perfect fit for the team and the city. But he does have serious deficiencies in his game. For example, he gets his hands on seemingly dozens of rebounds a game that opponents just take away from him, I guess because he can't jump two inches. And I don't think he can 'show' and recover on a screen.

This is why some fans insist he would be a great backup and we need an upgrade. However, the chance that we could get a center better than Lopez is effectively nill. So we live with who he is, and like it. :)

Yeah, I was giving him shit at home too in front of my fiance. He puts his arm outward, but not upward. It's like "hey dude, your 7 feet tall, RAISE YOUR FUCKING ARMS!!" hahaha.

re: the screens. We don't set them close enough to the defender. They have ample time to work their way around them, that's why ours suck. They're half-assed screens.

It's not just Robin who does this backpedaling, it's Lamarcus too! You can't give the player room to charge until he decided to pull up for an uncontested jumper (because the defender is going backwards).

Robin Lopez is doing exactly as he's coached to do. Don't blame him

It's the philosophy that's shit

The fact that Stotts can't make one meaningful adjustment is the worse thing about it.
