Last five games he had played 23min or more. He has moments but I’m not sure if it’s enough to stick in the NBA, let alone play meaningful minutes on a decent team. But I like him, he’s cheap and doesn’t fuck up at much other than scoring.

What do you think? What will he become now that he’s getting tanking minutes?

He works hard and gets boards and assists. Great hops and good length. His FT shooting is good and his passing shows nice flashes too. needs a bit of work on his shot. I say he's showing himself to be a good utility player that can guard multiple positions.

Love the kid, turning into a nice passer, great effort, D seems improved, if he could only shoot with any consistency

His story is not written yet, but it's not looking good.

Qualitative:
He has definitely improved, plays hard, and is unselfish - a good fit for Billup's system. He also can play multiple positions, and rebounds well. But, right now, he just doesn't put enough pressure on the opponents. If he continues to improve, he might become a Steve Blake-level player. We'll see.

Quantitative:
He's shooting 30.4 3fg% this year (career 26.7%) - that's not going to cut it. Frankly NBA average (35 %) is still not good enough when combined with his other abilities. If he can get up to 37 3fg%, he's better better than a "replacement player". Right now, he's definitely not. It's not obvious he's going to get there.

Comp:
Let's compare him to Aminu. Aminu shot 33.2 3fg% for his career, and he was left WIDE open. Discounting shooting, Aminu brought a lot more to the table that CJE does. Aminu's played 41 games in the last 3 years. Idk if he's injured, or if the NBA has given up on him.

come on now, look whay happened to Pat C. CJ could be a contributor like Pat if he keeps working. he aint winning awards but for a low salary he isnt blevins or hezonja bad IF he keeps working at his shot

His NBA career or as a Sideshow Bob impersonator for Simpsons on Ice?

I really want Elleby to succeed, because he's clearly a bright kid and is busting his ass to make winning plays, not just to make himself look good. But... he can't shoot worth a damn (although I have seen him hit threes in the last two games) and he always looks a bit... hapless. He looks like a dog that's been kicked too much. He doesn't look like HE thinks he belongs. He looks worried and a bit sad all the time. He needs to get in a few fights or something. Stare somebody down.

Any time he does something worthwhile it looks like it was done coincidentally. Rather than by skill.

Not a lot. If the Blazers accomplish anything with their resources in the offseason, he's going to be pressed to make it back on the team, and I don't know that there are a lot of teams out there looking for someone like him because there isn't a lot of upside. He's the type of player that might stand to make more money overseas, and I think that's probably where he has a nice career.

He will be in the league 5-10 years from now. The kid lives and breaths bb and his energy and ability to rebound and push the ball is nice. He's the kind of player that gets under the opposing teams skin.

I think he'll become a world traveler--Europe, China, perhaps the G League.

He won't be on the active roster next year.

Not very high hopes, but the kid has a nose for the ball.
He's always where the action is.
Good instincts, just maybe not the talent to capitalize.
Sounds like a future coach!

He is a 3 and D player without the 3. It is possible that he can improve in that area, but it is not looking good. This summer is critical for him.

He's going to improve, and he does a few things well now. Who knows? Maybe he turns into Tayshaun playing for billups.

Not a fucking thing

I expect him to be gone next season

I expect like most young players that have come through our team over the last 10 years, for everyone to write him off, and then have him go on to be an ok role player in the league.

I think if he puts the time in, works hard, and keeps his nose clean, Arby's will promote him to manager after a couple of years.

barfo

I expect him to be out of the league in a few years.

There are plenty of young guys who have came through Portland in the last 10 years that are no longer in the league.
