thats everybody in the world :/ every second that passes we get older....

You do know his salary will escalate as he grows older, right? 17mil in the 4 year. He'll be 34. Who knows how his health will be then.

thats fine... we were goin to pay kid at 35 almost 20 mill and 36 at 21+ mill... and we cant pay VC who is the most talented player on our team 17 mill at 33? i think he deserves it. look i kno what your saying but VC still has a lot left. he just seems like he doesnt care, but we shall see the rest of this season and in the playoffs (CROSSES FINGERS) if we make it

ya exactly, so i think its ok we pay carter that amount... still a bargain to me
but only time will tell...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MyNetsForLife @ Mar 17 2008, 10:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>So, because we made a mistake, we should repeat it?</div>

do you honestly feel that vc at 60 mill / 4 yrs is a mistake? i mean where we STAND right now... do you think its a mistake? how much do u think he deserves or what contract lenght/amount should we signed him for?

also come his 4th year at 17 mill, and hes not performing he could be used as a trading chip... for a team lookin for CAP room

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MyNetsForLife @ Mar 17 2008, 10:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>At the market at which he was a FA?
Hell yes, total over payment.</div>

who would you have gone after to replace him with?

i mean i dont kno what happened in the talks between rod and his agent... i think rod was afraid that if he low balled him or offered him 4yr at 50 mill he woulda gone elsewhere and then we woulda had to counter offer at like 4 year 65-68 mill

just my rational for why they ended up with the figure of 4yr/60 mill... i dont think Rod Thorn is an idiot... he knows what hes doing... i have faith in thorn and always will

well some of the guys didnt pan out... but they had good resumes coming into NJ

heh i still believe he deserved it... sorry... remember come 33yr old at 17 mill he can be a great trading chip cuz of the expiring contract.... lots of teams would jump on that

It's not a matter of whether he deserved it. We needed Vince on this team (keep in mind the context of keeping the big three together), and I think we still need him (he's still our best offensive weapon with RJ who cannot carry the team by himself). However, THRON could have offered Vince a much lower contract that would have been the highest amount given by any team in the NBA

very well stated... i agree... hehe but i still love VC

lol... true... but also at 17 mill it can be for a few players

i agree at the time we still needed VC... we still had championship hopes at the time with the "big 3" and krstic coming back. we thought we coulda signed a couple of free agents like allen and armstrong and compete again for a championship again. it was until our horrible start and then jason kidd starting to quit on us when VC started looking like a bad sign because we are now in rebuilding mode and VC doesn't fit that category especially with his big long term contract. But as earlier stated... at the time we had different plans and hopes when we re-signed him. I still don't mind having VC as he still makes us more entertaining to watch... and if we do move to brooklyn(god i hope we do) he's one of those type of players that will draw fans to watch us play. he still averages 20-5-5 so i don't know why he shouldn't deserve what he gets paid. joe johnson averages about the same and i believe his contract is similar and there are alot of other players who have worse contracts... so we could be in a even worse situation such as ben wallace who i believe is way overpaid... and other players who are injury prone like j'oneal.

as for the move to brooklyn im all for it because im a die hard nets fan. i want us to attract more fans, more players, more sponsors, better arena, and of course the whole prospect of lebron james. I want ppl to want to play for new jersey, well brooklyn... just like how all these players USE to want to play for the knicks just because of the fans... the arena... and how it is to play at the garden. seems like management is trying too hard to try and get fans right now... when the fans should be coming to us.

I rather talk about Nets' players being paid what they are worth rather than how they're contracts aren't as bad as some other bums around the league.

I love the Spurs roster. Never hear about one of those guys being overpaid. Parker $10.5mm, Ginolbli $9mm. Bowen $4mm. Yeah you have Duncan at $19mm and worth every cent. Pretty cool how they get quality guys to sign on for non-max money. Hope the Nets can get to that someday. Since it was VC's 2nd contract you would think it was do able this time.

how do you know how much u pay someone and know what they are worth unless you compare it to other people in the league. from comparing yes we know he's overpaid, but on the bright side... it could be worst. but at the time when we needed him to maintain our core, it was the obvious choice to re-sign him. did we need to give him a max contract? who knows... but for someone to average what he did last season... its hard to disagree that he didn't deserve it. it only really seems like a really bad contract right now because we are in a rebuilding mode.
