Sergio Rodriguez's happiness was clearly shown at the press conference where he announced his decision to leave Portland Trail Blazers and move to Sacramento Kings ahead of NBA 2009/10.

"After a poor participation at my former club, I'm now going upwards, so I hope to play more," said Rodriguez and added, "I want to work hard to go back to the national team."

"I'm just 23 years old and I'm having a moment of great illusion in my career due to all these changes, such as the signing for the new franchise, and because I've already overcome a bad patch after leaving Canarias," the guard said in high spirits.

apparently he got his hands on bad marijuana while in Portland.
 
For me, I thnk Sergio was given ample opportunity to out right win either the starting PG spot or be the solid back up. He simply failed to take them. He is excellent in the open court and plays up tempo at all times. But his passes became very predictable and he didn't adjust well. His shot & defense were erratic. All in all he has some potential, but he failed to realize it here.
 
Isn't he basically going to the same situation he was stuck in her in Portland? stuck in a rotation with a super athletic rookie combo guard and so-so, to fair starting point guard who should probably be a backup? He might get more minutes, but my guess is that he's going to have a hard time beating out Udrih, and the Kings are going to want to give Evans as much development time as possible. :dunno:
 
I hope he gets a chance down there and plays well.
 
He'll do well in Sacramento. I bet he is top-3 in the league in assists by the end of next season.

That was likely a result of him not playing big minutes for us. If your club team doesn't play you, then why would your national team play you? There was also some management politics involved, since he only lost his national team spot when they changed their head coach who liked Rubio.

He has to overcome being the 3rd best PG on his team first.

Yes, agreed. Although in truth it was somewhat his decision - if he'd said he was happy being a backup and just wanted to contribute where he could, he'd still be a blazer.

And of all starting point guards, he'll have the lowerst FG percentage - probably hovering around 38% from the field. :devilwink:

Sergio just needs to find the right fit, and he could stick in this league. But he could also see his career end quickly if he gets saddled in another slow-down system or is not given a chance.

The guy throws one hell of a lob to Rudy though.
