So what does NY and Chicago do when they come up empty in the free agency sweepstakes?

Suppose Lebron and Bosh were to sign with New Jersey, and Wade, Boozer and Amare all re-sign with their previous teams?

?

These are two of the largest NBA markets. How does the NBA fair?

I believe the phrase is schadenfreude - and lots of it.

Their fans will be disappointed.

Clearly some teams are going to lose out, since they can't all get LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Those teams will over pay for a guys like Johnson, Miller, Allen, etc.

They will have a TON of money to throw at mediocre players.

I think Stern would crap his drawers. Remember back to the very first NBA Lottery....and how the (Patrick Ewing) ping pong balls just happened to drop NY's way?

I won't be surprised to hear that Lebron chooses the Knicks (along with Bosh), and Wade goes to Chicago!

Travis Outlaw with a match contract here we come.

Wait until next year when Melo is free?

If the Knicks don't land one of the big three FA's, I say we push them for a trade of Rudy and JPEC for Lee and their number one pick. This assures us a top 3 pick in the 2011 draft, gets us a productive big, and NY will have all the room in the world to pursue Mello in a year. Not to mention that insurance will pay for Joel.

We could then trade LMA, Bayless and Camby for CP3 and Okafor.

Paul/Miller
Roy/
Batum/Cunningham/Reno Rook
Lee/Pendergraph
Oden/Okafor

NY's number 1 pick next year

I don't think they'd even accept that trade on NBA Live 2010

Lee's a free agent. This trade buys them huge cap space for next year...with insurance paying the tab! Essentially, it costs them their 2011 draft pick for huge cap space. And they get Rudy.

too good to be true, they need to do something so we all stop speculating and start complaining about the move they made.

Lee is an unrestricted free agent... trading for Joel makes no sense.

I start a multi-page rant on Imaginary Cap Space.

If Chicago strikes out on the big fish I think they'll land Boozer. He's a great fit there next to Noah.

the suns more or less cut ties with stoudemire by refusing to offer 5 years and then signing warrick when amare balked. odds of him returning are pretty low.

i think it is also unlikely boozer signs with the jazz since they have millsap ready to go.

of all the teams with cap space the bulls have the best remaining intact talent, so it is extremely unlikely they wouldn't end up with at least one of the top 5 names.

can't trade consecutive 1sts...

Yeah they can.

Once this year's pick is done, they can trade next year's, even if this year's was traded. They can't trade next year and the year after's before next year's draft.

looks like the Knicks are going to sign amare to a max deal, so is essence they lose.....

Sure it does. If they want mega space for next year, they take on JPEC and get Rudy in a S&T of Lee. Insurance pays for joel, so they get Rudy...and 2011 space for their pick.

Having Joel and then losing him doesn't give them any more cap space next summer than if they never have him at all. Cap space isn't reliant on who you've lost, just who you have.

Bulls have to sign at least 12 players and pay the minimum salaries. An expiring contract is a good thing.

We're talking about NY, not CHI. C'mon Denny, keep up.

I don't know what they do, but Denny wonders why Luol Deng failed to get LeBron James and Dwyane Wade is a three way sign-and-trade...half of Deng going to Cleveland, half of Deng going to Miami. It's totally fair and makes sense for all teams involved.
