Politics What Immigrants Think About Trump's Wall

California will license undocumented residents (to drive) but doesn't force them to get insurance. It seems likely that most if not nearly all do not have insurance.

I'd love to see that addressed - figure out how they can get insured.

And remember, that's assuming that 100% of them who drive, do so uninsured.

Well, you can start by telling us how and illegal gets car insurance that is valid without a drivers license which is only issued to legal residents.

Then you can you explain why it is a solid idea to increase the risk of being hit by and uninsured by adding millions of uninsured drivers.

None of what you're saying changes what i said. You have a better chance of being hit by an uninsured "American" than an uninsured "illegal".

Speaking of California, didn't they just pass a law that will allow anyone with a drivers license over 18 to vote starting in April? So hypothetically, illegals could vote...

I have lived in San Diego and before that I visited frequently.

There used to be signs on the highway that goes to Mexico. Beware people crossing. Highly unusual for a 70MPH freeway. The signs were warning people to watch out for "illegal" immigrants who were coming in and might be crossing the road.

Today, those signs are gone and there's a wall. There was no wall then.
There could be an impact or there could be a shift out of view. If we put up an impediment to crossing at point A, does that result in fewer crossings or a shift to crossing at point B-Z. Likely both to some degree. But to people who live close to point A, the impediment will appear to be a huge success. In actuality the success might be minute or inconsequential but often appearances are all that matter to politicians or the public.

If the wall that Trump is talking about establishing is built, how many of the folks who would have crossed in that section will instead go to an unwalled or crossable fence section, tunnel , fly or boat or drive instead. Sure, all those areas could be impacted too, but at what price?

Purely anecdotal, but the vast majority of my Hispanic clients support the wall. I was very surprised by that revelation but they said they came to this country for a reason and didn't want the drug czars and criminal elements following them to this country. They felt much safer here and with more opportunity and didn't want that ruined. They do want people to come here like they did....legally. People who want to assimilate, become citizens, obey the law and make a better life for them and their families.

I don't think the border could be made impenetrable, but I do think the wall would reduce immigrants' ability to cross. It has to. The walls in existence already have done so.

San Diego has a heavy Navy presence (and Marines). I saw border control helicopters flying along the coast constantly. They're there, I assume, to catch any boats with people trying to get into the country.

But as I said earlier, all you need is a passport and to say "I'm visiting friends" or "I'm going shopping" to get across the border. Once across, you'd just head to a sanctuary city and disappear.

What you really have to question is who the people are who won't cross that way, and why.

The wall is a stupid idea and a waste of money.....all behind the guise of hordes of criminals crossing the borders....that door swings both ways...our criminals have traditionally always headed for Mexico eh? Maybe Mexico will start deporting them as well

Where would you prefer to spend time in jail? Mexico or here?

I'm about 90% sure the guy in the op's post is a meme created in 2015? something like that.

you don't understand how Mexico works for people with big bucks I'm guessing....

I'm guessing the police there have no problem shooting first, asking questions later. Unlike our beat cops, theirs carry machine guns.

certain cartel areas are sketchy for sure....but El Salvador is more what you're describing. You don't want to wander around East Oakland on a Saturday night either

Perhaps it is true in one of the white states in this map.

But most of the data on this is made murky during the past 10 years.
But people are catching on to the hiding the truth.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/03/3...o-quest-to-tabulate-toll-illegal-drivers.html

"As many as 7,500 Americans -- 20 per day -- are killed annually by unlicensed drivers, and Rosenberg calculates that more than half are the victims of illegal immigrants. Now, by testifying before lawmakers, speaking to parents who have been through the same ordeal and posting his research on his nonprofit’s website, unlicensedtodrive.org, Rosenberg is shedding light on a frightening number not readily available from government sources.

“Our archives are filled with stories of drunk-driving illegals killing U.S. citizens.”

Then when you get to areas like Oxnard CA, Woodburn OR where the Hispanic population is very high as is the undocumented status, it is an illogical statement.

I've been to Mexico plenty. They have these little towers along the roads where cops watch the cars go by and often stop and search. The cops carry machine guns.

It's rather scary when you go through a tunnel and see a car riddled with bullet holes at the other end and a bunch of cops with machine guns standing around.

Yep! I've been there. Not much you can say when they decide to check what you are carrying either.

Do they still shake down gringos for bribes?
Never had one of the Machine gun toting guys do it. Pueto Capitan, you bet. Fuel dock Gordo , you bet. Immigration official, you bet. The Machine gun
toting guy was right out the door or close by.
You learn to love the rule of law. Appreciating it's finer points.
