I had a great angle on that play, and I was shocked there was no call.
I also recall a play in the first half where Roy goes into Yao, while Yao is in the restricted area. Yao falls down, and no call is made. I don't think a play like that should be a foul, but Greg gets that exact call against him all the time.
You conveniently left out the most important part of the rule:
"A defender may momentarily touch an opponent with his hand anywhere on the court as long as it does not affect the opponent’s movement (speed, quickness, balance, rhythm)."
When Roy drives the lane and gets hand checked (or hip checked), it does throw off his balance and rhythm - and accoring to the rules, it's a foul.
Exactly. And what Yao does is he slips his arm underneath Pryzbilla and Oden's arms, jerking everyone's arms up in the air to make it look like they are holding him 20 feet from the basket. This is smart on Yao's end but stupid on the refs part by calling it. The defensive guys can touch Yao, but Yao ends up creating more contact by locking the Defensive guy up. End result will be early foul trouble on our bigs in game 6. It changes the whole game for us. You have to be able to play physical with Yao to stop him. Similar to what they do to Roy.
