This seems to be the main point of debate. I have been listening to any and all podcasts I can get my hands on over the past week or so.

Lowe and Hollinger think the Heat trade is fair.

Dame is almost 33. He's owed A LOT of money. He's a score-first point guard who doesn't play defense. That's the perception of Dame around the league. He's an amazing scorer, but he has his warts.

Stealing this part from @inconceivable

Cleveland get:
Donovan Mitchell

Jazz get:
Lauri Markkanen
Collin Sexton
Ochai Agbaji
3 unprotected FRPs (25, 27, and 29)
2 pick swaps (26 and 28)

------------

Suns get:
Kevin Durant
TJ Warren

Nets get:
Mikal Bridges
Cameron Johnson
Juan Pablo Vaulet
2023 first-round pick (fr Phoenix)
2025 first-round pick (fr Phoenix)
2027 first-round pick (fr Phoenix)
2028 first-round pick swap (fr Phoenix)
2028 second-round pick (fr Milwaukee)
2029 first-round pick (fr Phoenix
2029 second-round pick (fr Milwaukee)

Bucks get:
Jae Crowder

Pacers get:
George Hill
Serge Ibaka
Jordan Nwora
3 future 2nd-round picks (fr Milwaukee)
Cash considerations (from Brooklyn)

---------

Timberwolves get:
Rudy Gobert

Jazz get:
Malik Beasley
Patrick Beverley
Leandro Bolmaro
Walker Kessler (22nd pick in '22 Draft)
Jarred Vanderbilt
2023 first-round pick
2025 first-round pick
2026 pick swap
2027 first-round pick
2029 first-round pick

I don't think we can use the Gobert trade as any kind of template. Just throw that one out. I also don't think we can use the Durant trade. Dame is amazing but he's not Durant. I think the Mitchell trade is fair.

But how does the Miami offer compare to that Cleveland deal? Markkanen was pretty mediocre in Cleveland. 15 ppg and 6 rebounds per game? That's the center of the trade?

Lauri Markkanen = ???
Collin Sexton = Tyler Herro
Ochai Agbaji = garbage player
3 unprotected FRPs (25, 27, and 29)
2 pick swaps (26 and 28)

So really all we're missing from the Miami trade is a player comparable to Markkanen. If we get Ben Simmons, is that basically a similar reclamation project?

Obviously you're not a capitalist, or you'd believe that Dame's value just is what you can get for him.

Fentress said on his pod:

4 firsts
One good young player

Not exactly sure where that good young player is going to come from.

I say the Blazers advise Dame’s agent that no trade proposal from Miami meets team requirements. Also advise Dame to show up to camp. He wants to sit out? Don’t pay him his $700,000. per game! He’s acting like a spoiled brat whose loyal head got a little too big of late.

Half Dolla Dame

That's not enough. We can do much better than that.

The Heat needs Dame more than we need to trade Dame. In fact, we don't have to.

What's Dame gunna do if we don't trade him?

How's Joe gunna look like if he trade Dame for what Fentress is talking about?

Right now what Miami is offering does not include a good young player.

Jovic and Jaquez are projects, at best. Jaquez might be one of those blue collar role players but he's not even really a starter.

I think the aggravation and damage he's been trying to do to the Blazers out of pure immaturity has driven up what the Heat should compensate the Blazers. For other teams, I'd even be willing to give them a minor discount at this point.

It almost sounds flippant to say that, but it’s true. I would never have imagined that Gobert would have brought the Jazz the haul that it did last summer. As it’s turned out, it’s too bad Cronin didn’t make the move last year before Dame’s extension. The market was crazy, Dame was a year younger, and the receiving team could have worked out his contract on their own. It’s safe to say that the return would have been much greater than the Blazers will get this season. But, we’re about to find out what the market value is in the next few weeks.

Moron Mountain is willing to give up Jordan for him.

If you mean, what will another team give up to get Dame, then that depends on each team.
Detroit might give up a lot to get him.

I don't understand why people think the team getting Dame needs to be some kind of contender for them to want him.

Detroit has had one winning season since 2007 2008. Look at Sacramento. Their goal was to just make the playoffs. For Detroit to make the playoffs would be just as huge as it was for Sacramento.

so, although it seems almost everybody would disagree, I think Dames value is quite high, If you again calculate that value as what a team will give up that is important to Portland.

and forget about Detroit in particular. I am talking about a team that people consider a non-contender.

unless Miami is willing to trade Butler or Adebayo, Dame's value is low in a trade with them, even though they seem to want him badly.

the value of a Picasso isn't what I would be able to pay for it.

This is exactly how I feel.

Fuck sending him to Miami at all. Spite is a drink best served chilled.

To be fair, the Heat are trying to steal the Picasso.

I'm hoping for 4-6 unprotected picks.

2 swaps

2-3 young players

I don't think we're going to get a player of the caliber of Bridges, the Brooklyn got for Durant.

Wait it out or trade him to anyone that offers better than the alleged Miami offer
Yeah I think Joe should take the meeting with the Heat in Las Vegas that supposedly was brokered by Goodwin. If there isn't a trade offer that comes out of that meeting that makes sense, Joe should either go on record or leak through Woj that the unless trade offers get significantly better that the team expects to see Dame in camp.

I think trading Dame elsewhere would take both us and another team calling his bluff. I would love to see that happen at this point but don't know how likely it is.

I think there is a possibility that Detroit is being mentioned as a fourth team because maybe we like one or more of their young players who are on rookie contracts but that's just a guess.

It's worse. Because of all he has said. This was his actual quote:
I don't think he said those things in bad faith. I don't know for sure but I doubt he feels like he's going back on what he said. He must feel like the team switched up on him. I don't like how this is being handled at all but I don't throw out an eleven year track record based on one week, where we have two cryptic texts from Dame. Like I said, I don't like the way it's being handled and Dame is letting it be handled this way but for now this doesn't make me think he wasn't the guy we thought he was and most likely I think he still is that guy.

We do not know what has been said between Dame and the team behind closed doors. So we don't know how deep Dame might feel the betrayal goes. Everyone is free to speculate and have an opinion based on that speculation but everyone in here acting so certain about who the bad guy is in this situation is a little ridiculous to me because it's all based on speculation.
