Something that just occurred to me and putting all the pieces together could there be a deal already in place for Dame with the Sixers? Maybe Dame didn’t want to deal with everything before the Olympics and cause a media storm. It leaked about the request, and Dame wasn’t happy. So both sides agree to keep it quiet until after the Olympics.
This may just be the lack of movement getting to me but if he is traded immediatly after returning this would be my guess on how it went down.
NO builds around CJ and Simmons +.

I mentioned this In another thread but noticing all the 1 year deals I feel like Olshey talked Lillard into running with this team and Billups this year and if it doesn't work then go nuclear next offseason. I believe Blazers only have 3 players on contract after this season so they're be a lot more flexibility.
Simmons is better than you think. He had a bad series against the Hawks but he has had some sensational series for the Sixers. And guess how many playoff games they won without him in 2020? Zero. He’s the best defender in the league and a great playmaker. He has flaws but he absolutely impacts winning. In his ROOKIE year, Embiid got hurt and Simmons led them on a 16 game winning streak. Hot take: they should trade Embiid and keep Simmons. He’s that good.No to Simmons. Eww.

Powell and RoCo can hit threes. So can Snell and McLemore. Simmons HELPS us when Dame gets doubled. Dame gives the ball to Simmons and then he goes 4 on 3. In that situation, our opponents are screwed. Simmons is the best teammate Dame could have!My only concern is now Dame is getting doubled more. If we don't have 2 capable 3 point shooters then Dame is gonna have to play hero ball.
For all the defense in the world, I dont want that. Not worth it. Hard pass and no one can convince me otherwise.

You don’t want Simmons to have the ball going for 4 on 3 with the floor spread? Listen to what I’m telling you.Not convinced. Simmons can go elsewhere.
No. It's not a 4 on 3 in the fourth quarter of the playoffs because to count as an offensive threat you have to take more than one shot in 44 minutes. Dude can't shoot outside of 3 feet. Easy to rotate when you have to simply rotate to the basket. The only way he works is if you completely take the ball out of Dames hands which is silly. You don’t want Simmons to have the ball going for 4 on 3 with the floor spread? A decent coach will be able to devise an offensive scheme to take advantage of the doubles and traps teams throw at Dame.My only concern is now Dame is getting doubled more. If we don't have 2 capable 3 point shooters then Dame is gonna have to play hero ball.

I think this is a possibility.
Bobby Marks tweeted out what the luxury tax looks like for this season.
GSW- $185M
BKN- $122M
LAC- $54M (w/KL)
LAL- $36M
UTH- $29M
MIL- $29M
$9.5M distribution to the 24 teams below
With each team that goes above the tax, the non tax teams not only pay but will get a bigger distribution of tax money.
Do you really see the Blazers not only paying the tax but also giving up this distribution?
Add to that what some teams did to future drafts as well as a few others that are not paying the tax yet. Portland is not a market that can risk it all for a three year window by trading multiple years of draft picks.
NO values CJ probably more than anyone else in the league. CJ has never complained about his role. Since he has never been on an allstar or all league team, he will not trigger huge contract bumps like Lillard.
CJ/Norm/Roco/Simmons/Nurk
not paying the tax
draft capital and/or whatever else Philly gives in order to get Lillard
I could see that as our next big move and waiting until after the Olympics makes perfect sense.
Well Olshey told us that they were all in on winning and they would go as far into the tax as it takes... and Olshey always tells the truth. That being said, with as many expiring contracts as we have we could always shed enough salary at the trade deadline to get under the tax if winning all of a sudden wasn't the main goal.So if we’re 2.9 mil away from the luxury tax…we’re not gonna use the TPMLE

With Kemba bought out, I can see Neil waiting to see if the same will happen with Love in Cleveland.
that would be incredibly disappointing if we suddenly become worried about the tax. From all indications, this was the year we would be spending like mad.So if we’re 2.9 mil away from the luxury tax…we’re not gonna use the TPMLE
