What is the single greatest meal of your life?

Taking pics of your meal is also a douche move.

You definitely lose True Braj points for that. Don't be that guy.

I think this rule is true 90% of the time. But if it's something you've cooked and it is truly amazing, it's alright. But don't go bragging about it.

In my 28 restaurant California tour I learned that too many places don't do dessert well, including high end places, this one was really simple and so good.

I rarely get dessert at restaurants, but I have heard this often.

I've skipped meals for 36 hours on fasts. Scrambled eggs for breakfast afterwards with some instant coffee tastes like a goddamned orgasm.

Overall, I'd say that now that I mostly live on low-carb food, whenever I go off it I'm just amazed at how fucking delicious food is. A simple burger and fries tastes utterly astounding. But it goes away. I find that when I eat too much sugar over a period of weeks things just don't taste that remarkable anymore.

I think there are three elements to a truly great meal: Great environment, great food and a metabolic state that's really open to the experience. We focus on the first two because it's more convenient/easy (which is probably one reason we're so fat.) But hike 10 miles on a hot August day, and that Coors Light sitting in the cooler under the truck will taste better than the finest Crystal. Go 30 days with 20 carbs or less/day, and a Chips Ahoy cookie will kick the ass of anything a French pastry chef can whip up. Try a 24 hour fast and whatever you have in your fridge will be a damned buffet of goodness.

I used to hate the idea of eating healthy just because I'm a foodie and I didn't want to miss out. Now that I've switched, I realize how much I was missing out before. I used to eat a lot more and enjoy it a lot less. Good eating is as much about what you bring to the food as what the food brings to you.

I take pictures of everything. I want to recall what I ate and what I do.

I look back years and years in my archives, see a picture and it jogs back a previously forgotten memory. It can be something as simple as a popsicle, and I'll remember the context, what I was doing, etc.

This would be so cute in a nice little lifestyles blog. You can post pictures of the cleansing snack you had after an amazing yoga class.

a few here and there. the only thing I regularly post on fb are random basketball thoughts.

I have 42k photos on flickr over the last decade or so...which is what I mainly use...but mainly as an archive. I think with having better camera phones, going to get more.

So a burrito in Syria is the best meal ever, and it costs .25?

We Americans are idiots. Here I was wanting more flavors than sea salt, spices, and pepper.

I did really love schrimp scampi for Gionvanni's on NS Oahu, though. Yeah, it was fun. We were travelling and had just got down surfing. Delish!!

I just didn't "get" the shrimp trucks. not my cup of tea..they were ok i guess..but people raved on and on about them. I did like Giovanni's better than the Kahuku truck, but thought they were both overrated.

Lou Malnati's has my favorite deep dish in chicago.

cool. let's break this down now into greatest single dishes...like best Hamburger, Steak, Taco, or whatever you want.....always good to et some inspiration.

Burger: This local place called Flanny's has a breakfast burger that is a 1/2 pound of ground beef, topped with hashbrowns, a fried egg, and four slices of thick bacon a kaiser roll.

Steak: Switch at the Encore in Vegas, I think it's called SW Steakhouse now.

Taco: HCP's wife.

As many burgers as I eat, its really hard to choose one that absolutely blew my mind. One of the best ones was at Jackie Chan's restaurant (now closed) at the Ala Moana Mall in Honolulu.. I love teriyaki burgers, don't know, just love the mix of various stuff like teriyaki and pineapple....actually found a pic on my flickr archives.

biscuits and gravy is easy: Pine State. Holy fucking shit that place rocks.

Burger: The original Pilot Butte Drive-in in Bend. It was the best burger I could find. But the ownership has changed over the years and the quality has gone down a bit.

Pizza: For deep dish, Chicago-style, the best I've had is Paxti's in Palo Alto.

Eggs Benedict: I'm still searching for that truly amazing one. Give me some suggestions.

I believe the best eggs benedict I've ever had was at a St. Regis hotel (Mexico City). the key is really how well they poach the eggs, which they did a great job...really creamy. I just looked, there's one in SF..different restaurant..might want to check that out.

Manhattan Beach Post in Manhattan Beach makes a dope one. http://eatmbpost.com/

Also, when I was in Hawaii last month for a wedding I went to Alan Wong's Pineapple Room and had a great "hawaiian style" eggs benedict.

The best fried chicken I've had was at the Wayfare Tavern in SF. Unbelievably moist fried chicken...just an awesome dish.

Also had my best seafood there at the Swan Oyster Depot...had an insane crudo plate with various raw fishes with capers and olive oil. Raw scallops were bomb as fuck.

Any man claiming it was some exquisite meal while romantically traveling through Europe needs to hand in their man-card...and get rid of their girly iphone.

That is one of the most moronic takes I have ever read on this board.

I couldn't agree more, but he has plenty of other moronic posts that would be competing for the top spot.

This is so serious! Don't bash on a love for Europe. It's so romantic.

Did you think Europe was cool before it was cool?

france, spain, and italy are pretty famous for their food, so im not sure what is getting your goat here bb

"Spices" include a lot of things.

I had a variation of eggs benedict when I stayed in Santa Barbara at a vegetarian b & b. They called it California eggs benedict, croissant topped with avocado, egg, and hollandaise. Very yummy, if not exactly classic.

Almost everywhere is famous for their food.

I've been to France, Greece, Italy, etc, and the quality of food is similar to what you can find in the U.S.

Nothing "has my goat", I just think it's comical when the wannabe hipsters are so romantic about Europe. It's funny.

Europe is hardly romantic ("Welcome to Paris! The city of love! Watch where you step."), but I have to say in my experience, the food is WAY better than the States.

They take it VERY seriously, not just upscale folks. A friend of mine, a reporter, was in Paris covering a strike (forget which union). A union kitchen during a big strike is not unusual. In the U.S. that could mean, depending on ethnicity, stew, mac & cheese, chili. In France, the strikers cooked up a gourmet meal out of practically nothing.
