To aid in troubleshooting, at 4:03 PDT the site refused to load for a minute. Had to hit reload three times.

I just haven't had these problems. My phone is slow, at times, but that's more of a phone issue than a site issue.

Dammit I'm on their side!

The useful idiots are the first to be taken advantage of, and then eliminated, since they put up no resistance, yet think they're in on the game. :)

It means that the web page test was run from a server in Oregon. The page load time with empty browser cache is 3.585 seconds, and 2.365 seconds with the images and other cacheable bits of the page already in the cache.

Sub 3 second pages is outstanding.

Compare to CNN's home page:

Again, though, Boardman is 180 miles from Portland, and is in the middle of nowhere. Boardman may as well be in the Ukraine, as far as those of us in the Portland area are concerned.

The network path to the S2 servers is roughly the same. It's not like the test was being done from somewhere really close to where the servers are.

I rarely have issues, and you can't beat the price of being a member here.

I re-ran the test during the middle of the game thread.

Interesting. For me, I click on a link, wait for a minute, and then once it starts loading it loads quickly. Is that a problem with the "first byte time"?

It's a sign somewhere on the network between you and the site, packets are being lost.

The HTTP protocol does a back off and retry algorithm. If the first try, packet sent is lost, it chooses a random amount of time and tries again. This repeats but the random amount of time gets longer and longer.

There's no way in hell the site is taking 1 minute to deliver content. I can tell it's delivering several pages per second and the site isn't being taxed at all.

I believe you, that once it starts loading, it's fast.

It's waiting for the site to decide to load that tough.

I'm on a different network, a different computer, than home. You can obviously see that.

It also needs to be at a point between you and me that my connection to Google and Apple aren't connected to, because I often load both sites in other tabs while waiting for ripcitytwo or sportstwo to load.

I don't pay attention to where you are.

The times I'm seeing for first byte are expected considering the speed of the server and the network distance between the server and boardman. In fact, the first byte speed is damn near as fast as it would be if you were the only guy hitting the server.

Denny, do you have an ad blocker on your browser? Sometimes the site does stall loading when it comes to the Blazer/NBA banner ads. I know you have nothing to do with this and they are coming from a different server but that could explain why some people are noticing slower load times for the site.

It wouldn't be the ads. Maybe picture people link to.
