What is with the pop-ups on this site.

The site is hosted at a top quality hosting facility with outstanding bandwidth.

Nobody's ever complained until now about the site being slow. Not even on february 2nd, when there were over 1000 people viewing the Blazers forum, and another 300 viewing the rest of the site.

If the bandwidth or server performance were off, I'm sure I'd be hearing about it from lots of people. But when I hear it from one person, the likely reason is something to do with that person's computer, network connection, ISP, DNS server, etc.

That 3/4 second page load I showed you was from 15 router hops and about 500 miles of physical distance the data travelled.

Of course I would expect the site to go to a crawl when the Blazers' own facebook page links to it. No need to pretend it didn't happen however.

I don't expect the site to crawl at the loads we've had. I've not seen any indication of it. At 1000+ users, the most we've had in a while, the main server was 90% idle. The site has never ever "crashed" in the past 7 years. We haven't crashed on draft day like many other sites do, or when Oden was injured, or any other "traffic spike" type events.

The Blazers and many others recently linked to Sly's interview with Jerome Kersey. That didn't magically slow the site down.

One or two people anecdotally having an issue and claiming it is S2 doesn't mean it's S2. People post youtube videos or pictures in threads. These are not hosted here. If any of the sites hosting those are slow, the pages here can be slow.

That said, if you or anyone else is having issues, PM me right away and I'll look at it.

I am not having an issue with this site overall. It is very fast. 99.99% of the time. Very happy with it.

With that said, the site did crawl and come close to crashing that day though. It only lasted 5 minutes but it was an issue. Wheels who is a mod can vouch for it.

I am sure whoever you host with can provide you the server logs from 03/28/14 at approx 2 PM and it would show you that connections were refused for a short time.

As I said, very happy with the site but don't pretend it is/was bulletproof. I will assume you just weren't around to witness it on that day and time.

I run the server myself. I have seen the server and bandwidth logs and there's nothing in them to indicate the site was slow.

Your ISP could have been slow. Maybe you and Wheels use the same one. Or the network traffic from S2 to your ISP had some bottleneck.

Remember how Netflix is paying Comcast for peering? Because the network traffic between them and Comcast had become bottlenecked.

It happens. I can't control it.

LOL I am in North Idaho Denny. I highly doubt I use the same ISP at Wheels who is in Hood River.

As I said, this isn't a grip with S2. Love the site and have no trouble outside of that day. Instead of denying that users had issues though why don't we just embrace that it doesn't happen more often?

I use the Maxthon browser, no pop ups.

Most of the virus creator do not make viruses for this browser.
Even if you use FireFox (bad, they fired their CEO in error) pop ups are the result of viruses or adware.

Cable? Are your neighbors streaming?

Cable. I'd like to emphasize that when your site fails to load, I can go to other sites and they load very quickly. I don't think this is about my bandwidth.

Why wouldn't 10 or 30 people complain about S2's bandwidth at the time?

Why just you?

BC just doesn't want you to know that he's running a highly lucrative movie pirating ring.

It most often happens during active game threads, when I'm trying to do a quick reply. The quick reply window will be slow to appear, and after I hit post, it sometimes takes 20-40 seconds to "apply". This may be more about the forum software you're using than the server or service you're using.

Honestly, I have no clue. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Just because I was the only one to complain that one of Floater's albums was in mono doesn't mean I was wrong. It just meant I was the only one who gave a shit.

NOW, because I was the only one to complain, I got a pat on the head and no fix was ever issued. I expect the same thing to happen here.

The problem still is isolated to you and your location.

If the site were horribly slow, there'd be a long thread about it with more than 1 or 2 people saying it is slow for them.

There's nothing to fix that I can determine at this end. The server is super fast under our biggest loads and the bandwidth is as fast and well connected as can be for this kind of application (dynamically generated pages all the time).

As expected. Thank you for your effort.

Zero problems with site load for me, be it PC or my iPhone.

Probably has a dial up connection or tries to log on here while watching Russian porn at the same time

Denny, may i ask you something?

You shove out hundreds of dollars a month and pay for top quality servers and connections for what? for us to cat fight eachother in the Blazer section?

Not saying that it's a bad idea or anything...

Still haven't answered my question, Denny. :)

Sure lets not talk about how the site barely loads during active game threads, consistently taking 20+ seconds to even get to the point where I'm seeing text.

No one else I hack complains. What's your problem? Want me to defrag your drive?...okay it's done.

You guys are all saps. Those popups just told me I won 10K$! IM IN THE MONEY NOW!

Yes, we should all consider ourselves lucky, being Denny's millionth visitor. I'm luckier than the rest, because I've been his millionth visitor 3 times.

The load the google spider bots alone put on the site dwarf what hundreds of online users do.

There are dozens of different search engines, aside from google, that are hammering on the site 24/7.

There are some malicious attempts to hack the site (none succeed that I've detected), and maybe those slow things down, but the amount would be negligible.

Hacker groups like anonymous target large corporate type sites for denial of service attacks. I don't think they'd waste their time on S2, and the effort would be obvious to detect - the hosting company would be sending me alerts, and that sort of thing.

If there is a DoS attack on comcast, all bets are off.

Yet the site is fast for just about everyone but slow for a few only during game time, game threads.

Last game thread was 246 posts, 2400 views. The hardware, software, and hosting combination could serve that up in a few seconds, let alone the 2 hours of a game, or the posts and views that came well after.

How often does a web crawler index a site? Why repeat over and over, indexing the same unchanged threads from years ago?

3M plus posts

All the new posts each minute, etc.

Most currently-crawled threads on this board have had no posts for years. There are several dozen spider bots right now reviewing old threads that they've seen before. What a waste of effort from them, and resources from you.

People can edit posts, delete posts, redirect them to porn sites, etc. Google is doing its job.

the site does robo post to google a site map to crawl, basically the new posts/threads. They do what they want.

To aid in troubleshooting, at 4:03 PDT the site refused to load for a minute. Had to hit reload three times.
