He has a news conference today, however, give me your thoughts on what you think is his legacy

...thanx for stopping by !

...Obviously, I can't speak for everyone here but personally, I've been waiting for this day for years...plain and simple, ARod has been a pariah. He's a self centered, self serving, egotistical, lying, cheating POS...he sullied the Yanx image.

...as I mentioned in another thread, he's lucky he's not in jail...and he did Bonds a HUGE favor because ARod is now the default poster boy for PEDs use.

He was tolerable in 2009, lol!

...^^^ true.

...and the Yanx may not have gotten a 27th ring that year if not for ARod...but Arod would not have gotten his first an only ring without the Yanx.

Legacy? the man who tarnished the Yankee brand and drug it through the mud, literally. But the Kidz did the same, .....

the guy who crashed the party, and was left an island by the team cuz they all knew he was a cheat/fraud....no credibility.

Legacy? a needle in his ass, any future statue, figurine, sculpture, should have as much....His bumbling shit for a batting avg in PS in all but one year, 2009. The guy who couldn't come through in a PS clutch AB, an Achilles heel in the lineup....who never lived up to his billing and $$$$....

its a travesty he's even going to continue to be associated with the Yanx, but consider the owners/idiots....!

his true legacy is still like wheels in motion. The 1st over paid player, or part man, mostly a commodity.

How can a Consultant live up to their paychecks? Will A-Roid go on to garner next year's 21 Mil (approx), if so, a consultant should be worth their weight in gold, tho' none are, (well maybe a few, ie Bill James?)....

The "official" legacy won't be kind nor will it be as terrible as some feel it will or should be at this point in history.

If someone who was really interested and cared to listen were to ask me now or years from now I would say:
In his prime he was a great player, great all around hitter with great power who can hit for average and had speed and while he was on the field he played hard, worked hard and hustled.
But, he also played during heyday of PED use and was found to be guilty of PED use and recieved the more severe sentence of one year suspension as a result of him behaving like a desperate, paranoid lying dick-head threatening to sue "everyone" and anything (I would list if had to) associated with the case against him, which was accurate and correct.
I would also tell this person, Arod wouldn't accept the original less severe penalty and avoid the consequences because of the combination of him having too much foolish pride, not having the guts to admit guilt, and being angry and frustrated because many players from that period and earlier were either using PEDs or were accused or suspected including three players - Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa who made a mockery of the two revered MLB HR records while the crowds were cheering and the owners were making money - and he got caught holding the bag.

On a side note about Arod being "the 1st over paid player".

He had more talent, baseball skills and athleticism in his big toe than many other players receiving multiyear multi-million $ guaranteed contracts who wouldn't have made it to the big leagues prior to the expansion era of the 1960s and 70s.

And that will be his legacy, just likes Bonds!

He "sullied the Yanks image".
Sounds like a high and mighty noble statement.
Fair enough....he certainly has been called out front and center.

Did the Yanks have a choice whether or not to allow him back on the field WEARING THEIR UNIFORM after serving a year suspension for PEDs and being "a self centered, self serving, egotistical, lying, cheating POS" ?

If Arod today had 30 HRs and was 45 HRs shy of the all time HR mark, would there have been a press conference today?
Would the Yanks turn away paying fans the rest of this season and next?

And for those who may have missed it, the Yankee image has been taking hits and been the butt of jokes, ridicule and scorn for trying to "buy" championships, relying on FAs and their inability to produce homegrown SP and having MLB adjust the luxury tax rules because of their spending.

This has been going on before Arod got here and when the Boss was in charge.
That's the way it is imho.

He'll share the "incredibly talented athlete but even more incredibly flawed human being" poster with the likes Bonds, Clemens from MLB. But let's be clear, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, and too many NFL, NBA players to count.

It's not just PEDs, for others it was drugs & alcohol or sexual addiction. Narcissism coupled with the fear of greatness creates these fuck ups because they lack the support networks and personal discipline necessary.

Ichiro's and Jeter's could do it, so where are the differences? Corr belief structure not only in themselves, but also the rules, history and legacy of the game. They did not let their egos get bigger than the sport.

For ARod, a so called student of the game, this is his worst crime IMHO, and in doing so also tarnished the pinstripes for generations.

Yes indeedy....alot of people can do it, not only the "Ichiros" or "Jeters".....obviously Arod has shown disrespect for the rules and didn't have the core belief structure of those who did not use or even risk getting exposed as a PED user.
And.....there will always be cheaters and those who lie to try and cover up breaking the rules...some even lie to congress and the American public about commitiing felonies concerning national secrets and miscellaneous espionage and intelligence operations.

Arod had been publicly tarred and feathered.
He paid the price and his name has been splattered with mud- his children and the rest of his family also know about it.

And do you know what else will be a known fact for "generations" to come"?------> The Yankee organization had a choice to accept him back and they did, and the reason they now chose to turn him away is because he couldn't hit a baseball as well as they wanted.
Lmao.....ride that high horse...yee haa!

He's a ballplayer who got caught cheating, lied about it and behaved like a dooshbag in the process.
He's not John Wilkes Booth.

...yeah, I remember when that first came out...actually kinda like that version and the video too.

"People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dare
Disturb the sound of silence"

outstanding tune- still listen alot to S&G, and Simon's solo works, a genius he is-

I've often wondered if Paul (in his young years); had read 'Plato's Republic': "Allegory of the Cave"...?

“The words of the prophets
Are written on subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence”

compare to:

"Between the iron gates of fate
The seeds of time were sown
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known.
Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools".

"The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams".

either way one slices and dices it, IMO, this IS the era of American Decadence....

fwiw, I'll check out the box score, but tonight's game is one that I will refuse to actually watch...fuck ARod.

now I admire your tenacity, fk it, I'm doing the same, my own private bronx zoo is the kids playing a sandlot game across the highway, think I'll join in..... Au Revoir....

take those 8's off those jersey's and FK A-Roid, good fkng riddance.....damn why didn't the boys fit check him for those cement boots last year, when they we're supposed too??

Now the pinstripes can start to remove the tarnish.

...^^^ contrary to everything I've been taught, I hope it is possible to "polish a turd".

>My father disliked him immensely. His opinion centered on the $ sign associated with ARod. His legacy was never recognized by my dad who passed in 012 @93. For him,it was a simple comparison to all the great Yankees he admired before. He liked the great 40's, 50's and 60's teams and surely had many players who wanted the game rather than a fat paycheck every game. $$$$$$$$$
