true, 94 sucked. What I'd of given to DH Martinez, have Donnie play 1 more year to get the Ring......

Buck flat out gets screwed most of his life, same with his stint in Phoenix (f'k Garigiola)....

I think you'd love Torre's book Rick. Some great insights into the Series he was a part of, crucial crazy calls, like bunting with 2 outs, man on 1st.....in Series play. I love the blow by blow shit we only hear about years after the events, usually in book form, some never even makes the news, the good stuff that is....
 
That was also the year that we could have had 7 50 HR hitters, including what many felt would have been the 1st to legitimately broken Roger Maris's record. Matt Williams who had 43 HRs at the time of the strike & was on pace to hit 65. The other 6 heading toward 50 that year was Fred McGriff (34), Frank Thomas (38), Barry Bonds (37), Albert Belle (36), Ken Griffey jr (40) & Jeff Bagwell (39).

Also Mike Mussina could have had is 1st 20 win season (16 at the strike) & as mentioned the Yankees Jimmy Key was well on his way to his 1st & would have been his only 20 win season & a CYA having gone 17-4 at the time of the strike. Yeah 94 really f'ked things up.
 
I really like Jimmy Key way back when he was a Jay, the moxy of that Team too....what could of been.

I blame all this on Bud Selig, may it Tarnish the Golden Boy image MLB is trying to paint of Selig in time for his retirement, while trying to hand select his right hand puppet as his replacement. The worst Commish I've seen in my many many decades.....

The 98 team was why I said in the OP that the 94 team could have been ONE of the best Yankee teams ever.

No doubt, the '61 and '27 teams were tremendous all time great teams...
...but it looks as if you too, have "forgotten" one of the absolute greatest teams of all time...the team which some how always seems to fly under the radar when discussions of all-time great teams takes place.

The 1939 Yankees. Check them out some time.
 
Rick, here's one - whaddya think?

The 2009 Yankees won 103 games and the World Series. They were the only team to win 100 in MLB that year.
They lead in HRs, runs scored and also set a (then) defensive record with most consecutive games without an error.

2009 Yankees were the first team to win at least 100 games and the WS since the 1998 team and before that you'd have to go back to 1986 for the LAST team prior to that to win 100 games and the WS.

The 2009 Yanks are your basic underrated overlooked "great" all-time.. and I truly believe it.

Yeah Speeds, can't mention 1994 without thinking about the Expos. A 6 game lead over the Braves at the time of the strike. And for there final 10 seasons after that in Montreal they only managed to play 500 ball in 3 of those seasons & never made the playoffs.

Bullshid....the days of Unions, less MLB-Sports is long lived beyond their time.....

Spent 12 Years in Aerospace under the UAW, and 17 in Aerospace under Northrop, (no effing Unions) got much better benefits, pay much more, just to keep those effing unions OUT.........!!!

Had quit a few buddies, uproot their families to go to work for Boeing Seattle....6 months later they went on the longest strike in their history.....all those guys had to scramble for jobs, most worked two, paying less than they made at Boeing. After approx-5 to 6 months, Boeing Employees settled for a helluva lot less than they were originally offered. Thank the effing Union.........

I too loathe Unions. Bunch of hypocrites......debated Unions with a Steward when I worked on the Shuttle (UAW) told him I worked in both shops, non union and union. Got better treatment in non union shops, pay too, in that Union Shop, most grievances might as well been written on toilet paper.

At the end of those long 2 day debates, he drove a Fiat Home, I drove a Chevy Truck....now whose effing who.....?

Maybe a Union is only necessary these days to the un-civilized Chinese buying importee store-"Walmart"..otherwise screw unions.
 
There are way more business out there where unions PROTECT employees for shitty work conditions and cutting corners. For the most part unions typically have the most up to date educated employees in their field.

My great grandmother lived in Village Olympique. We'd stay with her in Montréal and walk the concrete over to the Big O for the games. We went quite often from about 90-96 and saw a lot of good baseball there (and in Toronto). With the Jays winning the WS twice around that time it was a golden era for baseball in Canada and a fun time to be a fan.

It looks worse than it is because the Rogers Centre is such a cavernous building. The Jays had 92,000 fans show up to the last two games of their series against the Tigers this weekend. Their attendance last year was about 2.5-million which is average to good, and looking even better this year. They could use a baseball specific stadium but I don't know if that will happen in the next decade. Blue Jays games are very hip at the moment because the team has been so mediocre for so long. The team is on the upswing and the city is behind them.

Montréal has a rich baseball history. Jackie Robinson, Pete Rose getting his 4,000th hit in front of about 50,000 fans, Gary Carter--the exhibition games played at the Big O this year drew such huge crowds (about 100,000 over two games) that MLB was taken aback. I think a lot of people believe that the city turned its back on the team or that Montréal was never a good place for baseball and I'm not sure that's true (at all). I remember the good days and I remember paying $20 for seats behind the plate in the bad days. I think Montréal compares favourably to many of the MLB cities. Montréal compares well to anywhere--it's a fucking great place to be. Once Bud Selig is out of the way we'll see what happens.

The Great Roberto Clemente began his career with the Montreal Royals, his 1 yr. Minor Lg. N. American stint.........not only did the old Bums have a pool of great talent to come and go..........The Expos had developed some great players too....Tim Raines, Andre Dawson, Tim Wallach (solid glove, good RBI man), hell even Galaragga....and the rest, (some) have already been named.

NTM-they fandangled for Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson.....Montreal's ticket sales began to take a ride south big time......if only the Stadium wasn't a concrete old day Trop.......or if-..............

I totally beg to differ...that statement cannot hold water more than a strainer can, in the Aerospace and Defense Industries.....NG is much more advanced a Company than all those other Union Shops. Some states, with "right to work" laws, you choose one way or the other, (in Aerospace), you'll find a declining Union Populace these days less than ever, with more Non-Union Workers, getting fairer treatment by Human Resources, and A MUCH BETTER EDUCATED MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE, AS WELL AS ADMINISTRATION AND CORPORATE HUMAN RESOURCE POLICIES. There is NO DEBATE in the Industry I spent my life in.

Boeing, McDonnel Douglas, Rockwell Intl. General Dyanmics, Rockwell, HoneyWell, Westinghouse Elect. Hughes Elect....name 'em all if you want......none compare to Northrop's light decades ahead of its time, in technologies, from RCS/LOA, IT-incl. Software Engineering, Radar Systems, Avionics, Propulsion Systems....please don't try to to debate this point for Aerospace and Union's....it's a debate you can't win as far as Aerospace.

My own experiences with Unions, pure bullshit.......they take your monthly dues, then leave you in the cold during a strike. Go back and read the 1st post, on Seattle Boeing's longest strike debacle. Do you know over 140,000 employees out of jobs overnight, all had to scramble as to how to feed their kids, pay their bills, with NO hope in sight, and NO UNION DUE MONIES, paid not even a effing dime for a baby's formula.

As I stated, and.........they all settled for a helluva lot less than they were offered to begin with in the 1st place. How does one make up for 6 months of lost wages, ????? You don't you never recover it........too many peeps, think ingrained Union Mentality is and will always be the way of Civilized Corporate Collective Bargaining America. One day yes, Unions were needed, and keep in mind, Labor Laws, or Human Resource Programs did not exist, during the advent and necessary times, for Union Shops. Honestly the only thing I see Unions do, is protect the f'k up employees, who should be shit canned, and look the other way when short cuts are being made. You can not fill me full of the shit that is Unions. As they say, I spent more time in the shit-house, than you have on this airplane" (a remark once made to myself, not talking bout you Al).....working, than most Union Flag Waivers have on their jobs.....
 
Considering I am the son of a union electrician, one who was the vice president....with all due respect, I see a different light then you do.
