What might have been.....

My great grandmother lived in Village Olympique. We'd stay with her in Montréal and walk the concrete over to the Big O for the games. We went quite often from about 90-96 and saw a lot of good baseball there (and in Toronto). With the Jays winning the WS twice around that time it was a golden era for baseball in Canada and a fun time to be a fan.

Considering I am the son of a union electrician, one who was the vice president....with all due respect, I see a different light then you do.

You know Al, I was guessing you were close to Union Family Background. Please no offense......I know the debates to well. I don't hold it against you (busting your chops), sure some places like Walmart need Unions. I've watched a new Union literally destroy the integrity, quality and overall outcome of the Local Hospital, by going Union 5 years.

Not saying Unions don't have some belonging in some worlds. But in this era of American Production....Unions are becoming outdated, and Non-Union Aerospace employees receive far superior, and/better tech, better educated employees from a mechanic to a Director, always get much much better training. Northrop for instance IS THE ONLY Aerospace Firm that has its own University. Management on down to the mechanic technician, receive training I never saw, only heard of at Rockwell Intl. on the Space Shuttle Program, (UAW)......

Doing the work of higher labor grade technicians, for 3 years, 70 of us Installation Techs, and Quality Inspectors, filed a grievance, that we too should be the higher labor grade, WITH the title "Research and Development Technicians"....3 years of waiting on a effing grievance, to make that $1 more an hour. Add that up, on a yearly scale. What did the Union get us, but a ONE week compensation check, and upgraded in labor grades, and got that extra buck an hour, for the last 6 months of the entire program. Why not the buck for the 3 years, the Union could NOT settle the grievances????

Unions never can or do protect their workers on strike, what else are Union Dues for?

On the other hand, AL-please know I don't want you to take offense to what I'm saying, please none at all.

RE2PECT to you, your Dad, and your beliefs, ....:tiphat:.......even tho' they differ from mine, I'm more than tolerant of different even opposing points of views, we gotta be tolerant of opposing views, less albeit Hamas, or Isis, or.......PUKIN....I mean that asshole who's running the new USSR....!

Translation: When getting on a two humped camel make sure you sit on the middle one.

I know for first hand the the electrical union does have a benefit program established for work stopages and for unemployed members. One thing that I am quiet sure you would not see is an illegal working in a union shop.

I am not going to say there are no corruptions in unions or greed, that would be foolish to think, I just know that when done properly it can and has worked. Standards are mostly better for the customer and the employee. Some of the federal and state employment laws were because of organized unions.

No doubt, I totally agree, without Unions in the early Industrial Revolution, we'd all be picking cotton.....those Labor Laws have become some of the most important laws in a workers life....and kudos to all Unions for the creation of much needed laws to put sweat shops, or thugs out of business.....

Don't get me wrong, I can respect Unions, its to often a simple lazy Union Steward, that gives an entire shop a bad name....to often I've seen companies dictate to Unions what will get accomplished or not....

I have and will never see a illegal working in a Union Shop, but you sure won't see an illegal working for any Aerospace Firm, period. Even on Commercial Programs. Now D.O.D black hole TSAR programs, you won't see a Mexican Born but American Citizen, working in some of those dark secret cavernous programs. Just saying, the tighter the program, TSAR (Top Secret Access Required), the less riff raft, yet, sometimes, the lesser the experienced work force, (only during start up of a new program), as time progresses TSAR restrictions loosen and those who jay walked once in their lives, are then allowed in, ie, TSAR restrictions cost experienced workers a job in itself, if you got so much as "one disturbing the peace", or any other minor non misdemeanor on their records. DUI forget it.....just saying,

I know there are needs for Unions in non-developed nations- LOL-(busting your chops again)......honestly, yes, if done right, Unions can make progress. I'm not a Union Buster, yet, I see to much crap in this Commerce Killing State, of CA.

And, yes, only some Unions have financial assistance for striking employees, yet most don't, but they all say they do. I've seen my father working 2 jobs, over 4 times in my life, due to strikes, and not once, did the Union offer him or anyone else a dime for his kids milk. That was our reality....sad, but true. Those who have assistance for striking workers, are the minority anymore, to be honest, I believe the Union dues are spent more on Lobbiest in DC, than on their employees....

Not speaking in general, just on what I've observed in my career path...

again, please take no offense to anything I'm saying Big AL..... :tiphat:
