Forum Game What Player Acquisition would make you Quit being a Blazers Fan?

This question was answered for me when the Vikings signed Brett Favre almost a decade back. Love my team; hated him. Never wavered on either. If my fandom could survive him, there's no single player who could make me abandon my Blazers.

I think perhaps that the only thing that could push me away from being a Blazer fan would be if the ownership somehow made it clear that they embraced a full-on "business over basketball" mindset. That is to say, something like what the Clippers did throughout the 90's/early 2000's, where the only thing that mattered to the front office was making a profit rather than putting together a competitive team. That would be something I would be unable to stand for or support. However, even if that were to occur, once that were corrected, I'd almost certainly be back.

There isn't any player in the league currently that is personally repellent, like Ruben Patterson or Kobe Bryant were.

I find some players annoying, like Russell Westbrook or Chris Paul, or overrated, like Russell Westbrook, so I might be annoyed if the Blazers traded a bunch of stuff for, say, Russell Westbrook--but it wouldn't be something that made me quit being a Blazers fan. I'd just shake my head in disappointment, like when Olshey signed Evan Turner to a huge deal.

Stopped watching for 2 years when they signed Ruben Patterson.

Yeah, I guess that would be the other side of it--if the FO decided to completely ignore human decency and bring in someone who is simply an objectionable human being. Matt Barnes is probably the closest I can think of in the NBA right now to that description. Doing a little research, Darren Collison might also fit that label. Found an interesting site to cull through...

Went down a rabbit hole looking for NBA player criminal histories. Found this Bleacher Report post from about 16 months ago. http://fadeawayworld.com/2016/10/04/active-nba-players-with-criminal-records-listed-by-team/

Pelicans had quite a trio last season...
New Orleans Pelicans

Dante Cunningham:
speeding, reckless driving, marijuana possession (’11), domestic assault – choked his girlfriend and slammed her against the wall (’14), sending threat messages to said girlfriend after the arrest (’14), citation for DUI (’16)

Terrence Jones: assaulted a homeless guy (’13)

Lance Stephenson: sexual abuse (’08), assault – pushed girlfriend down the stairs -, harassment, menacing and possession of a deadly weapon (’10)

there are a few that i could think of:

Blake Griffin - treats the staff like utter dog shit
Draymond Green - he is utter dogshit
Klay Thompson - he is the type of person (to me) that he just looks like a person you want to punch in the face for no reason
James Har_en - self explanitory
Chris Paul - ever since he met doc, he has been a whiny little bitch.

and last but not least:

if they sign meyers to another extension.

I can't think of anyone in the league now that would make me quit being a fan. I used to hate Kobe but I respected his game. If I had to pick a guy from the past I hated Kevin Garnett, I still wouldn't have stopped watching. So I guess no one would make me quit!

I guess you don't watch Area 21...

I tend to look at it by the criterion of what if this person was a colleague of mine? There are some things like being busted with pot that I just put in category of stupid. There are some like drunk driving that I have real issues with, having lost a family member. I would not want the person fired but would go out of my way to avoid him/her. There are those who cross the line, batterers, child molesters, rapists, etc.

Then there are the ones who are just assholes. If they are assholes who are good at their job I try to avoid any but basic professional contact but appreciate they can do their work. Except for those who are abusive. No excuse for them.

If they moved the team.

^^ This is the only thing that would make me not care. Moving. I lived in San Diego for years and thought I'd stick with the Chargers. As soon as they went to LA, that was it. Don't care.

Westbrook. I can barely look at his face without wanting to punch it repeatedly.

Oh yeah and Lonzo Ball just because of his dad.

I don't think I could watch Blazers games if we had Westbrick. Thank god that will never happen.

Nobody, but for the sake of the game. LeBron James and Stephen Curry would put a damper on my enthusiasm for the team.

I'm a fan of the team first and foremost. It's the name on the front of the jersey that really matters to me, and not so much the name on the back.

So I can't think of anyone who would make me quit being a Blazers fan. Except maybe a resurrected Adolf Hitler. Yeah, Hitler definitely.

I'm with ya, but what about Stalin?
