What position do we draft this year?

The season isn't half over, but I think we've got a decent idea about what areas of this team we need improvements on. While one way of gaining new players is through veteran talent, I thought we might take a break from trade ideas and focus on the future of the franchise. Which position do you think could use the most need?

My gut instinct says SG/SF. Antoine has been underwhelming so far, and Boki's regression from last year leaves us with a need for consistent wing players and shooters. Perhaps Chase Budinger if our pick is high enough? Chris Douglas-Roberts if we want someone more athletic?

However a case could also be made for PF/C. Malik Allen isn't going to be signing a 6 year deal anytime soon, and Collins will be an expiring contract next year. Magloire? Doubt he'll want to stay in NJ any longer. With so many roster spots having the potential of being unfilled it might be a good idea to grab another big. Hey, after all we did take a look at DeVon Hardin last year.

But then of course one could argue for PG. Afterall Marcus is still very early in his development stage so it might be worth taking a guy as insurance. At the very least, DA won't be with the team much longer. I could see Tywon Lawson being an option.

Those are just some of my ideas. What are you guys thinking?

Best player available. Unless the Nets believe MWill will never make it in the NBA as a starter, PG is the only position we don't need to draft.

I know a lot of guys visit nbadraft.net, but I can't recommend www.draftexpress.com enough. I think it's a lot more comprehensive in terms of scouting players (it'll give you anything you wanted to know about any prospect you want), and its mock drafts seem a bit more reasonable.

When its all said and done, I think he'll be beyond your reach, but a player like Kevin Love would be perfect for the Nets. I think you need a more versatile offensive weapon in the post.

Way to early to tell, IMO. Not only do we still have a whole heck of a lot of games left to play, but the college season is far from over as well. Who knows what will happen on both levels between now and draft day. With the way things are going though, we need a pure shooter. Badly. One who can stick a dagger in the oppositions heart late in games.

well the last three drafts have yielded two rotation-quality big men and a PG that the team loves. I think the Nets totally lucked out, because quality big men are historically very difficult to find outside the lottery. VERY DIFFICULT. It's much easier to find swingmen/shooters there. It clearly makes sense to pick up a SG/SF. Of course, if they totally suck the rest of the way and ended up with the eighth or tenth pick, I could see them grabbing a big, especially if they have doubts about Krstic ever coming all the way back. They'll almost certainly try to take some smart kid who plays in a well-strutured system.

I'd almost prefer to see the Nets trade down, then grab as many pure shooters as possible and see which one(s) pan out to be NBA caliber.
Other than late last season (Boki) its been a while since the Nets had a lights out shooter.
I think the Nets offense lacks a guy who can:
1) Hit the 3 on a drive and kick reliably.
2) Because of that 3 point reliability, force his defender to stay close... making the drives for VC/RJ that much easier.

Also I wouldn't go with Ty Lawson I know he's one fast motha fucker but IMO I love it when the PG if the Floor General and is basically the coach on the court like J-Kidd. Marcus shows signs of being a good passer he just needs confidence. I think Beasley would bang well at SF or PF and could score whenever the hell he wants. And hes like windex he cleans the glass like every play he grabs like 20 boards a game

Also has anyone seen Jarvis Varnado?? He's litterally the second comming of Sean Williams. He's 6'9 and skinny from Mississippi State and he gets like 10 blocks a game (not exaggerating)

It's too early to think about the draft. We don't have a fix what position the Nets will be selecting and player stocks are always changing.

Hes got a good mid range shot and he can score non stop.
How about Washington outta VTech in the 2nd round? Hes an energy player who jumped over someone in a game last year it was sick he can jump outta the building.
And if you want a scorer I'd go with OJ Mayo..
How do you guys feel about Hansbrough? He's a monster college center but hes too short for the NBA. IMO I dont care how tall you are if you can play you can play. Look at Glenn Davis and even Sean Williams when he goes in at Center is only 6'9 and does well. Btw I'm not saying we should draft Hansbrough Im just curious what you guys think about him.

KC did a pretty good job of convincing me to take another look at Brandon Rush, and I'm now pretty sold on Nikola Pekovic

Thabeet is 7'3" and is only averaging 10/8. He's getting 4 blocks a game, but once this guy loses his physical advantages in the NBA he's going to look forward to a career as a scrub.

I dont disagree with you, i think he could be and should be better. I dont think he will be a full bust though.

Sean Williams only averged 3 and 3 his sophmore year.

I say we take him if he's still on the board and others are gone.
