<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Fiyah:</div><div class="quote_post">Why wouldn't race be the correct term? True "race" is a man-made concept and does not scientifically exist. But we know what is meant by race in our society today.... or at least I thought most of us knew until I saw the answers in here

We all supposedly fit into one of either white/caucasian, black/negro, asian, or hispanic. Your nationality is not synonymous with your race.

Oh... I am black.</div>
Great intelligent post Fiyah. Way to stick it to the man.

Jokes. I'm not racist at all.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Smoke:</div><div class="quote_post">I've been told by many that I'm white.

I'm Black / Indian.</div>

I feel your pain, black/jamaican with light skin.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KL32:</div><div class="quote_post">my father is african american and my mother is trinidadian... also my father was part native american, and my mother had french and portugese in her... im a mutt lol</div>

In other words... you are black.

LOL... yeah I wasn't sticking it to anybody... but despite what I said people are still equating race with nationality.

So I guess in the trend of the thread... my race is Jamaican

LMMFAO, I was thinkin the same exact thing......I know this is a little off topic, but I've always noticed that some black folks try to find ways to hide their blackness.......It's funny when I see some black folks saying "hey I'm Creol".......there isn't some kind of deep history of the "Creol" race.....Creol = black.........I think some people just get a neg. image of what black is, so they try to deny it, and look down on it (I'm not trying to KL32 is like that, but there are certain people that it does apply to)......I have a Grandfather who is from the Carribean, but I know a lot of people from the Carribean are black......anyways I'll stop ranting.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Fiyah:</div><div class="quote_post">Lemme ask you too... what nationality are you since your race is Irish?</div>

Sorry I didn't do that on purpose, it just slipped my mind. I wasn't implying anything.

I'm white. And my nationality is Irish

Well there are definately alot of black people in the Caribbean... especially the West Indies (or British Caribbean). But yeah... you hit the nail on the head. Again... not directed at anyone... but I have to wonder why some people would identify themselves as creole, west indian, jamaican, trinidadian, mixed (in certain cases), or any other identifier that doesn't begin with a 'B' and end with a 'K'.

Here.. I will help some people out. If back in 1963, you could not go in certain bathrooms and restaurants in America, you are indeed black.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting The Reign Man:</div><div class="quote_post">The Marianas, eh?

Cool stuff... I'm German/Swedish/Dutch/Scottish/English [so eventually that makes me American, I hope], mom was born in Nigeria, myself in Alaska.</div>

yeah, im from the Mariana's Islands. Guam specifically. 100% Pacific Islander here. I have a bit of Filipino and Japanese blood in me too.

I think you some of you are being too harsh. If somebody state's that they are from somewhere in the Caribbean, people generally assume you are black, unless you state otherwise.

I know most of the carribean is black, but that doesn't mean everyone there is. Iv'e seen white and chinese people in jamaica so you can't say that being from the carribean automatically makes you black.

Also i dont see whats wrong with stating your nationality in addition to your race. I said i was black and also mentioned my nationality, jamaican.

I didn't say the whole of the Carribean was black.

Hey I know that too well. I am from Jamaica and our motto is "out of many, one people" meaning that many different ethnicities and races make up one nationality. But in a thread that asks "what RACE are you?" nationality can be added... but unless you add the "race" part then you really didn't answer the question now did you?

No one said anything was wrong with specifying nationality in addition to race... what I question is the people who would answer a question asking one's race with their nationality alone... it would leave me to believe they don't know what race is... or they don't want to admit it... or they don't identify with race.

I wasn't directing this towards you, my bad I should've quoted.

I'm American.

*Waits for rant about the difference between nationalities and races.*

Okay, I'm Caucasian.

It's interesting to see how many different types of people post on this board. A lot of people would just assume that because this is a basketball message board the majority of the posters are black, but I've noticed we have a lot of whites, Asians, and Hispanics who post on the forum as well.

Im from Pakistan so that makes me a Pakistani.
