What to do with Nic Batum

Me too. He might not do worse, and it might get him back on track. One way to find out.

I'm just curious to see if he's one of those guys that needs to start to get a rhythm. If he is, at least we'll know.

I was blaming Nic, that's what the entire post was about! It was the first sentence! Have you ever read a comment before this?[/QUOTE

Yep, read the whole thing, questioned it from the 1st sentence..disagreed with the entire post as well. Robin Lopez has more double doubles in half a season than in his entire career and it's because of Nic Batum's unselfish play.

Nic has been playing through pain since before the road trip and we've had pretty good results. Throwing him under the bus after the 4th of 2 back to back games is just small minded. I think he should limit his minutes and Wright or Claver should get some burn. Wright has just suffered a shooting slump as well as Claver. Crabbe can also play his position but without Nico, we wouldn't be 31-11 by any stretch so how about not kicking him while he's down? As was mentioned before, Durant dropped 54 on Iggy last week. Didn'see Warriors fans asking for his head though. I suggest we support any player that has an injury as well as one who has an off game. Nic got beat last night by the guy who's probably the MVP of the league this season.

You might be right but if Nic's play continues for the next five games like this or ten games at what point does he become a liability out there. Furthermore, Nic has shown a willingness to become super passive and hang his head when he struggles, which could effect his game and the team beyond the time it takes his finger to heal. So I would rather try and build Wrights confidence back up than watch Batum struggle and lose his.

I too would let him rest a few games and let Wright start and have Crabbe back him up.

Keep playing him. Batum's recent defense is just as good as its always been. He's never been very good against other small forwards. He gets some highlight reel open floor blocks, and his physical appearance is the body type of someone who appears that they could be excellent. But he's always been rated as a poor individual defender.

I cannot argue with this assertion but it worries me that Batum's defense will fall off the more attention he pays to the pain in his finger. Batum is average defensively but his range and ability to shift between positions and to guard the ball handler make him useful.

uh..this IS blaming Nic...for getting too many assists? sheesh! Too concerned with making the extra pass? Have you even watched the team this season?

Why not people blamed JJ for getting too many rebounds

I'd prefer to rest him until his hand heals. Otherwise it's going to be a nagging injury that causes him to be even more selective in his performances that he decides to show up in. Also, it'll just keep being another excuse for the Blazers.

Have Wright, Claver, and Crabbe split Batum's minutes. One will emerge and "arrive" with a surprise season, like Freeland did. After beating the other two, the winner will take all the minutes, and the two losers will return to the bench. Meanwhile, Batum will shake off his injury in the D-League.

Batum to d-league oh snap

that's not really a correct statement meese, they blamed JJ for taking his own teammates rebounds but even so, has nothing to do with the topic of discussion here which is Nic Batum and this season, not last season. I blamed Felton for being fat and poor at dribbling a basketball once upon a time but I've moved on.

I just thought it was relevant people complain about a lot of things they should not, such as Batum getting assists or JJ getting rebounds.

Some things never change huh? lol

The Blazers' REB% last season was worse with Hickson on the court versus him off the court.

What should the Spurs do with Kawhi Leonard? The guy has no heart. A non-displaced fracture and he refuses to play the 2nd half while Durant scores 24 of his 38 points. Who can the Spurs get in a trade for him?

16.3 PPG 6.7 RPG 5.6 AGP 0.69 BPG .98 SPG oh wait, those are Batum's stats... Kawhi has 17.7 PPG 6.2 RPG 1.8 APG 1.68 SPG .48 BPG

What a bum. Quits on his team because of an owie no his hand, inconsistent, can't beat the Blazers or OKC or anyone but the bottom feeders of the NBA. I need to make a mental note to re-post this every other week.

Trade Batum already. Oh, oops, Freudian slip.

And Indiana. Time to rebuild. Looking worse than Portland's 1st game of the season, getting blown out by Phoenix. PHOENIX!!! Trade David West. What a bum. Got an owie on his hand, 3 rebounds, 1-3 from the free throw line... in 22 min?!?! No heart. Who can Indiana get for West? They could easily get Aldridge for him, but they need draft picks.

Wait, what were we talking about here?

Thanks BF and all you guys, the Spurs one made me laugh and once again, squirt half a shot of single malt out my left nostril! The laughter was priceless, the scotch I can replace!

Name a sf in the league better than batum not named LeBron Durrant or George.

Batum's PPG are 13.0 his PER is 16.3 Kawhi is averaging 11.8 with a 17.7 PER.

Parsons plays one great comeback game and you put him in here? That's a stretch, McHale just said he had lacked consistency.

I have had Parsons ahead of Batum since last year. While he is not as good of a passer as Batum he is a much more efficient scorer and as good of rebounder, and defensively they are fairly close.

Defensively, Parsons is a sieve, it's not even close. Parsons also disappears for several games at a time. He doesn't belong in the great SF conversation. He's middle of the road. Rudy Gay is also a bit of a chucker, never saw a shot he wouldn't take kinda guy or he'd be the franchise player in Toronto right now wouldn't he(or why did they trade him to Sac)? Melo doesn't defend or share the ball with anyone. He's a shooter and pretty much well....a shooter that's losing more games than winning. Batum is as close to Pippen as anyone on your list.

Their USG/PER ratios are basically the same. Both are very efficient players. What's your point?

Parsons and Batum are very similar on defense, too often they loose focus when playing away from the ball handler. Parsons does a good job when guarding the ball handler, which is why he has held Durant to 38% shooting while guarding him in his career and held Kobe to 36%. Furthermore, Parsons defense issues can be attributed to the Rockets system, which emphasizes gambling and forcing turnovers overs. If either of these guys played in the Bulls system you would see that they are quite similar defensively.

Parsons also has a Def Rat of 103.7 to Batum's 104.5 PER NBA.COM and he has a higher WS both OFF and DEF PER basketball reference. So statistically speaking Parsons is not only the better shooter but the better defender.

I thought melo was considered a pf.

The other 2 might be on par with batum but not better.

Since Rudy Gay went to Sacramento he is scoring with much greater efficiency. Obviously it's a small sample size but in 21 games he is averaging 20 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3 apg, 1.1 spg and 0.8 bpg on .605 TS%

My SF would look something like
LeBron
Durant
George
Melo
Gay
Leonard
Iggy
Batum
Parsons
