What to do with our cap space?

I would renounce Claver and Freeland. No guarantee that either are ever planning on coming over. I'd try to keep Hickson and Batum, and then draft a big and a guard. 14 million is enough to max out a 4 year vet. I'd throw a max deal at Gordon and front load that shit to make the league think twice before matching it.

Marshall
Gordon
Batum
Hickson
Aldridge

Young, athletic, and versatile.

Gordan has me scared. Love the player but his constant injuries on a max contract scares the shit out of me.

we should jam something big and black in our cap space, like roy hibbert

PG: Marshall
SG: Gordon
SF: Batum
PF: Aldridge
C: Drummond | Asik

If we can get Drummond i'd be a happy camper. Him or Robinson are the two guys i'v really wanted (seeing as there is on chance in hell we get Davis).

So, sign Hibbert, draft Marshall and Lamb, and call it good?

i would enjoy that

i really like rookies, pretty excited about having two guys to dream and fantasize about, hopefully they have great length

Should I be surprised that you want to fantasize about the length of our rookies and jam something big and black into our space?

No, no I should not.

well, the black part isnt necessary, just really big will do, and not some twig like CJ, i want girth

Why'd they sign 40 year old Kurt Thomas to a 2 year deal? Hopefully he will retire, and we can use his money on Hickson.

And Matthews...last year he looked like a steal, this year he's looked more like a backup that should be making 1-2 mil. I hope he bounces back, but at this point, I'd much rather have the cap space than Matthews. I think the #1 target this year should be Williams, #2 should be Dragic....failing that, could we go with a lean roster this year save the cap space for later?

I'd take Goran for 6m a year then do some lopesided trades like a S&T Batum and the 11th for Igoudala then NJ's pick and Sheldon williams to the Hawks for Josh Smith.
Dragic
Mathews
Igoudala
Smith
LA
With Ewill/Babbit/Smith off the bench, I like it.

Tom Haberstroh has us as a "Buyer" in the West with the 2nd most cap space this summer with $23 million under that cap (Suns #1 with $26 millions):
Portland Trail Blazers -- $23 million under the cap
Coming off the books: Mehmet Okur ($10.9M), Raymond Felton ($7.6M), Hasheem Thabeet ($5.1M)
Biggest needs: PG, SG, C

Nicolas Batum (restricted free agent) figures to re-up with the Blazers, and they'll have plenty of cash to throw at him. The big question is whether Portland will chase other free agents this summer or wait until it finds out what talent it has with its two likely lottery picks.

This is setting up to be a fascinating offseason for Portland, an organization that has to fill both the mouths of a passionate fan base and the holes of a porous roster. Going after Roy Hibbert and Brook Lopez might be an option, but they likely won't be freed from their current teams. Of all the free agents on the market, the one to keep an eye on is Nash.

We've got no shot at Hibbert. Most teams are going to match a really good RFA, especially if he's a center. The only reason why I think Gordon could be snatched is because it's a new owner and he might not want to sink a bunch of cash into the guy. We front load the deal and hope for the best. Actually, my original thinking was based on the fact that the league owned NOR. Now that there's a true owner, it might be quite a bit harder to steal him away.

If we are unable to land Beal I'd then focus on using the cap space on Gordon/Dragic/Batum.
