So Sharpe got us all excited carving up an Israeli-league team last night. Does that mean he can/should get minutes in the actual season? I say: not yet. We have a glut of guards and he's still too raw. I would much rather he went to the G-League (here's where we revive the complaint that we don't have our own team) and get 30+ mpg, than collect DNP-CDs on the Blazers' bench.

Walker, on the other hand, definitely should stay with the team. He's much more ready to contribute, and in fact, should be our first forward off the bench (ahead of Nas, on current showing).

This kid needs minutes, it's that simple. The team needs to put him in real situations regularly - both for him and to evaluate where he is and how to plan for the future based on his progress.
So... send him to the G-League? Because, unless we're tanking away one of Dame's few remaining years (or Simons, Hart, Payton and probably also Johnson get injuries), he's not going to get minutes for the Blazers.

How much PT Sharpe gets is up to him. Play like that in the minutes he gets, will surely equate to more each game, and a permanent role. Hopefully he brings it in Sundays game as well against some very nice talent.

I see no reason why Sharpe can't spend some time in the G league to get big minutes and work on his game. It is a long season, he can play in both leagues.

I am not convinced Walker is quick enough to play against most SFs. I still see him as a spread 4, and Watford also looked pretty good there so I think Walker will have to wait until there is an injury. He can play in the G league as well.

Absolutely he CAN, but it would have to be with a team where he won't be a high priority. And he could develop habits that our coaching staff doesn't necessarily agree with.

Why we still haven't invested in our own squad is a mystery to me. Only signs point to Jody cheaping out again like they seem to be about the tax this year.

I think it's both Sharpe and Johnson that are going to need minutes so they can develop.
The only way to get them minutes is to ship out Hart, Winslow, maybe even Little.

So...send out Hart/Winslow/Little for Draymond.

Line up then looks like:
Lillard/Payton II/Williams
Simons/Sharpe
Grant/Johnson/Walker
Green/Watford/Brown
Nurkic/Eubanks/Sarr

I was listening to NBA radio yesterday and the topic was Draymond. Eddie Johnson was essentially laughing at people who think what Green does for GS would translate to other teams if he was traded. His argument was compelling.

g league is pointless, if you ever watched it, youd know it

you cannot improve your game in g league

i dont know whats chauncey gonna do, i guess hell go with 10 man rotation if keon/sharpe are ready for some minutes

otherwise it will be 9 man rotation

I'm sure you will find him 15-20mpg, which for a 19-year old seems like plenty.

You need to find a way to get him some minutes. Should be able to pull off about 12 a game.

I look at it this way: What we want to do it win a championship, so we need to find a way to become contenders. Right now one path towards that could be Sharpe having a rapid growth to star status.
Clearly we're not going all the way this year so is there really a reason we can't find 12 minutes a game to give to our highest pick since Dame and try to quicken his developpement ?

It's not like the other options at the back-up 3 are THAT GOOD that we can't make a small space for him in our lineup, especially if Nas doesn't show more than he has so far in preseason.

no-one plays defense in the g league, theyre just chucking shots, its freeway to the rim, theres no any game plan, so you could learn a couple of things

it looks to me that keon is close to being part of the roation, but if sharpe can outplay him during the season, hell get in

dame/payton
simons/keon
little/hart
grant/winslow
nurk/eubanks/watford

maybe watford could be in the rotation with eubanks, being back up for grant, which means keon wouldnt get in the roation, it depends on how chauncey views eubanks, keon & watford

9 man roation would be tough, its a long season, but damn, western conference has never been better, theres 10 legit playoff teams

Has Keon's trade value risen enough? He is doing a LOT better but I just don't see how he fits in this team long-term unless other guys are moved.

Where?

Dame (33) / Simons (15)
Simons (18) / Payton (25)
Winslow (10)/ Hart (25)/ Little (13)
Grant (33)/ Little (12)/ Watford (3)
Nurk (27)/ Watford (13)/ Winslow (8)

Dame - 33
Simons - 33
Grant - 33
Hart - 25
Payton - 25
Little - 25
Winslow - 18
Watford - 16

Whose minutes will Shaedon eat into to get to 15-20 mpg? Hell, what about getting Keon 10 mpg? It's near impossible with the clutter we have at 2/3. Spending our full MLE and hard capping ourselves for Payton while not addressing our C situation was dumb at the time-- seems dumber now when we realize that Shaedon needs developmental minutes.

My thought is that after this year they will have to decide between Keon and GP2, unless they can't resign Hart.

G-league is good for getting a few guys their next contract.

It would be good to have our own team...

I think we’ll struggle early in the season and Billups will kick the tires and mix things up leading to more PT for the young guy.

5 each from Hart, Little, and Payton.

And if history is any indicator Little may well get injured and free up 25 mpg.

Trade Hart and Nas then he gets PT
I would bet anything that if our guys are all healthy this year, Hart gets moved at the deadline. He's gonna be a FA and I think has trade value. And if Shaedon is ready for legit PT while we are in playoff contention, we might want to use Hart to recoup a pick because we will owe ours to CHI.

Nah. He needs minutes in the NBA against real competition. It helps him and it tells the team if he is that great of a talent that he can produce after the all-star game or if it is going to go longer and he needs to spend some time at the G-league after the all-star game. This kid has a natural physical gift. You need to figure out if he is ready to contribute soon or if it is a year or two in the future. Only one way to figure that out, in real games against real competition.

he has no value, except being a filler, but no-one will trade for him alone

hes 20 yo, two more years on rookie contract, keep him and see if he can develop into legit nba player

if he and sharpe break out, along with simons and aging dame, its a good problem to have

His offense obviously came around against a bad team…but I think he can play purely because he’s pretty good in defense

Totally agree. Sharpe is not a fringe player. He is a now player.
