Apple is starting to turn into "BIG BROTHER" if they aren't there already.

HomeKit source code was given out "freely" at the last expo. They are allowing programmers to make products to automate their life. Controlling sprinkler, alarm, television, lighting, heating, etc. Apple will be able to control this with the AppleTV or phone. Get ready for the next innovation of automation in an all-in-one application.

Apple released its first update for iOS 8 today, and users on Twitter are reporting issues spawning from the update, such as an unresponsive Touch ID and broken cellular reception.

The iOS 8.0.1 update was released with the intention of fixing several bugs and other issues from iOS 8. The update includes the following changes:

*Fixes a bug that prevented HealthKit apps from being available on the App Store

*Prevents third-party keyboards from becoming deselected when users enter their passcode

*Fixes an issue that prevented some apps' access to the Photo Library

*Improved reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

*Fixes issues that caused unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages

*Fixes issues that caused unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages

*Fixes an issue where ringtones sometimes weren't restored from iCloud backups

*Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and video from Safari

I checked out the phones at the apple store today. 6 plus is pretty cool, fits in my pocket fine. The bending shit is a killer for me though (along with the non-removable battery). Won't use a case, if its that big I don't want to make it any thicker.

Lmao at "bendgate"!

It’s time to chill out over ‘bendgate’ and buy Apple

Analyst: ‘bendgate’ is a media blitz.
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — What a week for Apple. The Cupertino tech giant was clobbered with PR-hit after PR-hit, fueled by a viral YouTube video that appears to show the physical bending of an iPhone 6 Plus.

Social media went nuts. Twitter TWTR, +1.55% and YouTube GOOG, +0.19% users, people on Facebook FB, +1.33% and the mainstream media, all cried foul. A candy bar company even used “bendgate” to its marketing advantage.

But in retrospect, it seems the critics might have gotten a little too bent out of shape.

It’s time to chill out about this whole bending phones thing. Apple AAPL, +1.84% on Thursday said it had received only nine complaints related to the issue. That’s nine out of more than 10 million sold in the first weekend.

“Let’s get real!” Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White said Friday in a note to clients, where he reiterated his buy rating on the stock and a price target of $123.

Shares of Apple were up 1.6% to $99.44 in recent trade.

“We believe the concern around an average person bending an iPhone 6 Plus with typical everyday use is irrational,” he said. In his opinion, the last few days have been nothing but a “media blitz.”

“After taking both new iPhones for a spin at Apple’s Special Event, and again this week in Hong Kong, concerns with bending the iPhones never crossed our mind as both felt very durable,” White said.

He’s not alone in that sentiment. In fact, a number of Apple fans on Reddit have started to pick apart the YouTube video submitted by Canadian user Lewis Hilsenteger, who runs a channel called Unbox Therapy with 1.4 million subscribers. The iPhone video has grossed some 33.4 million views since Sept. 23.

One Reddit user, akrosdabay, points to discrepancies in the timing of the video, with the clock on the iPhone 6 Plus reading 2:26 p.m. at the time of the bending, but reading an earlier 1:58 p.m. at a later point in the video after the bending was already supposed to have taken place.

“A media blitz has ensued.”

“I think you’re right about him pre-bending the phone at its weak point around the volume buttons,” said another Reddit user, tittywagon, agreeing. “The hoodie, glasses, backwards hat. The guy is a side-show idiot who blew it way out of proportion for youtube views.”

MarketWatch reached out to both Apple and Hilsenteger. Neither immediately responded.

If anything, this signals a buying opportunity, Cantor Fitzgerald told clients on Friday, particularly as Apple ramps up production of the phones (Tim Cook earlier this week said the company would have sold more had there been enough supply). The iPhone 6 is also expected to soon launch in China where, Cantor notes, there is “insatiable demand.”

In Madrid, there certainly wasn’t concern over the bending drama early on Friday. A line in Apple’s new flagship store in the capital was around 50 deep at 7 a.m.

Among those waiting in line was Javier Lasso, a 21-year old musician, who told MarketWatch that he buys a new Apple phone every time a new one is released, and he wasn’t about to stop now.

“Every time there is a new Apple phone that comes out, there is some talk about ‘this or that is wrong,’” he said. Lasso says he is not deterred this time either and will buy the allegedly bendy device.

My wife's iphone 6, upgraded to ios 8.02, intermittently drops connection to WiFi and the touch ID only works about half of the time. Otherwise, she loves it.

8.02 is working fine for me.

I take this back. I'm still having issues with safari loading very slow when I'm on LTE/4G. It also seems slower than it should be on WiFi. This is one of the issues that was supposed to be fixed.

Just don't get the HTC One!

Below are its findings for the six smartphones that it tested. The HTC One (M8) was deformed and came apart at the lowest stress levels followed by the iPhone 6 and then 6 Plus.

Apple Consumer Reports iPhone stress test

Overall it looks to be good news for Apple as at least one well respected independent organization has shown that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus hold up well enough compared to other smartphones. However both of the new iPhones broke down at much lower stress levels than the iPhone 5.

Going forward I don’t think you will be finding new iPhones to get much thinner and as I’ve written before I’d trade off some thickness to get a larger battery. Hopefully for Apple the controversy will go away and it looks like there should be minimal if any financial impact compared to what it could have been if third party tests and real world use show that the new iPhones don’t bend too much.

cot damn. the fuck is working at Apple.

http://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/29/reset-all-settings-icloud-drive-bug/

It appears that there may be a serious bug with the "Reset All Settings" option in iOS 8, causing users who activate the feature to lose all of their iWork documents stored in iCloud Drive. According to multiple posters on the MacRumors forums, using the "Reset All Settings" option under General --> Reset has caused documents to be permanently deleted from iCloud Drive.

resetallsettings
Because iOS 8 was so sluggish on my iPad 3 I reset all settings (No data or media will be deleted) and sped it up BUT deleted my iWork data! Then promptly synced and deleted it in iCloud.I have public beta of Yosemite so can't roll back via time machine. I have no pre iOS 8 backups in iTunes or iCloud to revert to (well iCloud device backups don't contain cloud documents and I should have iOS 7 backups in iTunes but can't find any. iCloud has no trash like dropbox. They seem gone forever.
The "Reset All Settings" option explicitly says that "No data or media will be deleted," and it is meant to reset all user preferences to the default out-of-the-box settings. That the option is deleting iCloud Drive documents appears to be a serious bug, though it may be limited to Apple's own iWork apps like Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. One user had all of his iWork documents wiped by using "Reset All Settings," while other app information remained in iCloud.

In our own testing, using "Reset All Settings" deleted all iWork documents stored in iCloud Drive on the iPhone and on iCloud.com. After allowing time for syncing to a Mac running OS X Yosemite, all of the documents disappeared from that machine as well. Preview and TextEdit documents, which cannot be accessed on the iPhone, remained untouched on the Mac.

There appears to be no simple way to recover iCloud Drive documents that have been erased by "Reset All Settings" in Yosemite, and several people who have been affected by the bug are now in contact with Apple support in an effort to retrieve their documents. A Mavericks user was, however, able to recover his files from a backup folder, and OS X Yosemite users may also have luck with recovering files via Time Machine.

One user said that Apple was waiting on engineers to investigate the issue, while another said his account had been placed in troubleshooting mode to attempt to recover the data.

Introduced with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, iCloud Drive is Apple's answer to cloud-based storage services like Dropbox. iCloud Drive allows users to store a variety of documents like spreadsheets, PDFs, images, and more, accessing them on any device. Currently OS X Mavericks users can access iCloud Drive documents via iCloud.com, but iCloud Drive will be fully functional in October, after OS X Yosemite is released.

Users who have iCloud Drive enabled may want to refrain from using the "Reset All Settings" option on their devices for the time being, in order to avoid accidentally erasing important documents stored in iCloud Drive.

No kidding. Ever since how shitty their mobile me crap was, I've never trusted their cloud offerings. Dropbox all day bruh.

The thing is, its way easier to sync documents on an ipad using iCloud. oh well, most of the stuff I keep in there are drafts. My stuff is still there.

Ritchie did make a number of important contributions but that graphic isn't very realistic.

To make the comparison more direct, who is more important, Jobs or Wozniak?
