What veteran Center can we bring that protects the rim?

I have doubts about that but you may be right..we'll see. Smart is a good pickup but I don't think they are going to be deep ..

The Grizzlies are 33-17 without Ja Morant in the last couple of years, they are deep and have been for a while. They just gave Tillman the RFA offer, so basically they have a stop-gap in Smart to replace Ja (might actually make their defense better), they need to replace Dillon Brooks which is not going to be a huge issue (I do not think he is that big of a contributor anyway, he was very inefficient and the Griz agreed, and Smart can also take on the guard the best opponent many nights).

Yeah, I don't think the Griz are going anywhere near a tank.

Hell no. They had Brandon Clarke and Steven Adams out and still earned the 2nd seed (for the second season in a row).
Memphis is a team built to win in the regular season.

Taj Gibson is like 37 years old. He isn't going to stabilize anyone's defense.
Unless you are defending the line in Vegas and can get the Blazers to sub him in when we are blowing someone out that Vegas had us beating by 5 points.

Poetl? he'll likely get 15-20 ml from Toronto and we have in reality no realistic avenues to acquire hum, especially so in dealing with TOR who values all their players as a level above!
Yeah, Masai's neck and neck with Daryl Morey for the most absurd over valuation of their own players. In Morey's case he extends that to players he obtained previously (Harden overpay).

Also need someone taller than 6'8" for the weeks or months of games Nurk has always missed with injury. Eubanks is fine as a 12th man or sometimes backup. But he shouldn't be an every game backup or sometimes starter.

Thats why I've thrown out the Meyers Leonard name for the minimum - no he's not a great backup, but he's at least a big body and has a change of pace skill with his shooting.
Just don't mic him up during Hanukah.

Come on, that's clearly sideshow bob wanting to go to his old stomping grounds in Springfield, OR.

To address the thread and not just joke, I'd love to see us try and pry Jalen Duren from Detroit. Probably would need a 3rd team involved.

He's not a rim protector, but he'd be an improvement over Eubanks: Mason Plumlee. The Clippers might not be willing to pay him ~$8m a year as a backup center, whereas Portland might be. We clearly need size and free agency is probably the best way to add depth.

Mason will turn 34 during next season and his game was very reliant on athleticism. He was never big enough to really bang with centers and not skilled enough to go on the perimeter. I'm fine giving him a vet minimum deal if we're trying to win with Dame but otherwise I'd go with someone younger.
I don't care if we're winning with Dame or not. Backup center is a year-by-year position, not something to waste a lot of money on. Unless the backup is someone like Jalen Duren.

Block some shots. Get some rebounds. Stay out of the way of the scorers.

Yes, that actually sounds just about perfect.
Plumlee might not have the height of Przybilla, but he runs the court more than Przybilla. Great for the 2nd unit.
Plumlee doesn't play like someone who's "old." And he can really rebound the ball. And make great passes.
In this playoff game below, he had 20 points and 10 rebounds (including 7 offensive rebounds) in only 24 minutes.
He makes Ayton look like the 33-year-old.
Some of the highlights from this game are shocking (to me). I didn't know Plumlee could dribble that well.

This proves how difficult defensive stats are to capture more than it proves Eubanks is a better defender than Nurk.

and I did not say Eubanks is a better defender. I said he had better rim protection numbers than Nurkic

Sold. I’m going to tell Joe to sign him NOW.

Call me crazy but I think Dario Saric would fit in very nicely in Portland.

Blazers should bring in Meyers Leonard for training camp. See what he looks like and give him a chance to earn a roster spot.

Don't forget we still have both Watford and Winslow, our defense at PF is Solid. Also Grant is not a bad defender either.
Our center rotation tough is currently what? Nurkic and Eubanks? One is too fat to get of the floor and one is constantly flying around, getting a few blocks but giving us a dismal defensive presence.
Someone like Taj Gibson at Center would stabilize our entire defense while giving us good interior defense alongside Watford/winslow
The fuck are you talking about?

Why in the world would Detroit give up their best big?

What could we possibly offer?

also a stellar passer and has chemistry with Dame
