I was watching CNN and at first I thought it was just a horrible accident (there was no video footage of the first plane crash that day), but then I saw the second plane crash live on tv and I knew that it was planned. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Man, most of you get too much of your information from what the television is showing you. lol

I was in a 6th grade and I had just woken up and my mom was on the phone with my grandma walking around, talking and everything. I asked what happened and my mom said we were attacked by terrorists, I had no idea what the hell that meant but I turned on the TV and saw what had happened (this was probably around 7-8 AM PST so 10-11 EST). Struck me immediately because the previous summer my dad took me to New York/New Jersey where he grew up and we went to the top of one of the towers but it wasn't until a few weeks later that I comprehended the tragedy that so many lives were lost, not just a couple of huge buildings. I've still got some pictures of me and my sister on top of the building dated 08/00.

I went to school and they tried to treat the day like a normal school day. I assume the teachers were told not to mention it but it was just so akward trying to learn after it just happened. One of my teachers had the TV on during breaks and recess and alot of kids went home. Always kind of pissed me off and disgusted me that they didn't even make an announcement about it or anything and played it off like it didn't happen.

Something really scary for me was, my dad works for the government. At the time, we were living right outside of DC. His office was across the street from the Pentagon. At the time though, my dad was in NYC for work.

My uncle's office had a window that looked exactly at the Pentagon, he saw the plane and the explosion. Obviously with my dad working across from the Pentagon, we had a lot of family friends in that general area. It was kind of scary not knowing how they were. It ended up that my uncle went over to the Pentagon and helped them over there.

As for my dad, He left for NYC Sunday Sept. 9th. He was supposed to stay at the hotel in the WTC or around it, I'm not sure, I believe it was in the trade center. At the last minute, their plans changed, and they got transferred to a hotel closer to the NYC DEA office. They ended up being about 5 minutes from the TC instead of right underneath it.

I had so much family in that city too, just scary. It's still hard to believe that they haven't even started the memorial. I'm all for the Freedom Tower. I love it, I love the idea, but in a way, I think it's giving terrorist another opportunity.
