OT Whatever happened to all the threads whining about firing Stotts?

Sure, but this is a thread about the coach, and there are people who think us beating up on weak opponents is now magically making everything okay again.

I hear what you're saying, but Stotts is brought up in MANY threads not releated to coaching, and I think it's a valid to point out that someone doesn't feel coaching is the main issue in a coaching thread and providing an alternative to what the real issue is (even if it's not about the thread title).

I can't speak for anyone who thinks things are now "magically" ok agian. I don't even know what "ok" means. Remember, some people are fine rooting for a playoff contending team each year with no real shot to win a title. To your earlier point, that opinion should be acceptable, and not warrant a personal attack either. We all have our own priorities. Heated basketball debate should be fair game. Personal attacks, rating someones fandom, etc. shouldn't be.

I honestly try to not engage you personally but in this case...you are lumping me into your "blind" camp....not that there's anything wrong with being blind by the way.....I read a post of yours that said you weren't interested in the Blazers with Stotts coaching anymore....what happened to that guy? I will support this coach and hope he sticks around for reasons I've said multiple times....nobody is making anybody else suffer through my enjoyment though...choices.....

I have a very strong, gut feeling that the overall belief in here about Stotts isn’t felt within the walls of the blazer offices. I really think Stotts’ seat was VERY hot about two weeks ago. I don’t think the sentiment about Carmelo is felt the same way either. In fact, same with a bunch of guys. They seem pretty tight right now and happy. If they get swept or only win one game maybe that all changes.

Not only do I agree with this, but all the casual Blazer fans I know are coming to me asking why they're even considering firing Stotts. To them, I list all the reasons why it's got to this point and the casuals think I'm anti-Stotts.

The pro fire-Stotts crowd is a niche. Doesn't make them right or wrong, but I certainly don't think they're in the majorit; more like an internet echo-chamber.

Again, its a win win. We lose in the first or second round we lose the coach and hopefully the GM. We make it to the finals its a win (conference finals ain't good enough, though it'll keep stotts here, unfortunately).

This winning streak means nothing if we don't make noise in the playoffs. They haven't looked great the last two games. Lots of work to be done, and I have 0 faith stotts will do anything about it. So its on the players to win the games in spite of him.

Scapegoat addicts have been posting here since long before Stotts was hired....seemingly desperate to justify the Stotts hate now that Meyers is gone. Stotts is more willing to put the 3rd string in and get some burn than worry about the score in a win....that's what builds trust and develops rookies. I'm a loyal fan of Stotts and what he's brought to Portland. Winning a bunch of games in a row confuses the trolls who want a revolving door franchise...some folks are still fuming about losing to the Pelicans or Grizz after Wes got hurt.....doesn't mean shit to the roster we're putting on the court right now at least to me.....this is not the same team that's been to the playoffs together....I think it's a good playoff roster and all we need is consistent execution to beat the titans of the west. I"m here to cheer. Soccer mom's never cheer...they just yell at the coach

I'm enjoying the team AND being realistic. It's freaking great. Stotts is an awful coach that'll never lead us to championship and we only win in spite of him, but I'm enjoying the team!

I've always been a fan of Stotts approach to coaching...and I am enjoying praising the team as they build chemistry and start to click this season....I don't read editorials by sports personalities much at all and don't watch sports television so I think we differ on what sports journalism is as compared to sports opinion based editorials.. I've criticized plenty of coaches and players over the years....at this point I just find things to enjoy in Blazer basketball and brush off losses or bad games for what they are....part of the game. What I'm happy about is front office stability and the Blazers staying in Oregon....the more negativity put out there the less attractive Portland will be as a basketball destination. We just started getting interest from free agents after years of zero interest....I'm optimistic for what I believe are healty reasons....there's a reason I've been happily married for 32 years ...it takes practice

I think there's a gigantic difference between being "blindly faithful to Stotts" and not thinking he's the main problem and/or that getting rid of him will make a significant difference.

My mind is blown by the people who's majority focus is on a coach and not the guy responsible for creating the roster AND retaining the coach.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but to me, this is the crux of the issue.

If you think that the players on our roster collectively represent the 2nd worst defensive talent in the history of the league, then absolutely, fire Olshey, and trade everyone.

If, like me, you think that we have top 10 defensive talent on the team, then Olshey is the wrong place to look because he did his job. One should be scrutinizing the coach. When some of us do that, we see A PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR, A PATTERN OF UNDERPERFORMING DEFENSE. And you know what? Jody Allen sees it too. Before this year, I was a Stotts supported, now I'm not.

That doesn't mean I don't like the guy, I absolutely do. I just don't think he should be coaching my beloved Blazers. That's OK, I don't think many people on the planet, including everyone reading this, should be coaching the Blazers.
