The wife and I were at an establishment the other night off of 10th and Burnside and go figure, it was a perfect evening with no issues. I think hanging outside a place on 3rd and Burnside has been a bad idea for over 60 years to be honest.

When it wad the Paris Theatre (early 2000s) I went to a lot of shows there on the corner of 2nd and Burnside. Never really any issues and ash st saloon was a pretty dope spot.

Now? Lol.

I just got back from Manhattan. Not nearly as many homeless there as here.

It's almost like it doesn't matter where you are, blue or red, people are going through hard times whether their own doing or under their control or not.

Now, back to on topic.

Well luckily you live in the utopian society that is Beaverton. Man are you lucky to wake up to THAT everyday.

There is. The difference is they confine their homeless to certain areas and if they leave they take them back to those areas. Boston is the same way.

I agree. Still less homeless people in Manhattan than Portland though.

I park on 11th and just south of burnside half a block. Yes, two blocks down is shake shack which had a crackhead sitting at a bench in the section where the road is now closed for seating. And on 11th where i parked is the gutted car, now bbq, i mentioned.
To be down there and not see these things and say its all hunky dory is either intentionally blinding oneself to reality or is, in their own self, not realizing one is not living in reality. I walked from 3rd to 11th four times. Most building entries had a homeless sleeping and they looked like addicts.

I am sure there are pockets/areas of good and bad. Maybe five blocks north its not that way. But Burnside is a main throughway. It did not look good at all friday night anywhere from 3rd to 405.

Ditto.
Berbatis is no longer as well. Paris is all boarded up aNd fenced off Nd looks like it was a one time crackhead hangout. Which is sad because only a few years before the pandemic, they completely remodeled the interior and it was really nice for the first time in who knows… ever?

Thats it? Comparing the size thats nothing compared to Portland….

According to Portland.gov, around 4,000people sleep on the streets, in cars, or in shelters in Portland on any given night. However, the number of people experiencing homelessness in Portland has increased significantly in recent years:

  • 2015: The number of people experiencing homelessness in Portland was 1,887
  • 2023: The number of people experiencing homelessness in Portland was 6,297, a 65% increase from 2015
  • January 2024: The number of people experiencing homelessness in Multnomah County was over 11,000, a nearly triple increase from 2015
In response to the growing homelessness crisis, Portland has implemented a number of initiatives, including:

  • Temporary Alternative Shelter Sites
These sites provide a safe place for people to connect with services like housing, mental health support, and substance use disorder treatment
  • Safe Sleep Policy
This policy allows people to camp on a city sidewalk or city right of way overnight from 9 PM until 7 AM
Portland and Multnomah County have also set a goal of halving unsheltered homelessness by 2026.

It was an official report in response to a claim that there was less homelessness in Manhattan than Portland.

What you can see is homelessness is increasing in Manhattan while it has been decreasing or at least leveling off in Portland.

From my perspective downtown has improved a lot. Lloyd district has gotten worse.

No. What i see is you clearly didn't read a thing i posted….or you completely ignored it….

It may very well have. This was the first time id been out at night in four or five years( excluding blazer games)
Im just saying i was literally right where HCP said it was all good and it was not all good. At all.
Again, it may have been exclusive to burnside, but its still a main artery

Love Dantes! SINferno is one of the great Portland experiences. But Burnside is Burnside. It's always been a place of homeless and "bums." That's just part of the Dantes experience.

What you posted had next to nothing to do with what I posted. So I just reiterated what I posted.

I'm not interested in a debate over anything else that you were posting about in this thread.

This is why having a discussion with you is futile. You said homeless in portland went down. I posted stats showing they went up.
But you claim it had nothing to do with your post.

Did you try the Soylent Green while you were there?

The difference is, they recycle.

Yeah Lloyd district has fallen way off.

From about 3rd and Burnside to about 8th and Burnside heading either way isn't good until pearl district to the north and the courthouse to the south (that courthouse is nice af now).

Lloyd district looks like 20 years ago never existed. I never felt unsafe in the Lloyd district until now.

I've been to the pearl and to Keller and all points in between and Lloyd feels worse.

I've also delivered for Amazon in both areas (so my chances of getting robbed went way up) and downtown I felt fine, Lloyd my head was on a swivel.

There is more to New York City than just Manhattan.
Point is that they are seeing increased homelessness as well. They also have much harsher winters, so it's not as safe of a place to be homeless as Portland.

Daaaammmmnnnn.........The HCP and I make simple factual statements about how much the atmosphere in downtown Portland has improved and we get a whole discussion about how it all still sucks and an east coast city gets dragged into the unnecessary discussion. John and I were just enjoying some relatively good news for a change and the Debbie Downers have to rain on the parade......only on SC2......

Saw this this morning, seemed to fit in to this discussion:

Suburbanites are fearful creatures. We should start making fun of them again rather than try to make a city conform to their skewed view of propriety. Fuck, if you could handle the city you’d live in the city. There’s a shake shack in Beaverton; go there if you want a burger.

ihh there isnt a Dantes or roseland or crustal ballroom there

What a weird mindset that is. If you don't like it, fuck off and go back to the suburbs.

Sorry some of you can't handle having reality reminders that counter this false picture you are painting.
Truth hurts i guess.

lol.
